...Four Seasons I chose Four Seasons for my term project because this is my dream employer, ranking in Top 100 Employers to Work For by Fortune magazine. With their long-historical success, global dominance, and impressive business philosophies, I believe Four Seasons is a very interesting company. While having a strong brand and powerful strategy tools, there is always room for improvements. Four Seasons target markets are mostly luxury travellers, families, high-class events, and business travellers. Their hotels and resorts attract customers with their luxuriousness and reputation. Four Seasons successfully built an internationally recognizable brand to be a hospitality world leader. In the recent years, they developed a policy on “Supporting Sustainability”. They bring the idea of protecting the environment into a new defining core value. The problem is how to bring sustainability and the increased revenue and marketing opportunities that it offers to all areas of their enterprise. This will cut down some of their operational costs, it will also drives the content of their social media marketing, and eventually will drive new business. At the same time, focusing on social media is one of the most advantage steps they can continuously focus on. Four Seasons Hotel Toronto successfully launched a virtual platform to highlight its food and beverage properties and drive consumer traffic as well as increase awareness. I believe if they can combine their Supporting......

Four Strateges

...Liebert & Spiegler’s text on the four strategies of personality for me was an interesting journey through the minds of some of the greatest thinkers of all time. Personality makes us who we are. I’ve learned that it guides me in how I make my life decisions and that I carry my personality into every situation. The type of personality you develop through the stages of life can adversely or positively affect your current life situation. In reading the chapter on the Dispositional Strategy I felt the authors were successful in relaying the information in such a way that made it easy to understand. The question that arose in my mind was is my personality made up from the gene pools of my parents and already predisposed or does it develop over time? For example, the idea of saying African-Americans are lazy or Jewish people are cheap, Italians are hot-headed, is a label that was placed on groups of people many decades ago and does not give a person the proper insight into one individual’s personality. I did not agree with the connection of describing groups of people by nationality or race in dispositional terms. After reading through the sections and doing some more research I have come to my own assessment that our personalities develop over time as we grow and are exposed to new experiences throughout our childhood. We start to develop our likes and dislikes, and I think that falls in line with the Freudian theory Freud’s theory on the Id and pleasure......

...Case 1 : Four Seasons in Paris 1. What has made Four Seasons successful over the last 30 years? Several reasons have made Four Seasons (FS) successful: - The guarantee for the guests to receive a high-quality and consistently exceptional personal service is part of FS’s distinguishing edge. One of the most important elements of this success is the ability of employees to provide customers with an intelligent truly personalized service and to anticipate the guests’ needs. - FS has defined worldwide core operating standards. The respect of those standards is the guarantee that, all over the world, in any FS hotel, customers will be offered the highest quality. Furthermore, these standards help to shape relationship between people, and those relationships contribute to building the corporate culture. - Besides the definition of globalized standards, FS emphasizes the importance of cultural diversity. Adaptability to local culture and environment is a key to success. Each hotel is representative of its location and has its own style. When they stay in a FS hotel, guests immediately know in which country they are staying. FS is promoted in a very positive manner: it is a guarantee of quality but the brand does not rigidly define the product. - The regional management structure is a key component of FS’s ability to deliver and maintain the highest and most consistent service. In each FS property, a general manager supervises the day-to-day operations. Every morning the top......

Four Loko

...How much of the problem is due to the high levels of caffeine, how much is due to the labeling and marketing and how much is caused by irresponsible behavior on the part of young drinkers? Are companies like Joose and Four Loko being singled out for social problem that are much wider in scope, in particular, alcohol abuse by young people? Yes, Joose and Four Loko as dangerous as the critics maintain. Mixing Alcohol and energy drinks can prove to be very dangerous as the affects of the caffeine mask the affects of alcohol; trying to fool someone into thinking they’re not as drunk as they really are. As a result the person will continue drinking, which can lead to alcohol poisoning. Therefore I do believe the drinks are as dangerous as the critics claim.  The problem due to high level of caffeine is mixing alcohol with caffeine, has been linked to excessive consumption and alcohol poisoning, irresponsible behavior and drunk driving. There are growing number of student who are intoxicated and other young people are landing in hospital emergency rooms, some with serious alcohol positioning due to consume Joose and Four Loko. For example, the New Jersey student who showed up in a local hospital with a blood alcohol level of 0.4 after drinking three cans of Four Loko and several shots of tequila in an hour where the student had a legal limit for driving a car at least 4 times. The problem due to labeling and marketing is where the product made of fruit flavors and package in......

