Art 101 Week 1

...Understanding Iconography Sandra Michelli Art 101 Feb 17, 2013 Timothy Brown Understanding Iconography The two works of art I chose are, Rebellious Silence, by Shirin Neshat and The South Ledges, Appledore by Childe Hassam. Though these are two totally different works of art, I found them both interesting and compelling. They both showed different images and roles of women in society. When creating a piece of art, the artist has four roles to consider or fill. These roles are; the artist helps to show the world in a different way than others might see it, they create a visual record of the time period and area they are in, they make objects that have a given function and are ordinary look more appealing and lastly the artist gives meaning to ideas, thoughts or feelings that are considered immaterial. When an artist creates a piece of art with the role of showing you something you see often in a different way, they are trying to get you to think out of the box. Look at a common scene or items and see it, not for what it is, but for what it could be. While the artist who is trying to show you how to see a common thing or place in a different way, the artist who is trying to fill the role of expressing their time period or the place they are recreating are trying to help show you exactly what they are seeing and they are seeing it. They are trying to bring their visions to you just as they are. The third role of the artist, giving common objects more appeal or......

Art 101 Week Checkpoint

...Art 101 Week 8 Checkpoint Comparison of Three Sculptures Art is heavily influenced by the culture in which it was produced. As the three versions of David make evident, one person or object will be represented in different ways depending on the environment of its portrayer. In examining the sculptures of David created by Donatello, Michelangelo, and Bernini I can see that art is not only influenced by an artist’s surroundings, but because of popular styles of the era. Donatello’s and Michelangelo’s David are similar in many ways. Both sculptures being from the Renaissance, they share some characteristics in form. Each artist positioned the body of David in the contrapposto position. Their bodies are curved, relaxed and shown in the nude. This reflects the popular style of sculpture of the culture and relates the ideas about the human form. Donatello’s David is different from Michelangelo’s most in the physical attributes of the body. Michelangelo’s David has more of the sculpted bodies of the Greek gods. The sculpture is muscular, mature and his physical beauty is not to be overlooked at. Donatello’s David has the body of a young man still developing into his body. Instead of appearing strong and confident, David appears to have a young boy facing a task much harder and larger than him. Bernini’s David has the shape of a human body in motion. He is strong like Michelangelo’s David and appears to be ready......

Checkpoint Week 8

...Week 8 Checkpoint Threat Categorization Torrey D Boyer IT/240 August 7, 2013 The world of technology is threatened each day by malicious viruses and worms that can cripple an entire company. I will explain how each virus or worm functions and spreads through computer systems. Boot Sector - is a virus that is spread by floppy disk. The disk is left in the drive with the virus and will spread to the C: drive during the next boot sequence. File – is a virus that corrupts the computers executable files on a network. When the file is opened, the virus overwrites it and causes damage to the infected file. Multipartite – is a virus that uses the boot sector to move quickly, infecting both the boot sector and the executable files at the same time. This makes the virus very dangerous because just by turning on the computer, the virus latches onto the hard disk and broadcasts malicious payloads throughout the program files. Macro – is a virus that affects files that contain macro codes in them that is interpreted by an application. They are commonly spread by electronic emails. Trojan horse – is a program that seems to be functioning normally but has a hidden malicious virus in it, and by accessing the system or computer, can corrupt the authorizations. Email worms – is a worm or virus that is spread through email. They are usually sent as an attachment or spread inside the body of an email.......

Week 8 Checkpoint Jetblue and Westjet

...JetBlue and Westjet: A Tale of Two IS Projects Week 8 Checkpoint Case Study Questions By: Cicely Sawin 3/21/2014 IT/205 Catherine Williams Over the past years, customers have been heavily relying on airline reservation systems to book their tickets, reserve seats, pay for the tickets and also check-in online. For customers, this has been a very convenient method and they are able to easily plan their trips. For the Airline companies, these systems have the whole flight inventory managed. They have all the flight information stored and records are maintained. It also provides a platform for communication between other airline companies for their “code-sharing plans” and agents or other ticketing offices can see real time information about the bookings and availability of seats. Since both parties rely on these systems they are of big importance to airline companies. For example, we see in the case of WestJet, the amount of chaos created after a delay of switch to another version of the system. Airline reservation systems have impacted operational activities and decision making. They have made it easier to maintain accounts with other airlines and internal processes between departments are more efficient since the “minus, plus” is done online. There has also been growth in faster service times which leads to increased customer satisfaction since customers can plan, book and pay online. Airline companies are able to make good......

Cultural relativism asserts that every culture has its own set of customs and beliefs, and that culture must be understood by the standards and values of the people within that culture. Anthropologists think that things that might seem cruel or irrational in our own culture must be seen through the lens of cultural relativity, and that all cultures have practices or beliefs that can be seen by others as repugnant or incomprehensible. After reading the U.N. Declaration of Human Rights, explain whether you think that cultural relativism can coexist with the idea of universal human rights. Each of them show different styles. Michelangelo‘s, David was done in 1501-1504. It was done in marble and stood 14 feet by 3inches. Bernini,David was done in 1623. It was also done in marble, five feet, seven inches. Michelangelo’s styles belonged to the renaissance period, while Bernini belongs to the baroque period. Michelangelo’s statue of David has a different pose, David puts all of his weight on one leg, while the other is bent. This was done to show that the person was ready to move. This statue was also nude to show David’s heroism standing for all times. Putting clothes on the statue would just limit it to one time period. Bernini’s David isn’t completely nude with a few articles of clothing. Unlike Michelangelo’s David, Bernini’s David is not posed according to classical traditions. His stance was as if he was in the mist of battle. His facial expressions tell it all. Michelangelo’s perception of David was before the battle. It looks as though he is sizing up his opponent and deciding what to do next. One Statue uses his strength and the other his mind. Michelangelo’s David, looked as if it were perfect.......
