Management Principles developed by Henri Fayol:
DIVISION OF WORK: Work should be divided among individuals and groups to ensure that effort and attention are focused on special portions of the task. Fayol presented work specialization as the best way to use the human resources of the organization.
AUTHORITY: The concepts of Authority and responsibility are closely related. Authority was defined by Fayol as the right to give orders and the power to exact obedience. Responsibility involves being accountable, and is therefore naturally associated with authority. Whoever assumes authority also assumes responsibility.
DISCIPLINE: A successful organization requires the common effort of workers. Penalties should be applied judiciously to encourage this common effort.
UNITY OF COMMAND: Workers should receive orders from only one manager.
UNITY OF DIRECTION: The entire organization should be moving towards a common objective in a common direction.
SUBORDINATION OF INDIVIDUAL INTERESTS TO THE GENERAL INTERESTS: The interests of one person should not take priority over the interests of the organization as a whole.

...Henri Fayol: Contributions to the classical stream of Management Theory Present management practices and theories have evolved from classical management theory created by organisation pioneers, and one such influential pioneer was Henri Fayol. Henri began his career as an engineer in a large French mine and eventually succeeded to become the director, here he realised the lack of resources available to managers for developing management practices. Fayol’s did not believe in the old ideas of an individual born to rule, he believed that an employee needs to be motivated and among many other things, money is an important variable in motivation. In his striving to change this circumstance he suggested “some generalized teaching of management” to be a main part of every curriculum at places of higher education and even beginning in “primary schools” . It is a lot easier to think which of the fourteen management principles that Deming recommends would work rather than those that might not work. All the management principles make a lot of sense and together become an outstanding tool for any business to become successful. It is very hard to see where one or some of the fourteen management principles and I came up with two of them that I found a little questionable, as far as working in all situations and in all types of businesses. I disagree partially with Deming’s principle #11 (Eliminate Arbitrary Quotas.) It would probably not work very well in a low-pay environment where quality standards are not very high. For example getting a Little Caesars employee motivated about the quality of their pizzas would be extremely hard—Little Caesars employees know that their customers are looking for an inexpensive pizza and are not going to demand a high quality pizza; instead, management depends on that employee to perform pre-set duties and crank out as many pizzas as possible for as little pay as possible. And that would tie to Deming’s principle #13 (Encourage lifelong education) not working in that scenario as well.
