Abortion-The Wrong Choice Renee Pina University of Phoenix COMM/215 December 3, 2011

Abortion-The Wrong Choice Plain and simple, abortion is murder. I strongly oppose abortion. God creates life and only God has the right to take life. Pro-Lifers want an amendment to the US Constitution that will give equal protection under the law to all living humans from time of their conception to the time of their natural death, and I fully agree that American needs that amendment. However, I question what kind of society do we live in that we have to ask for that kind of protection to begin with? I do not believe that the government should fund abortions. I do not believe that the government should fund Planned Parenthood, which is the largest abortion clinic in America. I believe that the violence inside and outside abortion clinics in America is wrong. Abortion is legal in the United States. In 1963, the Supreme Court decided in Roe vs. Wade that a woman can have an abortion in the first six weeks of pregnancy. Almost half of all pregnancies are unplanned and half of those half end up as abortions. The abortion debate has been ongoing for decades in America. Those that oppose abortion stand firm in their belief that they are right. Those that are pro-choice believe that a woman has a right to decide what is best for her. There is very little middle ground when it comes to the debate of abortion. From the moment of conception the embryo is a person. According to Dr. Alfred M. Bongioanni, professor of pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania, “Human life begins at the time of conception. I submit that human life is present throughout the entire sequence, from conception to adulthood, and that any interruption at any point throughout this time…...

Abortion Right or Wrong

...Jason isam Abortion: Right or Wrong As I see it, there are two sides to the argument of abortion, and I stand pro-choice. Abortion must be the legal right for all women. This doesn't mean in any way I condone an abortion free-for-all. For example, all those women who are trying to get rid of “mistakes” every couple of months because they choose to do nothing to prevent the pregnancy in the first place. Women must have the right to terminate pregnancies under certain circumstances. For example, if a woman has a medical condition, and carrying a child to full term will kill her, it is better to terminate that child as early as possible, to save the mother so she may live her life. And it’s likely if her condition is serious enough to threaten her life, the baby will not survive anyway. Under a circumstance like this, no one can argue two lives lost are better than one, just because the person may believe abortion to be wrong. A teenage girl, only fourteen-years-old, is walking home from school one day. She gets attacked, dragged into some bushes or a car and raped. A few weeks later she learns she is pregnant. At this point, the girl is faced with three choices. She can choose to keep the baby, becoming a mother before most people decide what they want to do after high school. Not only that, she becomes the mother of a child who came from a horrific and terrifying situation. Choice two is to carry the child to full term, and then put it up for adoption. On......

Abortion: It's Your Choice

...Abortion: It’s Your Choice Abortion is a controversial topic around the world. There are two groups when talked about when discussing this topic: pro-life and pro-choice. People believing in pro-life want to make abortion illegal. They believe it is not only wrong, but is cruel to kill an unborn child. It also can be harmful to the mother. Dorothy Shaw, president-elect of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) is quoted in the article “Unsafe Abortions Kill Thousands of Women, Experts Say” by Kuala Lumpar calming “Unsafe abortion is a serious public health problem for women, accounting for 13 percent of all maternal deaths globally each year (1).” Kuala Lumpar of the Agence France Presse [a French newspaper] goes on to state “Some 70,000 women worldwide die from unsafe abortions each year while many more suffer serious injuries, especially in poor countries…(1)” These are both valid points; but what if a woman is raped and becomes pregnant, if there is a fatal problem with the unborn child, or if the mother becomes fatally ill? If abortions became illegal families would be left with nothing but heartache and sorrow for something that can ultimately be fixed. Women of rape cases have every right to an abortion if they choose. Why should they have to keep a baby that was made with a man that they never wanted to sleep with in the first place? According to Bioethicist Andrew Varga, “It is also said that a pregnancy caused by rape or incest is......

Abortion: It Should Be a Choice

...ABORTION: It should be a choice Imagine a teenage girl who has made one of the biggest mistakes in her life, getting pregnant. Her family is not stable enough to afford a baby and she cannot afford one herself, but yet cannot abort the baby because it is against the law. The teenage girl has now given birth to a baby boy. With no help from her family she ends up on living on the street with her baby crying every night of hunger. She struggles for the rest of the child’s childhood and vows to never have a baby again. Now let’s imagine a teenage girl who has made the same mistake but instead was able to get an abortion. With this being one of the most emotion and horrifying events she has experienced yet, she also made a vow; but this teenager’s vow was to always be protected. Many teenagers who become mothers have grim prospects for the future. They are much more likely to leave school; receive poor prenatal care; rely on public assistance to raise a child; develop health problems; or end up divorced from their child’s father. In the Supreme Court case of Roe vs. Wade (1973) women of the United States “have been granted the right to have abortions” it is a strong belief of many people it is a woman’s right to be able to abort an unwanted pregnancy, and no man, organization, or any form of government should take that right away from her. The right to have an abortion is a woman’s right not to have a conceived child. According to the Encyclopedia, an abortion is the loss of a......

