Employers do try to be diverse within hiring process, but most places do want a more qualified person to fill the open position. Not everyone has the experience under their belt and has to start off somewhere and sometimes there is other things you can do to show how determined and skilled you are. Taking the time to take exams and obtain a certification looks good no matter whom you are and it is a good way to show employers you are serious about the career you want and have what it takes. The CFE exam is a great way to become a member of the ACFE. The CFE has many resources including a prep course to prepare an individual for the exam. If someone is serious about a job they will use any resources possible and take every step necessary to get the job. The CFE does require a bachelor’s so it does show that an individual has made the right steps and stayed dedicated to acquire a degree and it allows someone to substitute two years of fraud-related experience for one year of academic study. Going through the right steps to become a CFE, there are many benefits. One being the CFE boasts a 23 percent salary premium and has been identified as “the gold standard in the area of fraud,” (ACFE, 2016). There is also member exclusive publications that keep a CFE up-to-date with the latest fraud-related news, information, and trends. The ACFE offers the best anti-fraud training available, including conferences, seminars, webinars, courses, books and manuals. So not only does it show your knowledge by completing the exam to become a CFE, but once you’re are certified, it is much easier to keep the knowledge up-to-date and the best resources.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) requires companies whose shares are publicly traded to obtain an audit by an independent auditor. The audit involves an examination to assess whether the financial statements and accompanying notes present fairly a company’s financial position, results of operations, and cash flows in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Once this examination is made, the auditor is required to render an opinion.
