Question 1.5: A sales forces manager needs to have information in order to decide whether to create a custom motivation program or purchase one offered by a consulting firm. What are the dilemmas the manger faces in selecting either of these alternatives?
With selecting either of the programs, the sales force manager can face dilemmas. Before deciding on any of the programs the manger must know the goals that he/she is looking to accomplish. After deciding on the goals the manager needs to decide between conducting the research individually or buying and using research for the consulting firm.
With the custom motivation program the manger can conduct his/her own research. With conducting the research the manager needs to look at the existing levels of motivation and see what enticements would need to be used to help the employees change to the desired motivation. The manager can look at information that has already been used. For instance a change in another part of the business could have an effect on the level of motivation that the employees have. If the enticements help increase the motivation of the employee then the custom motivation program will be good for the manger. If the custom motivation program fails then the consulting firm may be best.
With the consulting firm the manger will have to think about investing before making an agreement with the firm. The manger need to invest in a firm that will fall into the business budget. Going over budget can make things difficult for the business and the employees which would decrease the motivation. ...Facilitate/Preside Over Meetings • Chairmen are required to "chair," or facilitate and preside over, company board meetings. More specifically, a chairman is expected to determine the agenda of the meeting at hand, encourage discussion and participation from all directors and board members and relay pertinent information regarding current events within or pertaining to the company. A chairman is also expected to point issue discussions and debates toward a consensus stance, upon which the majority of the board agree, and which can therefore be acted upon for the expected benefit of the company or organization. Organizing The Board • For productive meetings to take place, the board in question needs to consist of an effective balance of members in regards to the board members' ages, work experience and personalities. This organizational or compositional process is ongoing; as a person carries on in their role of chairman, they will find that board members will either leave of their own volition or will need to be replaced. Additionally, a chairman needs to involve directors already on the board to mentor new directors who are new to their position. • Spokesperson/Representative • Depending on the company or organization, the scope and frequency of public relations duties for a chairman may range from practically nonexistent to major responsibility. The spokesperson responsibilities of a chairman generally involve relaying the mission statement of the company or......

...Name Course Professor Date Module 10 Forum World War 1 (WW1) had great impact on so many things. One major impact was the avenue it created for future wars and revolutions. This led to the cold war and World War 2. The WW1 led to the emancipation of women. Women now gained more right as compared to before the war. The World War 1 can also be stated to have led to the great depression. This is because the war cost billion of dollars and many countries that were involved either directly or indirectly were in debt and owed a lot of money. The other impact of the trench war was the fact that male dominance stopped being common and the patriarch ideals were also done away with as they become infamous. Male dominance became less famous as they had no careers after the war. Most of them could not get careers after the war as they had joined the army at a young age. The war had a great impact on the art especially the Russian revolution. Artist got new ideas and the themes of their paintings become one sided, most of the arts had revolution inspire themes. At this time, a group of artists emerged a good example of the groups was the Association of Russian Revolutionary Artist (ARRA). The ARRA got their themes from the Russian revolution. Sculptures and painting were created all showing the impact of the Russian revolution. For example, Lanser, an artist decorated the Moscow Railway station with paintings that demonstrated the work of the soviet construction. The Russian......

...In the play Everyman, death is personified and treated as an agent of God that goes to visit the plays protagonist, Everyman. The unknown author of the play uses Death as a character to present a very real truth that all people will meet death. Death is an antagonist in the play and represents physical death. The word "death" grabs people's attention because it is a strong word. It is a loaded, often offensive, intense word and it reflects a reality every human will one day have to realize. The author understands death's implications and uses it to draw the reader in. In the play Everyman, the character Death is presented by the author as an allegorical representation of physical death and the reader finds that Death is under God's control, brings conviction, and will visit everyone. In Everyman the character Death is viewed as submissive to God's will and under His command. Since the play is a morality play, the characteristics of Death are viewed as the same as a human's physical death. In the Literature Criticism from 1400 to 1800, the author brings to attention that "[t]he themes in Everyman are strongly reflected in the allegorical characters which populate the work." The play opens up with "[h]ere beginneth a treatise how the High Father of Heaven sendeth Death to summon every creature to come and give an account of their lives in this world, and is in manner of a moral play." In Everyman, Death is merely a carrier and transporter for God. From the beginning of the......

...Discussion Board Forum 1 Adrian R. Castaneda Liberty University BUSI 620 Global Economic Environment Dr. Virgil Mensah-Dartey October 24, 2013 DB FORUM 1 Question 3 Unethical behavior and unlawful behavior are different in a sense that unethical behavior violates integrity, while unlawful behavior violates established laws. When discussing unethical behavior in the business context, one should consider the overall focus of a business; maximize profits for shareholders and owners. The way a business operates to make money can be treated as ethical or unethical. An unethical type of practice in the business world can consist of a business that is determined to make a profit without considering the morale and comfort of their employees (Svensson & Wood, 2008). By failing to have happy employees in your business and over working them to make a profit can cause an ethical dilemma as the employee can see this type of business operation as a way of prioritizing profit over the employee morale. According to Thomas, Schermerhorn & Dienhart (2004) unlawful behavior is actions that breaks established laws or rules that control business practices. This type of behavior can be easier detected over unethical behavior because by violating unlawful behavior, the individual or individuals are violating written laws. For example, giving away insider trading information on a new medicine is a type of unlawful behavior in the business context. Businesses have written......

