Animal’s perspective:
“Wake up, wake up, we have to go for a walk”, I had just fallen asleep, when she woke me up once again. She always tended to wake me up whenever it suited her, and it bothered me that I could not get the sleep I needed. I got up before she would call my name, stretched my four long legs and quietly growled at her.
I could tell by the long drive, the honking cars and the sound of baby strollers that we were going somewhere I love. For my convenience, we were going for a walk in the park. My absolute favorite place to go. I had always loved this place because of the many different smells, the other dogs and the ducks in the fountain, which I love to play with. Just as she let me out of the car I ran straight to the opening of the park, and exactly as I thought I had left her behind, something pulled my neck and I remembered that she had put the collar and dog leash on me right before we left the house. Stupid, stupid, stupid collar and leash, it caused me trouble every time and I hated wearing the collar. It is pink, with diamonds on it, because my owner thinks that I am a princess, but she does not know me at all. Princess is the last thing I am, I love making trouble, carelessly rolling around in different kinds of dropping and barking at kids, so that they get scared, and that is not very similar to a princess. My owner always apologizes to the small kids, and as an excuse, she says that I’m scared of them, but she doesn’t know the truth, and I don’t think, that she ever…...

This market is, due to its fast growth and continuous technological change, highly competitive, which requires companies to be ever more careful in choosing which projects to pursue and how to finance these projects. In this order of thought, Flash Memory currently holds an investment opportunity and, in case they decide to undertake the project, need to decide on the optimal way of financing it. In order to state if the company should invest in the new project we analyzed what impact the project would have on the company’s value. Following the analyses it is clear that the company should undertake the project regardless the way it is financed, since it is a positive net present value and will, therefore, create value for the company. Besides, the company would be undermining its current......

...have already given up the tradition of the lottery. But for them tradition was sacred and the lottery had run its course until the following year. While in “The Rocking-Horse Winner” Paul was just trying to help his mother continue to have her way of living, he knew having more money would allow for this to happen. Paul’s mother lived above her means, and even after Paul had given her five thousand pounds it wasn’t enough. In the end Paul died trying to help his mother live as traditional as she had all his life. In conclusion both stories involved tradition, a way of life and in the end it all ended with the death of a character. References: D.H. Lawrence. “The Rocking-Horse Winner”. Flash Crashes

...Why do flash crashes happen In May 2010, the stock market lost and regained almost 10% of its value within minutes. This behavior suggests that the markets are unhealthy. Markets are generally considered to accurately determine the underlying value of assets in the real world. During a flash crash, the price is determined by the dynamics of the market rather than by real-world value. Fig. 1 Fig. 2 Fig. 3 Flash crashes can be understood by looking at how trades occur in the market. Figure 1 shows the standing buy and sell orders ("limit orders") at a particular time in the market. Each order is shown at the price it is offered. The shape of the buy order curve shows that at lower prices, traders want to buy more shares. But there are no orders at very low prices because nobody expects the price to drop that far. The reverse is true for sell orders: the number of orders increases as we go to higher prices and then disappears at still higher prices. In Figure 1, no trading would occur because there is no price with both a buy order and a sell order. Trades happen when someone enters an order to buy or sell at the current market price (a "market order"). Figure 2 shows the order book after a market sell order. The seller's shares go to the traders with the highest-priced standing buy orders. The executed buy orders disappear from the order book. The price drops to where the trade was executed. This is how selling a stock decreases its price. From this we can......

