Pat Benner

...Pat Benner’s Novice to Expert Pat Benner’s Novice to Expert 1 Pat Benner came up with the concept that nurses develop skills and understanding of patient care over time through educational basis as well as a number of experiences. She developed the theory of the five stages of nursing experience; Novice, Advance Beginner, Competent, Proficient, and Expert. As we enter our clinical sites as student registered nurses we are considered novices. Novices are considered beginners with no experience. They are taught rules to help them perform task. With no practical experience they must base what they do on principals and rules. A novice has a limited ability to predict what might happen in a particular patient situation. Advance beginner is the next stage of the nursing experience; they are usually the new graduates. They have dealt with more real patient care experiences to recognize recurring components of the situation. Advance beginners are learning to separate normal and abnormal situations and establish priorities as to what is important. The third stage is competency. A competent nurse is one who has been working in the same setting for at least two to three years. They are more aware of long term goals. The competent nurse is better at developing plans based on “conscious, abstract, analytical thinking.” Some of the skills lacking of a proficient nurse is speed and flexibility. The Manipulation of Anne by Mrs. Smith

...Essay The Manipulation of Anne by Mrs. Smith On the surface Mrs. Smith appears to be the shining light that brings truth and a sense of justice to Persuasion after she reveals the truth about Mr. Elliot to Anne. However, if one were to dig deeper into the dialogue and analyze the language and the syntax between Mrs. Smith and Anne on page one hundred and sixty-six, one can see Mrs. Smith isn’t the savior that she would appear to be on the surface. Mrs. Smith is instead this person who is manipulative and conniving by using Anne’s admiration towards her as a way to then persuade Anne to do as she wishes which ultimately results in Mrs. Smith regaining some of her lost fortune through Anne and Captain Wentworth. This is significant because the narrative voice in Persuasion presents the argument that persuasion as a force upon others can be both a good and bad thing depending on the true intentions of the one persuading. Mrs. Smith and Anne have had a long-standing relationship that was formed several years ago when Mrs. Smith had helped Anne overcome the loss of her mother while away at school. Ever since then, Anne had deeply admired Mrs. Smith for what she did and the character she had shown. From the beginning of the dialogue between Mrs. Smith and Anne, Mrs. Smith is already trying to use Anne’s admiration towards herself for her own motives. When Mrs. Smith says, “My dear,” she is implying that Anne is someone whom she cares for. Mrs. Smith uses the word “My” to give......

Dear Maggie

...Dennis Nivar ENG102-L11 Extra Credit February 3, 2014 Dear Maggie, I am writing this letter to thank you and Momma for allowing Hakim and I to visit the both of you back home. Also thank Momma for the delicious food, and for making Hakim and I feel so welcomed. It was great to go back home after so many years and to see the both of you guys are doing great. Maggie, I also wanted to tell you that I have done a lot of thinking after the visit. I deeply apologize for the way I have acted towards you and Momma, and I was wrong. I apologize not just for my recent visit, but for everything that has happened in the past. I know I have never been the best daughter or sister but there is no excuse for my actions. It bothers me that you’re my only sister and we have never been close. I feel horrible for the lack of communication between us, and how I only wrote to Momma twice in four years. Ever since I left home to get an education and start a new life, I wanted to forget where I came from as much as I could. I couldn’t stand living the way we did and I wanted to break out of that cycle, which was the reason of the name change. I was ashamed of who I was and where I came from, which is wrong. I know I cannot get all of the time back that we did not spend together but I wish I can make that all up. I hope you and Momma can forgive me and maybe for my next visit we can start over again. Sincerely Dee (Wangero)...

Pats History

...broken countless NFL records but always maintains to stay humble when explaining a win or lost in a press conference. This team shows finesse and creativity on the field. The New England Patriots or the Pats as the team is also know as is my favorite team n the NLF. It will be my pleasure and my honor to share with the life, upbringing and downfalls of this organization. Professional football arrived in New England on Nov. 16, 1959, when a group of local businessmen, led by former public relations executive William H. "Billy" Sullivan Jr. was awarded the eighth and final franchise in the new American Football League. One week later, Northwestern University running back Ron Burton was selected as the franchise's first draft choice and Syracuse running back Gerhardt Schwedes was selected as the team's first territorial choice. (1) One of the first orders of business of the management group was giving the franchise a name and that was accomplished through a public contest. Thousands of entries were submitted to name the team and 74 fans suggested the winning name, the Boston Patriots. Shortly after the franchise name was chosen, Boston Globe artist Phil Bissell drew a cartoon of a Minuteman preparing to snap a football and owner Sullivan liked the drawing so much that he selected "Pat Patriot" as the team logo. On April 1, 1960, Boston University Field - the former home of the Boston Braves - was selected as the first home of the Boston Patriots. (1) The Boston Patriots......