...Discussion Board Forum 2 Case Study Business Ethics Roger Charnock BUSI 561 Abstract Most people are committed to doing the right thing; however that is not always the case in business. Since the days of a formal handshake to close a deal, the contract has evolved into a complex process. Many years ago society believed in the power of the spoken word; thus the statement my word is my bond, however since the downfall of mankind in the garden mistrust and out right egregious acts to undermine the boundaries of right and wrong has become more prevalent, especially in business. Christians conducting business in this present business model have to protect themselves from individuals who are self-seeking and unscrupulous. This paper will look at one example of contracts, while maintaining your spirituality. Contracts “In the sweat of your face shall you eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you shall return” (Genesis 3:19 Amplified Bible). Since the days of Adam, society has tried to find an angle, something that will give them an advantage. While competition is good especially in the world of contracting, fair and reasonable is the oil that lubes the contracting wheel. Still this sense of right or wrong does not prevent poor contracts or unscrupulous dealings. The struggle for supremacy had its impetus with Cain and Abel. Jealousy and material gain will create irrational thoughts and entice someone to do...

...Introduction The nomination and election of a board of directors is a critical event for an organization. Selecting the right individuals to comprise the board that will provide adequate oversight and ensure alignment of management to that of shareholders and stakeholders best interests is vital to the success of the company. This paper explores how boards are formed, how individuals become part of boards, the type of individuals that should comprise a board, CEO duality and the advantages and disadvantages of having non-executive board members. How Boards are formed When forming a board of directors the c-suite should see the board and its members as a strategic partner rather than as a necessary requirement a corporation must have. The initial question that must be answered when considering forming a board of directors is what type of board does your organization need and select appropriate board leadership that meets the needs of your organization. In forming a board of directors many things must be taken into consideration such as the composition of the board, the number of board members, committee structure, roles and responsibilities, evaluation metrics for board performance and meeting frequency. Each of these elements will lead to the success of the board creating a strong platform for corporate governance. How do individuals become part of the Board of directors (Methods / Process)? In Canada upon incorporation of a company the......

...gender, automatically, in a normal person’s mind, they start creating all kinds of different ideas in their head on how this meeting went wrong. When you are dealing with class forums, you have to make sure to re read your post before you actually post it and be sensitive to everyone in every way possible. One of the things you can change, when talking in a forum page for classroom, is by not using the phrase, “good old boys”. That phrase is immediately looked upon by females in a bad way, instead you can refer to them as co-workers. If you say co-workers, you will not be offending anyone in any way, because it is not picking a certain gender. Another thing i would of changed is that you mentioned you would “recommend that any man who wants to advance in the business world should seriously consider brushing up on his etiquette”. Just by the word “man”, is automatically putting a gender role in the sentence and it can be looked upon in a wrong way. Lastly, another way you put a gender role on this situation is by saying you “used some of her tips at the company picnic later that month that all the managers and their wives attended”. You made it seem as there are no females attending this meeting with their husbands, therefore secluding the gender role once again. In the future when communicating on the class forums, you should definitely re read everything carefully before posting it. Double checking your work can never cause any harm to you, besides taking up a little more......

...Business Ethics After reading the case study involving Ms. Alexander and her opportunity with Next Step, I would advise Ramona to pray, even fast, about accepting the position. Hopefully she was already prayed up before she went to the ‘Meet and Great’ at Next Steps Headquarters (HQ). As Christians, we must ‘…be wise as serpents, but gentle as dove’s…' (Matthew 10:16, ESV), and one way we get wisdom is to be in constant communication with our one heavenly Father, whom is all knowing. Before leaving, she read up on Next Step. When Ms. Alexander arrived at Next Step’s HQ, she was showered with all sorts of gifts and treated to lunch by the Corporate Recruiter who told her of the circumstances that makes it possible for advancement and the money she could be earning with those advancements. Within Ms. Alexander’s research of the company, she found a mix of different opinions, regarding Next Step. One article, and interview with the CEO, has the CEO talking about how he wants to create a healthier America, making it seem that he truly loves and cares for the people. But, when Ms. Alexander was present at the companies pep rally at Next Step’s HQ, he seemed to be disrespectful and scornfully abusive to his clientele, calling them ‘fat, lazy, lethargic Americans’ who needs to be saved. Turning the spectacle into a religious one. The CEO also talked about being an industry leader in the ethics code in his interview. Ms. Alexander mention that to the corporate......

To facilitate this examination, a comparison of the values and purposes of the World Social Forum is contrasted with those of the World Economic Forum. The analysis concludes that, without individual and governmental input, corporate action cannot be relied upon to improve the state of the world. . World Forums Without a doubt, the values of the “haves and have not’s” has been in increasing, not only on a national scale, but also on a global scale. From ‘state house’ to ‘hut house’, it is obvious that today’s emphasis on ‘money at any costs’ has resulted in a perversion of the Golden Rule, resulting in “those who have the gold, make the rule”. Not only has this attitude resulted in an abandonment of values that underpin traditional American values of democracy, respect and value of differing cultures, it exacerbates a legacy of American and European colonialism on a global scale. This attitude is manifested in American and European government and corporate policies and actions that erode the principles of corporate social responsibility. World Social...
