Student Guide

Welcome to your Advanced Leadership Course. Read your AKO emails. HRC provides us with your AKO email address. Most of our course interaction will be by email.

Your course consists of 5 Modules. There are practical exercises, quizzes, and an end of module exam for each.

Completion of this course is required as part of the NCOES system in order for you to become promoted to SFC.

Students who fail to complete the course by the course closure date or academically fail the course will be placed at the bottom of the OML. It may be up to two years before you are selected for another ALC Course.

Students - Although this is a self paced course, Letters of Concern will be sent to your Chain of Command if you fall behind the time line. Manage your time wisely.

Stay proactive in your studies. If you have a problem with anything throughout the course, contact one of your facilitators since we have different work schedules.

ENROLLMENT PROCEDURE

STUDENT LOG-IN

1. Log into AKO

2. Click on the Self Service tab located to the far right of the Home tab

3. Select the My Training Tab

4. Look for Army Warrior University Enrollments Box

5. Click on the active tab look for the Advanced Leaders Course Common Core and click on the (ALC-CC) link. (make sure your internet pop-up blocker is turned off)

6. When you click on the ALC link it will take you (http://ncoes.ellc.learn.army.mil) Blackboard

7. On your Announcements page, click on the In-processing tab menu tab on the left hand side.

8. Follow the 5 steps listed under the In-processing instructions

The purpose of the ALC Research Paper is to evaluate your research ability and to give you the opportunity to demonstrate your written communication abilities. 2. Your Research Papers will be graded as a Superior, Go or No-Go and will be used as a tool in the evaluation of the Total Soldier Concept. 3. The requirements for the Research Paper will be a minimum of , but not limited to the following. • The paper will have a thesis • Choose a military topic; exclude the civil war. • All Research Papers will be done on 8 ½” x 11” white paper, with margins of 1” x 1”. • The Research Papers will be a minimum of 4 pages of typed information and not to exceed 6 pages. • Photos, graphs, title page, and bibliography are excluded in written page count. • The font size will be 12. • Font type will be Times New Roman. The answer that cannot be denied is YES. However, another question raised up is: “How did Starbucks get it?” To find out the answer for the second question, we have to look at its strategy. First and foremost, it is claimed that Starbucks has used broad differentiation strategy. From the beginning, Schultz chose top quality, fresh-roasted, whole-bean coffee as the company’s differentiating feature and bedrock value. After 1983 trip to Milan, recreating the authentic Italian coffee bar culture in the U.S was the additional differentiating factor. The ideas of how to design stores were started in 1991 that Starbucks formed a project team called “stores of the future” to in charge of bring out new ideas to decorate each Starbucks stores. They came up with 4 stores designs that each has its own color combination, lighting scheme and component materials.
