Executive Summary

This report was produced for British Airways for the purpose of providing strong competitive edge in Airline industries. BA is a leader in airline operators in UK which face a lot of competition in the last decade.
This report will analysis, identify and evaluate strategic choices that BA could pursue both internal and external environment forces. Some of the strategic will includes the strategy gap of BA. Through this strategic, we have recommended that BA should focus on their communication, planning, forecasting and strategy formulation to restore their competitive advantage within the industry.

The main objective of this report is to recommendation a good strategy for BA. This report will consist of sections which includes the followings:
To found out the current strategic position of BA, Analysing the internal and external environment forces of BA, recommend strategic options using the internal and external analysis, evaluate strategic choices that BA could pursue and discuss the implementation.

British Airways Plc is the number Airline in UK and one of the best Airlines in the world which operates both domestic and international flights.(British Airways, 2008) In association with code share and franchise partners, BA have more than 33 million passengers, earning over £8.7 in revenue 2007/08. [Signed] Phoebe.” The type of instrument that is used in this scenario is a promissory note. When a promissory note is present, this is a written promise which involves two parties (Miller & Hollowell, 2011). The two parties that are present in a promissory note is the maker (payer) and the payee and the note may be made with a specific date mentioned or on demand-when the payee requests the money (Miller & Hollowell, 2011). In the scenario above, the maker is Phoebe and the payee is Quint and it the note is written to indicate that when Quint asks for the $600, Phoebe is to pay it at that time. Over the last fifteen years Best Buy, like many retailers, is “competing with a perfect storm of disruptive technologies (Savitz 2)”; making it hard to compete with companies such as such as Apple and Amazon that are embraced with innovations. As a result, Best Buys 2012 financial performance fell subpar, with a revenue decrease of 2.4% in the brick and mortar sector and operating profit plummeting by 54.30% in 2012. The net loss of the company was $1,231.00 million for 2012, against a net profit of $1,277.00 million during 2011 (Global Data 1). Lastly, Best Buy appears to be having cash flow problems in terms of declining liquidity of $1125 million (41.28% drop) for the year 2011. It is obvious by these numbers that Best Buy, a company that has been historically successful, has been running into some recent troubles. It was important for Ryanair to distinguish itself from the other competitors due to the nature of the industry. Being a new player in the industry, Ryanair had low bargaining power with both suppliers and buyers. Airline companies would require large amounts of oil to run its business. Being a scarce resource, supply is limited and this gives oil suppliers the ability to dictate the prices, affecting the operating costs and hence the profit margins of the company. On top of this, the restriction that Ryanair had of flying only its 44-seater turbopop made it difficult for the company to capitalize more of the market as they could not have bigger planes to fetch more passengers. To make things even harder, 75% of the consumers actually chose the rail-and-ferry option instead of flying by air even though it took 9 times faster to travel by air.
