This process is vital and beneficial in everyday life. Everyone has to apply critical thinking skills on one level or another within the workplace in order to make the best decisions for the success of the organization. Describing critical thinking is challenging because the definition itself means something different to each person. Why is critical thinking necessary? “Everyone thinks; it is our nature to do so. But much of our thinking, left to itself, is biased, distorted, partial, uninformed or down-right prejudiced. Yet the quality of our life and that of what we produce, make, or build depends precisely on the quality of our thought. Shoddy thinking is costly, both in money and in quality of life. Excellence in thought, however, must be systematically cultivated” (The Critical Thinking Community, 2009). Leslie works for AT&T in the central office as a Facilities Technician. Her job duties include using a computer to retrieve orders, sweep floors, stock wire, connect equipment from the inside to the cables that run outside, talk to inter-company departments to ensure the......

...Critical Thinking Application Paper Critical Thinking Application Paper University of Phoenix April Armstrong Instructor Karen Amabile Date August 3, 2009 Critical Thinking Application Paper Critical thinking can be described as identifying and challenging assumptions and exploring and imagining alternatives. The idea of not having critical thinking would be to believe everyone no matter what they are saying. Everyone would believe all the commercials on television, any politicians who are giving his or her election speeches, all reading material that is read, and it must be correct if certain organizations are doing it. Critical thinking has eight main components that are known as perception, assumptions, emotion, language, argument, fallacy, logic, and problem solving. Perception is the how an individual receives or explains our personal experiences and how it is received interprets what that person thinks about a certain situation. ...Critical Thinking Application When one hears the words critical thinking, one may automatically become intimidated by past coworkers and colleagues. The thought of critical thinking recalls a company that had a number of self-proclaimed critical thinkers. They walked around with books in their hands titled “Crucial Conversations” and “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.” Their definitions of thinking became apparent when serving as an associate with this organization and defined critical thinking as the norm in their society. These groups of colleagues testified to their knowledge and ability to think outside the box and well prepared to tell their stories about how well they fit into an organization that grows rapidly. One thing they forgot to mention was that they did not practice critical thinking, only preached it to the rest of the organizations staff members. They made it well-known some colleagues were definitely not part of that elite group, according to their standards. As one Human Resources Manager stated, some are not capable of thinking critically in this arena due mostly to the processes the organization used to conduct business. Employees were fearful when preparing documentation for a training course, for example, and scrutinized for not organizing their thoughts and not thinking about the company and how they operate. Therefore, many started to pick up and carry these books around with the hopes that they could indeed fit into the crowd of......
