Credit Suisse One Cabot Square London E14 4QJ Dear Sir or Madam, I am currently a third year Warwick University student on a four year Masters in Physics course, eager to secure a place on Credit Suisse’s prestigious summer internship program. An experience at the Laboratório de Instrumentação e Física Experimental de Partículas (LIP), as an intern analyst in the area of high energy cosmic rays, whilst interesting, revealed to be mechanical, repetitive and slow paced with little professional advancement. It was during a careers fair at Warwick University, that the dynamic and competitive nature of the finance industry was brought to my attention. Subsequently I attended presentations held by various firms, including Credit Suisse, each describing the wide spectrum of divisions and opportunities offered by the sector and the firms. The Investment Banking division was described to be fast paced, exciting and intellectually challenging thus appealing to me greatly. Networking with individuals such as Omri Lumbrosso and Andrew Burton, provided a window to the significant responsibilities given to intern analysts and how the skills I have collected can benefit the firm. This further fuelled my motivation to learn more about the industry, division and firm, thus leading me to take a finance module this year and become an avid reader of the Economist. My degree course has provided me with significant analytical and problem solving skills, regularly used in various modules and group laboratory experiments, which were successfully researched, planned and executed, submitting a collective scientific report at the end. I have also developed a passion for my training in ZSK Chinese Kickboxing, which in turn has taught me determination, confidence and discipline, which I…...

...Cover Letter 2207 Leon Street, #206 Austin, TX 78705 August 31st, 2014 Dear Recruiting Manager, I am very interested in the Software Data Analyst position at GE. Currently, I am a graduate student at Mccombs School of Business majoring in business analytics. I believe my previous experience in consulting and leadership roles have prepared me well for this position. Prior to attending Mccombs, I acquired a diverse set of analytical and client interaction skills working across multiple industries in an entrepreneurial environment in Mu Sigma. I thrived in the innovative and collaborative culture which focused more on learning than knowing. As a business analyst, I developed datamarts for retail and financial companies, synthesizing data based on complex business rules. For a pharmaceutical client, I developed a potential-workload balance algorithm to optimize the sales force alignment, increasing profitability by 30%. Working with data, I have sharpened my quantitative and analytical skills, with the ability to take loosely defined business questions and translating them into clear, actionable insights. Demonstrating competence to quickly learn complex businesses and provide quality work under tight deadlines has earned me multiple recognitions at the workplace. During my tenure at ZS Associates...

...Before writing a cover letter, its important to understand how it can help or hurt you. In the internship application process a cover letter is your first impression. It's an opportunity to tell a perspective employer why you’re the perfect fit for their internship and their office and just as importantly, a cover letter is an opportunity to tell an employer you don't care about their position, by writing a sloppy or template cover letter. Some valuable cover letter topics include, explaining why a position interests you, what you bring to the table, how you would be a great fit, or something unique about you that makes you different from the hundreds of other candidates. The ultimate goal of your cover letter is to get the reader excited to meet you for an interview to learn more. To summarize the points above, ingredients needed to make a successful cover letter are: Header with contact information: Including a header with your contact information on the cover letter makes you look professional and ensures your information will be easy to find. You should also consider including this header on all documents you’re submitting when applying, it demonstrates your professionalism and acts as an opportunity to brand yourself to the perspective employer.  Who is your audience? Try to find the person who is in charge of intern hiring and address your cover letter and resume to them. Statistics show you have a better chance of being hired if you know who’s doing the hiring......

...COVER LETTER SAMPLES Your Name Your Street Address City, State, Zip Date Employer’s Name Title Company Street Address City, State, Zip Dear Mr. or Ms. Last Name: Your opening paragraph should briefly introduce you and your interest in the company. If you are aware of a specific position or opening, refer to it now. This paragraph should also be used to mention the names of individuals you have met from the company (e.g., at the EIS, company event or other networking event), or the individual who directed you to this person. Cite other research that prompted you to write, such as a recent article on the company or a positive networking interaction. The last line in this paragraph should give a summary statement of who you are and why you are a strong fit for the position. Your middle paragraph (or two) should consist of specific examples from your background that would be of greatest interest to the company and consequently create the “notion of fit.” Do not just make broad generalizations about your skill set – any assertions about your skills have to be backed up with specific examples of how/why you have developed those skills. Focus on your skills and accomplishments and how they could contribute to the company, but do not simply restate what is on your resume. Demonstrate that you know about the organization and the industry. If you are a career changer, it is essential to clearly state your transferable skills from previous experience that......

Post Crisis Compensation at Credit Suisse

...Post Crisis Compensation at Credit Suisse (A) Brady Dougan 2009 adopted the G-20 guidelines for compensation in the financial industry 1 year ahead of schedule The goal of this strategy was to have various lines of business in banking work more closely together. 1978- Credit Suisse formed a joint venture with First Boston Inc. One of Wall Street’s earliest and largest investment banks. Credit Suisse owned 60 and First Boston owned 40% was London based and conducted investment banking in Europe. Compensation in CSFB was determined though in internal management process. While not without its share of challenges, Credit Suisse navigated through the financial crisis better than most of its rivals. Compensation at Credit Suisse In normal years, the CEO would ask the compensation committee of CSG’s board to approve a portion of the firm’s income that would be allocated towards incentive compensation (the bonus pool). They would then distribute this upon three functional divisions. 90% was then allocation to the various business units based on their performance. A) How your performance is ranked by your managers B) Actual financial results C) Rank individuals across their peers The rules required that deferred or unvested compensation be exposed over time as it was vested or earned. Because of the uncertainty of costs associated with awards that would change in value over time as a function of firm or share price performance, it was preferable if the......

...All cover letters should: Explain why you are sending a resume. Don't send a resume without a cover letter. Don't make the reader guess what you are asking for; be specific: Do you want a summer internship opportunity, or a permanent position at graduation; are you inquiring about future employment possibilities? Tell specifically how you learned about the position or the organization — a flyer posted in your department, a web site, a family friend who works at the organization. It is appropriate to mention the name of someone who suggested that you write. Convince the reader to look at your resume. The cover letter will be seen first. Therefore, it must be very well written and targeted to that employer. Call attention to elements of your background — education, leadership, experience — that are relevant to a position you are seeking. Be as specific as possible, using examples. Reflect your attitude, personality, motivation, enthusiasm, and communication skills. Provide or refer to any information specifically requested in a job advertisement that might not be covered in your resume, such as availability date, or reference to an attached writing sample. Indicate what you will do to follow-up. In a letter of application — applying for an advertised opening — applicants often say something like "I look forward to hearing from you." However, if you have further contact info (e.g. phone number) and......
