When a college student makes the decision to do an internship, it can be equally rewarding for both parties. Employers may receive a student who may not be “seasoned” however, they can be a key element in assisting the organization's needs. With the economy as it is today, an intern can save the employer money. An intern is not required to be added to the organization's payroll, receive medical insurance or even partake in paid holidays or vacations which are just a few reasons on how an intern can save the employer on employee costs. The organizations that will be using interns need to keep in mind that just because they are using an intern, it can not be done just to save money (Associated Press, 2009). The students return is much more than that of the employer. For instance, some students may get paid for their internship if it is a larger organization that sponsors the internship (University Parent Connection, 2008). While not all interns receive pay, the knowledge gained is worth it. Other benefits the student can receive may be earning college credits, the possibility of job placement upon completion of the internship or graduation and hands on experience. Also, students will learn networking skills. This skill is sometimes overlooked in college, but can certainly be a huge asset to the student. During this time the student is given the opportunity to display what they are capable of achieving, while meeting new people (University Parent Connection, 2008). Because of networking, the student is increasing their chances of being found by potential employers and therefore will expand their opportunities for finding an ideal job (University Parent Connection, 2008).

As mentioned earlier, some internships can be paid especially if the intern is working for a larger organization or if the job training provides professional experience that can further a…...

Responses were collected by fax. The results of this study should be of interest to accounting students, faculty program administrators, and practitioners. Gaining real-life knowledge of accounting tasks and obtaining insight regarding career planning were the two most important benefits identified. 11 Reasons Why You Must Get Internship Experience in College

...11 Reasons Why You MUST Get Internship Experience in College As one would expect, recent research from the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) proves that students with internship experience are significantly more likely to get hired after college than peers lacking internship experience. NACE’s research also shows that students with internship experience tend to have much higher starting salaries than students without such experience. Here are 11 specific reasons why internship experience in college is so essential for career success after graduation. 1. Internships demonstrate initiative. Every employer (or graduate school) wants “go-getters.” Given that internships are usually not required in college, such experience will prove that you are proactive about career development. 2. Internships help you learn more about yourself. Through an internship, you can gain clarity on your strengths, weaknesses, and interests. Equally important, you can also learn what you don’t enjoy doing. 3. Internships enhance your resume. Worried about having a solid resume? Internship experience can fix that concern. 4. Internships help you sell yourself in interviews. Worried about what you will discuss in an interview for a full-time job? Internship experience helps you overcome that obstacle also. 5. Internships increase your professional confidence. By interning, you can confront and overcome the “fear of the unknown” that you may have about what it’s like......

...Mostly every individual who has held a job in their life is familiar with stress, specifically job-related stress. As a college student, I have yet to be exposed to the stress of a full-time position, but I feel I have a detailed idea of what to expect. As a junior in high school, I began my first job as a Pharmacy Technician. Beginning this job taught me that balance was necessary in order to be successful in life. I knew that I needed to balance my classwork, job, extracurricular activities, family time and many other aspects of life that I had not learned to do before receiving this position. Having a job changed my life. I held this position throughout my junior year in college and still sometimes work a shift or two in order to assist my past supervisor. Not only did I deal with the stress of having a job and finding balance in life, I then I had to deal with stress at the workplace. While working at the pharmacy we changed suppliers, computer systems, inventory regulation systems, how items were filed, insurance company policies and many other aspects of the business. I was a fresh mind exposed to the stress of change. I instantly noticed that each person I worked with had a different way of dealing with the change. The owner of the pharmacy would have a hard time keeping calm and often lose her patience when someone was not understanding a new ‘rule’ or policy. One of the pharmacists was able to keep calm during the change, but had a difficult time......