Blending Fiction and Non Fiction

...Name Professor Subject Date Blending Fiction and Non Fiction The Repossession Mambo is an interesting book based on fiction. The book itself is entertaining, highlighting a harsh reality that may be possible in the future. In this book, a person can live virtually forever with the help of artificial organs (artiforgs). These artiforgs are sold by a large corporation named the Credit Union and they are extremely expensive. While almost anyone with credit can qualify for these expensive parts, once a person falls behind 90 days on their payments, the Credit Union will send a “courteous” repo man to take back their property. This may sound farfetched in today’s world, but the truth is that this book has a hint of truth that may be alarming to the public. The Repossession Mambo might seem to focus solely on health care, but the book also symbolizes corporate greed that uses the credit industry to extend credit to poor individuals that know they won’t be able to repay. Some examples of realities today that closely resemble the book are: the tobacco industry, the credit industry, and most definitely the current health care industry. In the book The Repossession Mambo, the Credit Union sells artificial organs to people who can’t afford them, but who need them. They claim that the person owes it to their family to stay alive. While the Union is keeping the person alive by financing the artiforgs, they are also slowly killing them because the individual can’t afford the parts....

Flash Memory

...Flash Memory The forecast income statement (Exhibit 1) shows the profit projections for Flash Memory assuming they do not invest in the new product line. In summary, they maintain their 2009 Operating Margin of 5.5%. Net Income increases from $2,509 in 2009 to $4,096 by 2012 (a 17.8% CAGR over the three year period). All assumptions were provided in the case, but we did assume a reduction in the interest rate back to the 7.25% for the current loan in 2012, when the Notes Payable to Accounts Receivable ratio falls back below the 70% threshold. One concern not discussed in the case is the relative growth of Flash Memory vs. the SSD category. Based on the information provided, we estimate Flash’s share of the market at 15% in 2007 which rapidly declines to an estimated 2% by 2013. This underscores Flash Memory’s need to accelerate top line growth to remain a significant player in the market. The forecast balance sheet (Exhibit 2) shows the account balances for Flash Memory assuming they do not invest in the new product line. The financing requirements in 2010, 2011 and 2012 are $14,433, $17,120 and $13,228 respectively. This increase in debt levels has changed the capital structure of the firm over time, increasing debt as a percentage of capital from 28% in 2007 to as high as 39% by 2011 (vs. a target of 18%). We calculated WACC for both scenarios - funding by increasing notes payable or by the issuance of stock. For the notes funding, we assumed a 9.25% cost of...

...Importance of Fiction in Our Lives; Fact or Fiction Why? Why read fiction? What impact does reading fiction have on our lives? Many people read and enjoy fiction as they find that fiction creates a simulation of another person’s life. Many read fiction as an escape from their own lives. Many read to learn valuable life lessons. Many read simply to relax. In a recent study performed by Emory University in Atlanta researchers found that reading a fiction novel heightened connectivity in the left temporal cortex and in the central sulcus. Each are areas within the brain respectively responsible for receptivity for language and motor sensory. These heightened levels were not only seen the morning after each reading but also five days after the novel was completed. Through reading fiction it is clear that it develops imagination, perseverance, teaches morality in life and brings together societies. First of all, reading fiction helps to formulate imagination in the lives of humans. There have been studies performed showing that an increased imagination also leads to being more creative. This is also noted by one of the great minds of the 20th century Albert Einstein who says, “Imagination is more important than knowledge,” this is also seen in the classic novel Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson, Harold is a curious boy who creates his environment with his purple crayon. One day Harold goes for a walk with his purple crayon with which he is able to create......

...Perrin took a step back, keeping well in the light. "I don't think so." "At least have a drink with me. To years past and years to come. Here, you will see things more clearly after." The cup the man pushed across the table had not been there a moment before. It shone bright silver, and dark, blood-red wine filled it to the brim. Perrin peered at the man's face. Even to his sharp eyes, the shadows seemed to shroud the other man's features like a Warder's cloak. Darkness molded the man like a caress. There was something about the man's eyes, something he thought he could remember if he tried hard enough. The murmur returned. "No," he said. He spoke to the soft sound inside his head, but when the man's mouth tightened in anger, a flash of rage suppressed as soon as begun, he decided it would do for the wine as well. "I am not thirsty." He turned and started for the door. The fireplace was rounded river stones; a few 32 long tables lined by benches filled the room. He suddenly wanted to be outside, anywhere away from this man. "You will not have many chances," the man said behind him in a hard voice. "Three threads woven together share one another's doom. When one is cut, all are. Fate can kill you, if it does not do worse." Perrin felt a sudden heat against his back, rising then fading just as quickly, as if the doors of a huge smelting furnace had swung open and closed again. Startled, he turned back to the room. It was empty. Only a dream, he thought,......

