...Demonstrative Communication BCOM/275 Demonstrative Communication Demonstrative communication can be defined as verbal and non-verbal actions direct or indirect connection with other people. Communication is a way to transmit feelings or thoughts; it is a process of transferring information between a sender and a receiver. It involves replacing ideas, messages or information given. Verbal communication however is straight to the point because when one is speaking you can hear the sincerity or the sarcastic implies within their voice. Demonstrative communication centers on the nonverbal and unwritten forms of how communication is shared among an individual or group by using facial expressions, a certain tone of voice and body gesture which is primarily used to enhance our verbal communications. By using hand gestures during a lecture, we can keep the attention of our audience. However, if we move too much it becomes a distracter and received as a negative effect, thus causing our audience to become distracted and not receive our message. Using a drone monotone voice has a negative impact as there is the chance of quickly losing the attention of the group he is addressing, it will put your class at ease, and they will not get the full effect of the course. As we change our tone and tempo of talking, we can connect with the audience. When we speak, other people “read” our voices in addition to listening to our words. When speaking to an audience maintaining the focus...

...Knowing Your Audience Paper and Communication Release BCOM/275 Knowing your audience paper and Communication Release As we all know how important it is to use proper communication we also must ensure that the receivers of that message understand the information we are providing to them. Without checks and balances when conveying our thought process verbally or non-verbally it will ensure us our audience completely understands and not lead to confusion. As we will notice with the communication during the Chilean copper mine accident in South America. Knowing your audience proves to be even more significant when a company has to deal with the outcome resulting from a disaster. Understanding that families and workers need to me told in different manners is a key On August 5, 2010, a small copper mine in northern Chile collapsed trapping inside of it 33 miners (Weik, 2010). The mining company Minera San Esteban Primera, had to take on the very difficult task of informing families and workers within the company about this fatal accident. The agents chosen by the company to handle these releases took great care in how straightforward and honest information was delivered in order to keep the company’s reputation intact. These miners were trapped some 300 meters underground they had limited oxygen supplies, little food, or water for such a catastrophe. Once news was leaked of the accident everyone glued themselves to their television from around the world to watch the...

...Florida Motorcycle Helmet Law BCOM/275 Florida Motorcycle Helmet Law The history of motorcycle helmet laws in the United States is characterized by change. In 1967, to increase motorcycle helmet use, the federal government required the states to enact helmet use laws in order to qualify for certain federal safety programs and highway construction funds. By the early 1970s, almost all the states had universal motorcycle helmet laws. Michigan was the first state to repeal its law in 1968, beginning a pattern of repeal, reenactment, and amendment of motorcycle helmet laws. In 1976, states successfully lobbied Congress to stop the Department of Transportation from assessing financial penalties on states without helmet laws.(IIHS.com 2012) Now with that being said, Why the use of a helmet? Why is it we needs laws to govern free American riders that want to enjoy the freedom of the open road with no limitations? He or she must remember helmets are expensive and they take time to get used too. If you drop one according to the Department of Transportation you it needs to be replace as the safety rating has diminished, which becomes costlier over time, and where would he or she store them when you are out riding and want to stop someplace to everyone that’s an extra burden they can do without. How about the safety risks for wearing a helmet? The size, shape, and weight are all contributing factors that can lead to head and neck fatigue and the breaking of the neck in an......

...Career Plan Reflection Paper Alexis Phan BCOM/275 February 5, 2014 Rodney Thirion The career plan building activities actually just confirmed what I already knew about myself. I love to work with and interact with people, I love to help people, I like to deliver results and I can be resistant to change. The activities also taught me things that I didn’t know about myself. I always viewed myself as organized and I learned that I could definitely be more organized. Being organized prevents one from rushing, and one is able to deliver great results as because their work is thorough. I also learned that I value job security and how much a job having the potential for me to grow and learn new things and move up in the organization means to me. This course actually can apply to my current and future career because it taught me how to communicate with people and the importance of communication. How a message is received by the receiver can have a great impact on my patients and potential investors. It taught me that I definitely have a lot to work on when it comes to my nonverbal communication skills such as my body language, gestures, eye contact, etc. My communication skills greatly affected my chances of being re-hired at my previous place of employment after being laid off and this course made me realize that much more. I knew that communication was very important but I don’t think I realized how big an impact it could have on my life. Now when speaking to......

...ARTICLE REBUTTAL – GUN CONTROL 1 Article Rebuttal – Gun Control Xxxxxx Xxxxx BCOM 275 20 Mar 14 Ceasar I Elpidio Article Rebuttal – Gun Control For this assignment I chose an article titled “Data suggest guns do in fact kill people” (M.S., Sep 2013). The author of the article tries to use data to show a correlation between the prevalence of firearms with the amount of homicides committed by them. To support his stance he uses crime statistics from the United Kingdom compared to the United States. I believe this use of statistics from two different cultures is flawed and will attempt to show why. First of all, the UK has some of the most stringent gun laws in the world. Even the police officers there don’t all carry firearms. Firearms are usually only used by special response units. Now don’t get me wrong the UK still has crime that involves firearms but at nowhere the rate the US has. I believe part of the reason for this is the culture difference. The UK first began regulating firearm ownership in 1903 (Wikipedia, 2013). That is over 110 years of controlling the purchase of firearms. If some of the same laws were used here in the US would it take us 110 years to get to the point the UK is at now? Also, what happens to the some 270 – 310 million firearms that are already in the US (GunPolicy.org, 2014)? Literally, there are more firearms in this country than people! He also tries to make light of information given by Ben Shapiro of...

...Misunderstandings in Communication Misunderstanding #1 Who was the sender? My Sargent Who was the receiver? Myself What was the message? My Sargent was trying to communicate directions to me of the medical building I had to drop this urgent lab paperwork off to. What channel was used to send the message? Face to face conversation What was the misunderstanding that occurred? His directions on how to get to the medical building were clear, but not clear on where to drop the lab paperwork off once I was there. He stated, “Drop the papers of at the first clinic to the right, once you walk in the building, you can put them in their box.” So I did exactly that. I ended up dropping the papers off to the wrong clinic though because it was supposed to be dropped off at the women’s clinic and I dropped it off at the primary clinic. The clinics had switched their locations in the hospital a week earlier. I didn’t know because when you drop off paperwork, you drop it in a drop box, which it only said drop box. Therefore, since it was dropped off at the wrong location, it was not processed correctly, which made it late for the Commander. Since this happened, the Commander had to locate the paperwork, get it to the right location, and have them expedite it back to him. I ended up finding out that the paperwork was for a solider that was wounded. How could the misunderstanding have been avoided? This could have been avoided if my Sargent would have said to me, “Drop this paperwork......
