5-Factor Personality Model
5- Factor Personality model is a five trait dimension. It includes Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Neuroticism and Openness. Highly extraversion people are energetic and sociable and low extraversion people are reserved and quiet. Agreeableness is tendency to be accepting, conforming and trusting. Low scorer tends to less corporative Conscientiousness means to be thorough, organized and controlled. A person who scores high on conscientiousness tends to me dependable and a person who scores low tends to more likely distracted. Neurotic individuals are anxious, insecure and hostile. People with high neuroticism tends to be emotionally distressed versus relaxed. Last trait is openness. This trait reflects open-mindedness in culture. High scorer tends to be imaginative, creative and low scorer tends to be down to earth and more practical in nature.
I have scored average in all fields. The test provides a score which determines where you place among other people who have completed the test as well. I do not find the test to be accurate. The result is vague and not detailed. This test may not help the companies during hiring selection. The result does not have any underlying cause behind them. The result depends on how many test takers were involved and. The test does not allow individual to determine their exact traits unlike other personality tests. We are assumed to have all five traits. Moreover, Myer-Briggs is considered most popular and regularly personality test used by varied range of companies. In comparison to 5-Factor Personality test, Myer-Briggs entails precisely if a person is extrovert or introvert. The assessment said that, ”people with high scores are described as adventurous, imaginative, and variety-loving (Manning 311).” I scored 34 out of 35 in this area, and it is one of the three areas that do well with leadership. It is a short and fast assessment. The traits it looks at are extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability and openness to experience. I took the test and agreed with my results. That was, until I read the books interpretation. My results were fairly accurate. I am very split down the middle with experiencing new things. I will try everything once, but I won’t seek out new experiences. Once they come to me, I give them a shot. Sometimes I can be disorganized and do things somewhat haphazardly. A lot of times I will go out of my way to avoid people. I interact with people at work constantly and it drains me. In my personal life I compensate by avoiding social situations. I am not forgiving to a point of ignorance, but I am forgiving and understand things happen. I don’t hold a grudge or get irritable either. Being anxious is in my nature and I tend to worry about things I do. I am way harder on myself than I am anyone else. My highest scores were in agreeableness, and openness to experiences. According to my text book people who score high in the agreeableness category tend to be “sociable and easy to get along with, and those who score high under openness to experiences are intellectually curious, and untraditional” (Lilienfeld, 2011). My lowest scores were in emotional stability and extraversion, scoring low in these categories means that I am likely to be anxious, irritated, and shy. I believe that the results are consistent with how I see myself. I have come to accept that I am a sensitive person who feels shy and closed off when trying to integrate with a new group, especially big groups. Although I am shy in big groups I do well in dyads, I feel less anxious in small groups, and many people have said that they enjoy confiding in me because they find me easy to talk to. In a recent interview to mark thirty years of the theoretical framework, Porter reaffirmed his faith in the model, quoting examples from the airline and steel industries. The model along with the others that Porter has developed, such as the value chain, strategic groups and national competitive advantage, continue to influence strategic thinking in profound ways. And yet, one cannot help observing that perhaps the time has come to re-examine these models in the light of empirical evidence. This paper attempts to argue that the usefulness of the five-force model is limited in emerging economies as compared to mature markets. A longitudinal study of the IT Enabled Services Industry in India demonstrates that with low entry barriers, a high degree of competition (industry rivalry), bargaining power of buyers (Fortune 100 companies), bargaining power of suppliers (large manufacturers of hardware who force technological up gradation at regular intervals), and the absence of clear differentiators (or close substitutes being offered), the industry should have been very unattractive according to the five-force model.
