Vodafone decía que quería obtener de Japón el nivel de tecnología que tenía. Quería aprovechar lo que tiene el mercado. (Arbitraje)
La empresa se equivocó porque se basó en una estrategia de precios y no en la que demandaba el mercado japonés que era innovación y servicio. Vodafone trató de entender el servicio a través de una estrategia de despliegue y el mercado japonés se “retrasó”, se pasó de servicio japonés a implementar el servicio europeo, al que el mercado no estaba acostumbrado.
ESTRUCTURA: Al comprar la empresa dejaron pocos empleados del país, y eso fue lo que afectó a la empresa; en concepto la estrategia era muy buena, pero no supieron aplicarla al mercado. En la implementación la estrategia de arbitraje y terminó aplicando la de despliegue. No supieron adquirir los conocimientos de los japoneses, solamente llegaron a implementar lo que ya tenían y no adaptarse a ellos.

Cuando tu quieres saber de una cultura es juntarse con las personas de esa cultura y conocer a su gente y hacer una estrategia más especializada en base a los pensamientos de estos.

I imagine that when Anthony Athanas was purchasing those old piers back in the 1960s many, if not all, of his colleagues, friends, and family members told him that he was off his rocker. I’m sure Athanas was looking at this land as his family’s ticket to financial prosperity and somewhat of a legacy that he could leave to his descendants for years and years to come. One of the items I wish the case would have divulged is the amount of money that Athanas had invested in the properties. For me this information would have given an insight to his net worth and how much he had riding on this investment. I assume it was substantial given his actions later in the process. Twenty years later Athanas’ dreams came true and all those naysayers were more than likely green with envy. The amount of pride Athanas’ had in his investment at that moment had to have been insurmountable. Being approached by a big time real estate development company and their extremely wealthy client, Hyatt Corporation, must have made Athanas feel larger than life and made him feel like something he isn’t, which is a developer himself. In terms of subscribers, it has over 391 million subscribers, second only to China-Mobile. Vodafone Group has been able to grow through a series of strategic decisions that has allowed them to operate their networks in over 30 countries as well as operate partner networks in over 40 countries. In 2007, Vodafone Group entered the Indian market by acquiring 67% of Hutchison Essar, one of India’s largest mobile telecommunications companies, for $11.1 billion. After the time of the acquisition, the company was rebranded which was in accordance with Vodafone Group’s practice. The company was now known as Vodafone Essar. In 2011, Vodafone Group agreed to buy out Essar and purchased their 33% stake in the business for $5.46 billion. This agreement left Vodafone Group owning 75% of the mobile phone business with the remaining shares being held by individual investors. We test hypotheses relating organizational form to efficiency, where the efficiency of each firm is measured relative to ‘‘best practice’’ efficient frontiers consisting of the most efficient firms in the industry. The Spanish insurance market provides an interesting case study in insurance organizational structure for three primary reasons: (1) Spanish government policy during the 1980s led to a significant restructuring of the industry, resulting in the removal from the market of many small, undercapitalized insurers. (2) The adoption of the European Union’s (EU) Third Generation Insurance Directives in 1994 effectively deregulated the EU insurance market, with the exception of solvency regulation. 3 The Spanish and EU regulatory changes increased the level of competitiveness in the Spanish insurance market, providing an interesting laboratory for the analysis of organizational form. Referring to our Appendix 2, we build a Mobile Subscribers Schedule for Vodafone, Mannesmann and Orange based on their country presences. For “Population Growth Rate”, we take the assumption from the World Bank; for “Mobile Penetration Rate”, we assumed 15% annual growth rate, as all the countries are developed countries that enjoy high mobile usage growth. For each operator’s market shares in different countries, we assigned different growth rate. For example, for D2 in Germany, which Vodafone controls 35% and Mannesmann controls 65% of the company, we assumed 2% increase of D2’s market share in Germany due to its integrated telecommunication strategy that could increase customer’s satisfaction and hence increase new users’ subscription.
