Communication and Crisis

Introduction Being the director of a regional Emergency Management Office during a crisis I will have to have control. Without control the crisis will turn into a catastrophe. With an effective contingency plan in place this will help me to stay in control of the situation. I will also have alternate plans put in place just in case my key plans do not happen as expected. It will take everyone involved inside and outside of the Emergency Management Office working together to make sure the crisis is worked through and that the public remains calm.
Individuals or Groups That Will Be Communicating Inside and Outside the Organization during the Crisis Anyone who communicates inside and outside the organization should be key to the crisis. There should be one person assigned to each role in my crisis communication team. In a large crisis there might be a need to go outside of my main office for support from volunteers or a nearby college [ (Services, 2006) ]. The people inside the communication team will consist of the public information officer, content and messages coordinator, media coordinator, direct public outreach coordinator, partner coordinator, and the rumor control coordinator. Each one on these will have a role to follow. The public information officer will activate the risk communication plan and direct the work related to the release of information [ (Services, 2006) ]. The content and messages coordinator will make sure the information is received from the Emergency Operations Center about the public health emergency and will also work with the subject matter experts to create information fact sheets and updates [ (Services, 2006) ]. ...An Effective Leader Being an effective leader means different things to different people. While researching this topic, I found that lots of the articles about effective leaders include some of the same key factors. According to Hill, “Some say great leaders are born, not made. And while there are some born leaders, many more have honed their leadership skills through extensive practice (Hill, 2009, p. 1).” I, personally, agree with that statement. I think that some leaders are born that way, but most people that are leaders are trained and taught to be that way. Leadership success always starts with vision. One of the main forms of survival is employment. When one is employed, one must go through communication, as well as paying attention to detail. ...We have all heard of different types of diets in fitness magazines, weight loss books, and television commercials, but which diets have been researched and been proven to be effective for weight loss? Two of the most popular diets are a low carbohydrate diet and a low calorie diet. A low carbohydrate diet removes almost all carbohydrates from one’s diet. Carbohydrates are a macronutrient that provide the body with energy. A low calorie diet lowers the amount of calories in one’s diet by lowering the amount of fats and the total amount of daily calories a person takes in. Low carbohydrate diets and low calorie diets are effective for weight loss but can be difficult to follow. Random, controlled studies show that both low carbohydrate diets and low calorie diets are effective for weight. In all of these studies participants were randomly assigned to either a low carbohydrate diet or a low calorie diet. Studies done by the New England Journal of Medicine have shown that low carbohydrate diets are more effective for weight loss in the first three months of following the diet than compared to low calorie diet (Foster & Wyatt, 2010). However, after twelve months, studies show that both groups of people that were being studied all lost weight. A study done by the New England Journal of Medicine shows that the low carbohydrate group lost an average of 12.76 pounds of body weight after six months, while the group on low calorie diets lost an average of 4.18 pounds of body weight......

However, an effective ad needs to use the correct techniques and tactics appropriate for their intended target market, in order to successfully achieve their campaign’s advertising objectives. The following essay will analyse two print adverts, one that is effective, and one that is not. The first ad that I found to be quite clever, and as a result effective was one for Lynx’s ‘Lynxjet’ Deodorant Spray. The second ad that will be discussed, which I found to be not so effective, was an ad for Clinique’s ‘Repairwear Laser Focus’ Anti-wrinkle serum. The two ads will be assessed and compared in regards to what tactics they used to try and convey their key advertising objectives in order to reach their target audience successfully. The Lynxjet ad is very entertaining, humorous, but overall subtle. The theme to the product campaign is the ‘Mile High Club’, where sexy stewardesses on the ‘Lynxjet’ airline are pampering the male passengers; giving them massages, spa treatments and other sorts of pleasure at their service.