Four Functions

...Four Functions of Management Quashawna Bond BSHS November 30, 2010 Paige Cooke When many hear the word “management” they often think in relation to the workplace. However, management can take place in the presence of your own home; by delegating specific chores to family members and ensuring that they are carried out as planned. Management is defined as the acts of getting people together to accomplish desired goals and objectives efficiently and effectively. In order for any organization to run properly, calls for the development of management concepts; the basic four that will be addressed is planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. I believe that each function is of equal importance; however, planning serves as the basis of management. All other functions are built around the planning process. I think of planning as an act of formulating a program for a definite course of action; in which calls for the determination and implementation of a course of action to obtain goals and objectives of an organization. Planning requires management to evaluate where the company is currently, and where it would like to be in the future ( n.d. ). I’ve learned overtime that planning is a never ending process within an organization. Take my organization for example, I serve as a director of a daycare facility; I am always modifying...

Four Functions

...Management is a process in which working people use resources to accomplish an organizational goal. Management requires solving problems through creativity. Effectiveness and efficiency are good qualities that allow managers to be effective. Regardless of the size or what level a business functions, effective managers who practice the four functions of management (planning, organizing, leading, and controlling) will achieve company goals with the minimal waste of resources and accomplish the task in a timely manner. The first function in management is planning. Planning is stating, which goals need to be achieved and deciding the appropriate actions in advance to achieve those goals. An individual, work unit, or group of people within an organization may do the planning. Planning includes several stages such as analyzing current situations, anticipating the future, deciding on activities, strategies, and determining resources needed. Preparation for unexpected issues is necessary for the success of planning any task. The person/persons planning the task need to keep communication open and work together in a manner that will provide the best quality outcome. Organizing is the function of assembling and coordinating resources needed to achieve goals. Some activities include attracting people to the organization, assigning job responsibilities, grouping tasks, and creating conditions that allow employees to work together to achieve success. Managers have the responsibility...

Final Four

...Jamal Johnson Final Four I have had a lot of special events happen in my life. Some events are more important than others but all the same each event has a significant meaning. Basketball is my favorite thing to do, it always has been, and all my life, well since I can remember I have always played the game, it was one of the first thing I picked up as a child. As I got older I started to compete and every game I played I tried to be the best player on the court. As I got older I started to gain a reputation as being a good player especially once I got to high school. I went Andress high school, in the city of El Paso, Texas. Located right next to the border of Mexico. The city of El Paso is one of those cities that constantly gets looked over on athletically. Schools in the inner cities, like Dallas and Houston looked at us as if we weren’t able to play the game on the same level as they did because of where we are from. My senior year we were able to finally break the cycle. We became the first team in our city to make it to the state tournament. We fell short in the final four but we still changed a lot of people’s thoughts when it came to how my school competed. Just being a part of a team that changed history of my city. Many of my teammates were sad that we had lost, but I knew after the game I had played my heart out. I was proud that my team was even able to make it that fair of course I had wished we had one but I left that game without any regrets, because I......

Four Seasons

...2003 ROGER HALLOWELL DAVID BOWEN CARIN-ISABEL KNOOP Four Seasons Goes to Paris: “53 Properties, 24 Countries, 1 Philosophy” Europe is different from North America, and Paris is very different. I did not say difficult. I said different. — A senior Four Seasons manager In 2002, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts was arguably the world’s leading operator of luxury hotels, managing 53 properties in 24 countries and delivering what observers called “consistently exceptional service.” For Four Seasons, that meant providing high-quality, truly personalized service to enable guests to maximize the value of their time, however the guest defined doing so. In 1999, Four Seasons opened the Four Seasons Hotel George V Paris (hereafter, “F. S. George V”), its first French property, by renovating and operating the Hotel George V, a historic Parisian landmark. Doing so was, according to John Young, executive vice president, human resources, “one of our great challenges and triumphs.” Young mused on what Four Seasons had learned from opening a hotel in France, wondering what lessons would be applicable to other openings given the firm’s growth plans, which suggested that new opportunities would be largely outside North America. (Exhibit 1 illustrates property locations in 2002.) Performance Four Seasons generally operated (as opposed to owned) midsized luxury hotels and resorts. From 1996 through 2000 (inclusive), Four Seasons revenues increased at a compound rate of......