Why Abortion Is Wrong

... Name: Glennder Rooplal Topic: Abortion Claim: Abortion is not the best solution. Thesis Statement: Abortion is not the best solution because abortion is murder, it is an unsafe procedure which endangers the lives of women and it disallows for safer options such as adoption. Points It contributes to mass murder It endangers the lives of women It disallows for options such as adoption Introduction The dictionary defines Abortion as: The termination of pregnancy and expulsion of an embryo or of a fetus that is incapable of survival. This simply means, inducing birth to kill the fetus, or baby before it is carried to full term. However, I would define abortion as morally and spiritually wrong. How would you feel if you were denied the right to live? Imagine being held against your will, gagged, and your hands bounded as you are placed in front of a firing squad about to be killed for absolutely no reason. Your right to live depends solely on someone else’s decision, hoping and praying that their decision is one that will be one of moral and ethical consciousness and would allow you your right. This is exactly what abortion entails, denying you your right to live. There are many women who might have gotten pregnant and thought that they were not ready to have a child. For most of them, they turn to abortion and see it as their only way out. I am certain many of these women have not fully understood the consequences behind abortion or does not realise that there are many......

Abortion Is a Woman Choice

...Abortion is a Woman’s Choice CINDY ROSS BCOM/275 20 OCT 2013 DION WILLIAMS Abortion is a Woman’s Choice “Abortion is an absolutely moral choice for any woman wishing to control her body” (McKinley 2002, p. 45). I’m going to argue the fact that abortion should be a woman’s right. No one really knows when life begins. Birth defects are reasons for an abortion some may argue and abortions are safe. Abortions should always be the woman’s choice, because only she knows if she can properly care for a baby. Many people consider abortion to be cruel and unnatural and they argue to ban abortions. There are incidents of rape, incest and birth defects and teen pregnancy that are a reason for a woman not to have a baby. A lot of people feel that abortion is immoral, but is it immoral for people bring a babies in this world out of wedlock? We should look at all the facts when deciding to bring a child into the world. Rape, Teen Pregnancy and Birth Defects The embryo or fetus is not considered human being because it is not able to survive outside the woman’s body. Only when a baby can live independently from its mother’s body can it be granted full human rights. According to "Wikipedia: The Free Encyclopedia" (2013),  “The use of the term "fetus" generally implies that a mammalian embryo has developed to the point of being recognizable as belonging to its own species, though the point at which this occurs is subjective.” Without the mother for nutrients, oxygen and......

Abortion; Pro-Life or Pro-Choice

...ABORTION; PRO-LIFE OR PRO-CHOICE Some people believe that abortion is immoral and some people don’t. Morality is an interpersonal conflict over a decision between right and wrong (“Morality”). The question is what reasons people have for their beliefs for and against abortion and whether those reasons are reasonable or not? There are two main groups of people in the case of abortion, pro-life supporters and pro-choice supporters. On the one hand, pro-life supporters, those who think abortion is not right, consider a fertilized human egg a human being from the moment of conception. Therefore, they refer to abortion as murder. On the other hand, the pro-choice supporters, those in favor of abortion, have a different perspective. They believe that a fetus is a human only after birth. The moral difference between these groups encompasses one issue. That is “At what stage is a fertilized egg considered a human being?” According to Peter Singer, there are four general stages that the pro-lifers and the pro-choicers argue about in terms of the standing of a fetus. They are: “birth, viability, quickening and the onset of consciousness” (138). The arguments made by the two groups for and against each of these stages causes the standing of an embryo to be upgraded to that of a child in the long run, as Singer suggests (138). Thus, this paper will examine and analyze the four moral junctures for the status of the fetus -“birth, viability,......

Abortion: the Wrong Choice

...Abortion: The Wrong Choice Tammy Edwards COM/172 September 15, 2010 Sunny Rowland Abortion: The Wrong Choice Nearly half of all pregnancies among American women are unintended, and four in 10 of these are terminated by abortion (Guttmacher Institute, Incidence of Abortion, May 2010). Abortion should be made illegal, because a fetus is a baby, no person has a right to take another's life, and an unborn baby cannot make the decision to live or die. A Fetus is a Baby While some view abortion as something people should be able to choose, others say abortion is a great evil, which is destroying the moral fabric of society Cline (2010). Many of the arguments turn on the status of the fetus: Is a fetus a person? A fetus is indeed a baby. From the moment of conception, a fetus is alive and growing inside the mother’s womb. For this reason, the fetus is a baby and considered a living, breathing being. If this were not so, then why is there a law in the state of California that if a person murders a pregnant female, that person is then charged with two counts of murder instead of just one Simon (2004)? This is true no matter how far along the mother is, one day or nine months. Therefore, this makes the fetus a real person. No Person Has a Right to Take a Life No person has the right to take another person’s life. Many skeptics say that the Bible does not say anything specifically about abortion. That there are no references to women seeking to end pregnancies,......

