Colombia Leadership Attributes Colombia is a wonderful country that has similar leadership attributes to other Latin American Countries. The country is often referred to as the most Roman Catholic of the South American Countries. The Church has influence many aspects of Colombia like: marriage, family life, education, social welfare, and union organization. The family is so important to Colombians that it takes the centre stage in the social structure. The family acts a source of support and advice and as a result, great loyalty is shown in the families. Colombia can be attributed as a hierarchical society in which people earn respect due to age and position. Older people are seem as being wise and are afforded great respect in society. Also, Colombians expect the most senior person, at home or at work to make decisions. Gender roles have change a little in Colombia but still male continues to occupy the dominant role. Males dominate within the household as disciplinarian and assume responsibility for maintaining family pride and position within the community. Regarding to space Colombian’s maintain distance with strangers or business acquaintances, but with friends and family are more physically intimate. Punctuality in official environments is very important for Colombian’s and is seem as a matter of culture and respect for the other person. On social occasions, however; guests are expected to arrive 30 minutes late. Colombian business people take meeting seriously, observing rules of hierarchy and protocol and generally following an agenda in a disciplined manner. Another attribute about Colombia is that they usually are successful in striking the right balance between formality and friendliness, especially when dealing with foreigners.

At 9 a.m. on February 1st 2003 NASA’s (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) Space Shuttle, Columbia STS-107 disintegrated over the southern United States upon re-entry. There was some controversy surrounded this disaster, mainly how the Mission Management Team (MMT) (leader, Linda Ham handled the entire situation. Could this disaster been prevented? NASA could have prevented the issue with all the new age technology that they posses.