...fiction It all started so simple, we were lovers who had it all. Sure, like most relationships there were ups and downs but I could have never imagined this is where it would end up. I wake up tied to a bed. ‘Kinky’ I say to myself. But then the memories of last night all start to flood into my mind. This is not a scene from 50 shades of Grey, but I, in fact am actually being held prisoner by the man I thought I had loved. Instantly my body is over come with fear and adrenaline. I resist the urge to scream for anyone that could possibly hear me, because I didn't want him to know I was awake until I had fully understood what had happened. Glancing around the room, I realize that I am back at my old house, where I spent most of my elementary and high school years. The wave of familiarity almost knocks me out. I haven't been in this house for nearly 10 years. The chipped purple walls, the old and outdated furniture, all reminding me of the happiness and joy I had here. Its funny, I used to come up here everyday after school and stare out the window…picturing the perfect textbook life. A successful career, a big house, a loving relationship, a family, and lets be real, a ridiculous amount of dogs. Corgis, if we’re getting specific. I felt as though I had finally achieved all of my life goals when we met. It was something for movies. We were so happy and caring, and I was genuinely comfortable with the idea of us spending the rest of our lives together. Now look...

Flash Memory

...Ernesto Trejo 817268979 Finance 423 Tuesday & Thursday 2pm Flash Memory, Inc. Strategy Paper 1 For this company of Flash Memory Inc., there are a couple of problems the CFO must face. This company that is in the computer and electronic device market within the memory industry faces a problem with a growth rate within their company that is in result to the growing rate of the market and a result to constantly changing technologies. The other problem the company faces is the probability of accepting or rejecting an investment decision that it is faced with, that promises returns over five years, but not being able to obtain a loan from a bank. To further analyze the situation appropriately I would follow the following evaluation. Firstly Flash Memory Company must consider just how they will choose to raise funds for their possible investment, with their projected growth rate over the years they for saw a fast growing segment in market. Unfortunately they cannot issue out a loan from the bank, therefore they must come up with the sufficient funds from within. The options that they have is to either issue a form of securities to sell to the public or to contain retained earnings and reinvest into this new project line. In order to determine which is to be used they need to calculate the NPV of the future investment before they can determine how to invest in it. But the problem with Flash is that their sales are so high that more working capital is needed for the......

Flash Memory

...Strategy Sheet, Flash memory First of all, According to Exhibit 1, 2, 3 and necessary information from background, you can forecast Income Statement and Balance sheet for the end of 2010, 2011 and 2012 if Flash Memory Inc does not plan to accept the new product line . Based on the forecast notes payables at the end of year 2010, 2011 and 2012, the external financing for each year is the differences between note payable at the end of current year and note payable at the end of former year. So, you can have a rough numbers for each year's external financing. Assuming all required external financing takes the form of additional notes payable from its commercial bank, then, you can figure out whether or not Flash Memory Inc can maintain the continued growth for each year because all the growth information and data can be found and calculated according to Growth Projections. However, If Flash Memory Inc cannot meet the requirement established by the bank who claims that the existing loan has 70 percents of accounts receivable limit, other alternatives should be used to fund external financing. Second, you need to decide whether or not Flash Memory Inc should accept the proposed investments in the new product line. Thus, you should find the NPV for this investments and 3 steps should be followed. The first step is that you have to figure out the free cash flows for 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 according to the information in investment opportunity. The second step is that......