Abortion Is Always Wrong

...“Abortion is always wrong” Discuss. There are situations that even the actual birth of the baby will cause a serious problem to the mother. If we think about the case of a young teenage girl who get pregnant early, or the situation of a middle school girl who was rape, we would see it's very dangerous to force her to keep the baby. There could be serious repercussions if she does not get the nutrition she needs during her pregnancy or correct pre-natal care. Death rate during birth and chances for a premature or otherwise unhealthy baby is also dramatically higher among young mothers. We have no right to ask her to take a great danger just to give birth to unwanted child. We should respect her decision whether or not she will keep the baby. If the woman doesn't want the baby but she does not have an abortion, and she is forced to give over her body as a life support system to something else, she may resent the child unfairly for the burden it has placed upon her. When the child is being born by a mother who does not want it or at least is not ready to have it, that may lead to child abuse or mistreating, the child can not live in a good environment eventually will become a burden for the society. That's why forcing the woman to give birth to unwanted child not only ruin her life but also create unfortunate future for the child. The right to a legal abortion is one of the few subjects on which nearly everyone has an opinion. Those who think abortion should be readily......

‘a Relativist Approach to the Issues Raised by Abortion Leads to Wrong Moral Choices.’ Discuss.

...‘A relativist approach to the issues raised by abortion leads to wrong moral choices.’ Discuss. One could indeed present the argument that a relativist approach to abortion could lead to the wrong moral choices. For example, in subjective ethical relativism, although one may be able to make a moral choice completely by themselves, there are no clear guidelines in which they have to adhere to. This may lead to corruptible behaviour, as people might delude themselves into thinking certain things that are wrong; are in fact right. Additionally, conventional ethical relativism, which considers society’s values, would most likely disregard the needs of the individual, rendering them to feel pressured by society to follow cultural tradition. This may lead to the wrong moral choice being made. For example if a woman would mentally suffer with the pregnancy, but is not allowed an abortion (such as in Uganda), this would be the wrong moral decision that has resulted from a conventional relativist approach to ethics. On the other hand, a relativist approach could also lead to the correct moral choices. For example, subjectivism allows the individual to make their own choice, which ultimately can be regarded as a good thing. Only the mother herself can really know if she wants an abortion, or if she would not be able to cope with the pregnancy both mentally and physically. A relativist approach to abortion allows for the individuals needs and circumstance to be considered,......

Is Abortion Wrong or Right?

...Rollins  ENG 112-01  September 2, 2015  Is Abortion Wrong or Right?  Abortion is defined as “The removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end the pregnancy” (dictionary.com). However, if only the debate over the abortion issue was as easy as the definition listed above. However, similar to most things in life, a statement or opinion is never right nor wrong, but simply left open for clarification. Those who are against abortion believe that abortion is the murder of innocent human beings who aren’t given a chance at life and the ability to function as a normal individual. However, those who are for abortion believe that it is a women’s right to choose what she does to not only her baby but also to her body and if she decides she is not capable of bringing a child into this world, then she should not be forced to.  Everybody has their own opinion so therefore, abortion should not be right nor should it be wrong.  As expected, there are millions of people who are against abortion. These people are considered pro-life, otherwise known as people who feel that, for no reason at all, should any woman feel the need to abort her child while being pregnant. There are many reasons as to why those who are pro-life do not support abortion. The main reason is that, in her decision to have an abortion, the mother is deciding to kill or murder an innocent human being who hasn’t been given a chance at life. Some may also feel that abortion is a very harmful procedure......

Abortions: Right or Wrong?

...Abortions…. Right or Wrong? Abortions are undoubtedly one of the most controversial topics in our society today. One of the main reasons is because it is often debated as to when a fetus actually becomes a human being. Some people argue that having an abortion is no different than using any other type of contraception. Other people believe that a human being is formed at conception therefore having an abortion is in fact killing another human being. As we all know it is a severe crime to kill another person as it is punishable by death in some states. So to make this legal you have to say that a fetus before a certain week is not considered a living person. The federal government has its views on abortions as well as does many churches but ultimately the people make up both of those parties so it really comes down to whether they are pro-choice or pro-life. The first thing that must be decided is when does human life begin? According to the Association of Pro-Life Physicians, “life begins at fertilization, when a sperm unites with an oocyte”. In order for something to be considered a living creature it must meet certain elements and a fetus at even one day meets all of those elements. That means if you take a pro-choice approach to abortion then you are choosing to go against the science that has helped us evolve from where we were hundreds of years ago if you choose to say that having an abortion within the first twelve weeks is not killing a human......

