Job Satisfaction Among Business Education Students

...CHAPTER ONE Introduction 1.1 Background of the Study For the last few decades job satisfaction has been one of the most popular interests among scientists, researchers and practitioners. According to Spector job satisfaction is the most frequently studied variable in organization research. Job satisfaction was proved too be an important construct in emotional and psychological employees’ well being. It is a significant element related to good organizational functioning as well. Although, the phenomenon of job satisfaction has been broadly researched, still there are several problematic areas. First of all, the concept of job satisfaction has been described in various ways by a number of researchers. Lawler states that “overall job satisfaction is determined by the difference between all those things a person feels he should received from his job and all those things he actually does receive”. Locke defines job satisfaction as “the pleasurable emotional state resulting from the appraisal of one’s job as achieving or facilitating the achievement of one’s job values. Spector describes job satisfaction as “the extent to which people like (satisfaction) or dislike (dissatisfaction) their jobs”. Apart of those few definitions indicated above, there are many others that aim to explain the concept of the satisfaction. The lack of consensus which appears in defining the concept may lead to misunderstanding among researchers and research participants and may influence the......

Abstract Higher education institutions in Vietnam have put much effort to attract students to enroll in programs using English as a means of teaching because these programs have newly been introduced in Vietnam and tuition fees are usually about five/six times higher than those in Vietnamese. Hence, student satisfaction plays a very important role in these institutions. This research aims to examine the effect of students’ perceived service quality and the students’ perceived price fairness on student satisfaction. The results show that various dimensions in perceived service quality and perceived price fairness have positive impacts on student satisfaction. It also shows that when perceived price fairness is taken into account, the variation in student satisfaction is better explained by comparison with the original Parasuraman’s SERVQUAL model. This research can be useful not only for existing higher education institutions in Vietnam but also for foreign universities planning to enter Vietnam’s education sector. ...Academic Factors Affecting Student Satisfaction at the University of Buckingham. Introduction The University of Buckingham is the only independent University in the United Kingdom. Many studies have acknowledged the benefits of the private universities compare to public universities. Private universities are more customized: small classes, strong relationship between students and lecturers. Frankly speaking, service quality and student satisfaction is significantly higher in private universities. Intensifying competition and more demanding customers have led universities to identify what is important for students. Furthermore, higher education is recognized as a service industry and it should deliver a high service quality, meet the expectations and needs of students (Cheng and Tam 1997). Given that relevant research on academic factors affecting student satisfaction is limited, the purpose of this study is to identify the level of student satisfaction at the University of Buckingham in correlation with the academic factors with the following research questions being addressed: 1. Does academic factors (high standard of teaching with quality lecturers, course availability, course content, academic advising, variety of courses and class sizes) influence the level of Student Satisfaction at the University of Buckingham? 2. What are factors that have the highest impact on the level of student satisfaction at the University of Buckingham? 3. Does......

Social Status, Binge Drinking, and Social Satisfaction Among College Students

...T. Andrew Barefield 1602 Prof. Charles Henley ENGL2989-020 26 June 2013 “Social Status, Binge Drinking, and Social Satisfaction among College Students”: As Reported by ABC News, TYT University, and Reddit A paper presented by the American Sociological Association (ASA), entitled “Social Status, Binge Drinking, and Social Satisfaction among College Students,” caused quite a stir when it was released in August of last year. It’s findings were that undergraduate students “who report binge drinking also report being happier than their non-binge drinking peers” (Chao). Although many news outlets, chat rooms, forums, YouTube channels, et cetera covered the topic, ABC News, TYT University, and Reddit cover the same material in vastly different ways. ABC News’ slogan, “See The Whole Picture,” shows them as middle of the road or typically non-biased. TYT University is a spin-off of The Young Turks, a progressive political commentary YouTube news show, which is a primarily college-oriented show covering topics from academics and study tips to relationships and drinking. Reddit, often seen stylized as simply reddit (no capital ‘R’), is a social and entertainment website covering every topic imaginable with all information being provided by Reddit users, sometimes referred to as a worldwide bulletin board, then commented and collaborated on by their peers, known as redditors. The ABC News article was posted August 20th, 2012, the day that the paper was presented by the......

A Comparison of Students’ Performance, Students’ and Instructors’ Satisfaction in Online Versus Face-to-Face Methods of Instruction

...online to cut cost in the use of classrooms. It also enables students who live away from college and university campuses to access learning opportunities. This stirred more interest to researchers regarding the affects of OLC on teaching and learning. Results vary widely; some conclude that face-to-face interaction is more natural and direct while others assert that online learning and blended learning have just as many positive affects on students. Researcher David K. Larson performed a three-way comparison of face-to-face versus blended online versus purely online delivery of a Management Information Systems (MIS) course. Larson (2011) studied examination and final grades as well as measured the students’ satisfaction and learning effectiveness. The students were enrolled in the MIS class, which was a requirement for Business and Management majors. Out of the 168 students, the majority of online learners were female. Larson concluded that there is no significant difference in the students’ performance as far as examination scores between the different modes of delivery. Larson also concluded that learning effectiveness and faculty satisfaction favours both the blended and online methods, rather than the face-to-face method. Another important observation Larson made is regardless of the mode of delivery, 40 percent of the students reported an increase in interest in the subject. Larson believes that students adapt to whatever mode is available to them and suggests......

...immaterial reality an inner path enabling a person to discover the essence of his/her being; or the “deepest values and meanings by which people live.” Educational needs, on the other hand are those that has something to do with their attitudes and technique in studying the subjects of the said profession. This education comes from the professors, parents and all the people that surround us. Special education is the education of students with special needs in a way that addresses the students' individual differences and needs. Ideally, this process involves the individually planned and systematically monitored arrangement of teaching procedures, adapted equipment and materials, accessible settings, and other interventions designed to help learners with special needs achieve a higher level of personal self-sufficiency and success in school and community than would be available if the student were only given access to a typical classroom education. Spiritual and educational needs are some of the factors of satisfying the mechanical engineering students in Lyceum of the Philippines University. ...browser how to present the text. However, whereas HTML tags are fixed and organize the appearance of text, XML tags can be defined by the programmer and thus can be used to organize content. This ability to organize content makes XML ideal for organizing the data of a book (title, author, chapters, appendices, etc.). The XML file of the book can be easily converted to the various Ebook and Print on Demand file formats, which also are based on XML. The Use of New Technologies in Academic Books These new technologies are having an impact on the market for academic text books in the United States. In the United States professors generally assign texts the students have to buy. In addition, many professos, especially for advanced courses, assign a reading packet consisting of photocopies of chapters of various books. Thus students are purchasing “partial” titles. This practice has been common for a long time and during the 1980’s publishers sued Kinkos, the largest chain of photocopy shop in the United States, to obtain payment for the rights to photocopy portions of their titles. Print on Demand is ideally suited for these reading packets. Reading packets are starting to be produced using Print on Demand technology. Ebooks have not been adopted as fast. ...
