THE PROBLEMA. IntroductionThe extent of student’s learning in academics may bedetermined by the grades a student earns for a period of learning has beendone. It is believed that a grade is a primary indicator of such learning. If alearner earns high grades it is concluded that they may also have learned alot while low grades indicate lesser learning. However, many experiences andstudies found out that there are also several factors that would account for thegrades. No single factor can be definitely pointed out as predicting grades. Ithas been an interplay of so many factors – gender, IQ, study habits, age, year level, parent’s educational attainment, social status, number of siblings, birthorder, etc. In fact, almost all of existing environmental and personal factorsare a variable of academic performance. However, at this point in time, theresearchers would like to investigate the possible relationship of study habitsand the factors affecting it to the academic achievement of under graduateeducation students of Xavier University-…...

Late night is normally quiet and you are unlikely to be disturbed by anyone. Besides you have longer hours to review all your notes and works unlike the dawn when you will have to race against time. A thorough review at night will help you remember the whole thing you have learnt while the hesitant studying at the dawn is highly prone to forgetting. This is true for a particular group of people. This is entirely against the theory of “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy wealthy and wise”. Waking up the whole night to study for exams is sure to affect your health. Late night study is less productive as the mind loses concentration late at night. Lack of sleep affects your daily life. It weakens the strength of the students and you can lose focus during the examination. It will also lead to serious memory impairment, thus making no use of the hard work and study. Research has suggested that sleep and good memory are bed fellows. Burning midnight oil harms more than it serves. However, there is not much research, particularly in a local setting, showing focus on the relationship between study time allocation and academic achievement more specifically among fourth year and fifth year engineering and architecture students. It has been observed that among engineering and architecture students, spending much time in studying is not a common practice, or at the very least, is not admitted.