It'Sb a Woman's Choice to Have an Abortion

...It’s a Woman’s Choice to Have an Abortion Angel Jones Ethical and Legal Issues in Healthcare AIU Virtual Campus October 31, 2015 It’s a Woman’s Choice to Have an Abortion Abortion is defined as the termination of a pregnancy before birth using medicine or surgery, resulting in the removal of the fetus and placenta from a woman’s uterus. Because the process of this procedure ultimately results in the death of the fetus, Abortion has been one of the most debated ethical issues of our time and dividing our nation (Raffel, Borgone, D’Ambrosio, Heydon, 2015). The world is divided on this issue with pro-choice supporters on one side, pro-life supporters on the other side, and the government in the middle. The government is trying to eliminate the option of abortion for women, stripping them of their right to make decisions concerning their bodies. Is it fair? Everyone has their own opinion or arguments against abortion, but ultimately it should be the woman who makes the choice whether to have an abortion or not. There have been many debates on abortion between the pro-life and pro-choice supporters. Among those topics debated has been whether or not abortions are safe, considered murder, or if it’s used as a form of contraception. The pro-life supporters have argued that life begins at the time of conception so abortion is considered murder. The pro-choice supporters fired back stating that nearly all abortions take place in the first trimester, when a fetus......

Abortion, Right or Wrong?

...Abortion, Right or Wrong? To most people life is a gift. Some people live each day as if it were their last. Others take life for granted and assume that what they put off today they can do tomorrow. What about the life of the unborn child, the human being that is growing and developing inside its mother’s womb. Is it the right of the mother to say this child shall be born, or is it the right of the government? Does the developing fetus have a voice on this issue? These questions have been asked as far back as ancient times. Today, the question whether abortion is right or wrong still has many people on different sides of the issue. Abortions have been performed throughout history for many different reasons. Laws and their enforcement on the issue have fluctuations through many eras. Many of the methods used in early and primitive cultures were non-surgical. Common techniques were making the woman perform strenuous physical activities such as climbing, paddling, weightlifting, or diving. Women could also use irritant leaves, fasting, bloodletting, and pouring hot water onto the abdomen. Each culture had its own ways of dealing with unwanted pregnancies. For centuries, South Asia has practiced the technique of massage abortion, the application of pressure to the pregnant abdomen. During the nineteenth century in the United States, the use of candles and other objects, such as glass rods, penholders, curling irons, spoons, sticks, knives, and......

Abortion Is Wrong

... Babies Lives Matter Kristen Trussell Medtech College Instructor Bouzouma EN140 25 January 2016   Abortion has become a highly discussed topic in our country from people believing its right and others believing its wrong. Annually, an estimated 43.8 million babies die from abortion worldwide (World Health Organization/Guttmacher Institute, published 2012). That is approximately one baby being aborted every two seconds In many states, abortion has been banned after 16 weeks of pregnancy and many doctors will not perform an abortion unless of a medical reason. Some small clinics such as Planned Parenthood will perform these abortions. When going to these clinics there are pro-life and pro-choice groups usually standing out front with signs. Pro-life groups favor greater restrictions on abortion. They argue that a fetus is a human being with the right to live, so abortion is murder. Pro-choice groups argue that a woman has certain reproductive rights especially the right to choose whether to carry a fetus or not. My own is that I think if there is nothing wrong with the fetus when the woman goes to her ultrasound appointments and nothing shows up and there’s no medical problems with the woman then she should keep it. One of the most common reasons a woman chooses to abort is because they want to delay a pregnancy because they are too young. However, in some cases a woman becomes pregnant from being rapped and decides to abort the baby. They do not want to live with the......

Abortion Argumentative Essay, Pro Choice

... Mrs. Averbeck February 27, 2016 On January 22, 1973 the United States Supreme Court made a 7 - 2 decision to legalize abortion in most of the fifty states. Although abortion was not legal in the past it was being preformed on women since the fifteenth century all over the globe, but, most women did not survive the surgery. That is the biggest reason it was preformed in secret because it was taking so many lives. Thanks to modern day medicine and technology the success rate for women is nearly one hundred percent. Today, the decision that was made in 1973 has caused American citizens, mostly women, to debate wether abortion is considered murder or just a simple act of not wanting to bring an unwanted child into a home but many people have not chosen a defining side in the debate, yet there are many valid points on both sides of the pro-life and pro-choice arguments. The pro-choice side has more supporters today and their case is making a stronger impact on America. Points made on the pro-choice side have very valid factual evidence supporting them, but some are also pure opinion. An example of a factual point from the pro-choice side is that abortion a now very safe procedure. Less then one percent of women who get an abortion, before twenty one weeks of pregnancy, experience any major complications. If abortion is made illegal the pro-choice side believes women will seek other options to terminate their pregnancy. This would cause many women's death or near death......