Dear Andy

...Rebecca McDonald 9 October 2014 Dr. Shafer English 101 Dear Andy: My friends and I are thinking of going on a LSD trip since our grandparents always speak so nostalgically of it when they were lucid. Could you give me some research on the history and effects of this enigmatic drug off the 60's? Should we do it? By the way we are in our mid- twenties. Tripping into Yesterday... Dear Tripping into Yesterday: In today’s society illegal drugs are a big, controversial topic that is talked about frequently. Whether they are trying to legalize the drug or people are getting busted for the possession of it. You have a great question, and it is good to be curious about things in life. Let me tell you a little more about LSD, more than what your grandparents know. LSD (Lysergic Acid Diethylamide) is a compound derived from lysergic acid and is used as a powerful hallucinogenic drug. The acid comes from a type of fungus that grows on grains like rye and wheat. It came about when a chemist by the name of Albert Hofmann first synthesized LSD in 1938 while looking for a blood stimulant. Although its hallucinogenic effects where not known until 1943 when he accidently ingested it. The drug was first tested on animals to ensure safety to be tested on humans. After the discovery of its extraordinary psychic effects, the substance had its first trials on animals. They were admitted into the series of experimental preparations. Most of the fundamental studies on animals were carried......

Pat and Dan

...Pat and Dan Pat was very frustrated because she wanted to purchase a home but lacked the funds or credit to do so even though Pat was expecting shortly to receive a one-half million dollar final installment payment for some land she sold several years earlier. Dan knew that Pat was very interested in purchasing a home and approached Pat with a proposal to assist Pat in buying a home. Dan told Pat that he would help Pat with the financing. After finding the home she wanted to buy for $250,000, Dan and Pat orally agreed that Dan would purchase the home and "when you come up with the money, I (Dan) will sell it to you (Pat) for $250,000 plus a fair commission to be determined." Dan purchased the home identified by Pat and the following week Pat moved in and began living in the house. During the first six months after moving in, Pat installed new carpeting, window coverings and a patio cover at a cost of $8,000. Pat also mailed to Dan a check for $1,000 each month, with a note enclosed with each payment. In each note, Pat asked Dan, "tell me what a fair commission is….I want to finalize our deal." Dan cashed the checks each month, but failed to respond to Pat's notes. Eleven months after moving into the home, Pat received the half-million dollar installment check. Pat immediately went to Dan with a check for $275,000 and asked Dan to convey the property to her according to their agreement. Dan refused to accept the check and ordered Pat to move out. If Pat brings an......

...Dear Dongmei, Thanks for your letter, and I’m happy to show you some my opinions. As far as I’m concerned, Rachel’s behavior is understandable. You know, more and more students participate in the student exchange programme, and their character, purpose and so on are different. We can’t think they’re same. In fact, everyone is different. So I think Rachel doesn’t choose integrate into Chinese culture more because of her personal reasons. Perhaps Rachel is too much shy or unconfident to communicate, or she regards Chinese as a subject, or she doesn’t have power to learn. One possibility is that she is too shy or unconfident to communicate. What’s known is that character has a great influence on people. For example, a shy person doesn’t like talk more with people who is strange. And an unconfident person usually doesn’t tell someone his idea. Besides you’re good friends. So I think maybe as a result of her character, Rachel choose not to integrate into Chinese culture. Another possibility is that she regards Chinese as a subject. In my view, if someone does a work which he has no choice, his efficiency and enthusiasm are lower than he does a work which is his favorite. If she regards Chinese as a subject, her aim possible is high grade but communicate better. So she has little enthusiasm after class and chooses not to take some activities related to local culture. Certainly, it may be because she has no power to learn. It’s known that power makes us to be better. When we do......

...Dear>>, In a few months you will be making one of the biggest adjustments of your life so far. Moving away from home, living on your own, and going to college are all very different and new experiences that you have never encountered. Everyone says college is the time of your life, and you need to make the most of it. I can remember being a Junior in high school thinking about how time was flying by, and I am now about to be a Junior in college. You will be faced with many decisions, some harder than others, and you will have to make many choices. My first big decision was to join Phi Mu. I was not sure I wanted to join a sorority initially, but after I went through the recruitment process I realized how it really was going to be a great opportunity for me. I am so happy with my decision, and I think you need to join a sorority too because I know you will love it as much as I do. I know you are a bit hesitant about joining a sorority because you still want to be friends with your high school friends. I also understand that you prioritize academic clubs over social fraternities. Furthermore, the idea of your grades dropping is also holding you back from participating in a sorority. Allison, I understand you are happy with all the friends you have now, and you do not think you need to meet anymore people. Based on my experience, those girls that have been friends with you since the first day you met in eighth grade will continue to be your friends whether you participate...