The Four C's

...Humans have a unique advantage compared to any other species in the world, and that benefit is teamwork. Everything that we see today in society is a direct or indirect result of some level of teamwork. From the cars we drive, to the doors we open, to the elevators we ride to the 100th floor of the freedom tower, were built using teamwork. The main focal point of teamwork can be described in four words I will refer to as the four c’s. One of the most important c-words is communication. Almost everything man-made takes deep and complex communication known as language. The ability to take a thought from your head and relay that exact thought to someone else is done quite easily with language. Although the origin of language has been widely debated, the importance of it has not. All experts agree language has single-handedly set us apart from any other animal in the known universe. Many societies throughout history believed that language is the gift of the gods to humans. The most familiar is found in Genesis 2:20, which tells us that Adam gave names to all living creatures. This belief predicates that humans were created from the start with an innate capacity to use language (The Origin of Language, Edward Vajada). Communication goes further than language. One of the revolutionary ways humans have to communicate is telegraphically. Phones, mail, e-mail, text, satellites, television, all are superior ways we as the dominant species have to communicate to one......

Four Functions

...There are four functions of managment which are planning, organizing, leading and controlling. Managers use these functions everyday in order to maintain balance within the work place. It is said that the functions must be performed efficiently for the success of ones business. All of these functions together are call the management process. Planning is a important part of management it actually is the first and base part of the process. With planning understanding where the company is trying to go with its goals and depending on how big the manangment is some stategies may get completely changed or modified. The business in which I work has a lot to do with planning ahead of time. You have to know what the consumer is going to be looking for and whats in and whats not. My business is selling Nikes and Jordans in which everyone has there own taste, but planning out the right product to bring in the building is a big deal. My job has plenty of examples of planning that we use like marketing planning, project planning, and sales planning. Organizing happend to be an very good function to a certain person within an organization. To be an effective manager organizing must become an very important role in duty as a manager. As a manager you have to know how to organize not only all your duties such as paper work and cleaning, but also you have to know how to manage the people you have with in your company. With people you have to know their strengths adn weaknesses......

Essay Four

...ESSAY FOUR When someone asks for a list of the most dangerous dog breeds the first breeds that might come to mind would be the pit-bull, maybe the Rottweiler or Doberman. Those would be incorrect however. Believe it or not, there are more bites by lap dogs like the Shitsu, Yorkie than there are by some incorrectly labeled "aggressive" breeds. In studies the giant schnauzer took first place with the most incidents of bites followed closely by the Akita and Chow. As a general whole however we must remember that it is socialization, breeding and training that sculpt of a dog and its likelihood of incident rather than breed alone. I am dye hard animal lover especially for Pit-bulls and Bullmastiff breed. I cry when I see ASPCA television commercials. Having a three year old little girl and having a love for such big breed like the Mastiff and misunderstood pit-bull choosing the right breed to be around your children is very important. The question really is “What is the best dog for kids?” This is a common question, but there is no solid answer. In theory, almost any dog has the potential to get along great with children. One can speculate about which breeds “might” be best for kids, but you just never know how each individual dog will turn out. There are many factors that affect a dog’s ability to get along well with kids. Here are several things that you will need to keep in mind before you get a family dog. Obedience training is absolutely essential! Make sure someone......

Four Perspectives

...Principles of Sociology // SOCI10143_SPR08 Portfolio Assignment April 11, 2008 The Four Perspectives There are four perspectives in the field of sociology. These four perspectives are symbolic interactionism, functionalism, conflict theory, and feminist theory. When evaluating a social problem, sociologists will typically use the theory which best relates to the problem. However, some sociologists may never favor a certain theory. Symbolic interactionism is a theoretical perspective in which society is viewed as composed of symbols that people use to establish meaning, develop their views of the world, and communicates with one another. Symbolic interactionism can be traced back to the eighteenth century when individuals evaluated their own conduct by comparing themselves with others, and using symbols to understand their own experiences. Symbolic interactionism relates with just about every aspect of a society. Without these symbols, we would not know who parents, aunts, uncles, etc are because those are just symbols to show relationship. There would not be movies, bridges, instruments, anything that requires a plan, a symbol of how it will turn out. These symbols also affect the behaviors of a society and how people act. The society would not know who to respect, who to obey, who to love because people would not have any symbol to classify their status in society. Functionalism, also known as functional analysis and structural functionalism, is a......

Four Models

...Four Models of Leadership Lisa S. Patrick University of Phoenix Four Leadership Models There are theories that suggest characteristics, behaviors and relationships that inspire and create effective leaders and followers within organizations. The Trait Leadership Model, Behavior Leadership Model, Situational Leadership Model, and Charismatic Leadership Model provide assumptions built on theories from approaches that incorporate characteristics, leader behaviors, outcomes affected by situations and how leader relationships inspire change in an organization. Differences and similarities exist among these approaches and may address some of the contemporary leadership and challenges in organizations. Trait Leadership Model The Trait Model examined specific traits researchers believed were associated with leadership and focused on the innate characteristics that make good leaders. This body of research included theories that “leaders were born and not made” (Clawson, 2006, p. 379) in the “Great Man” Theory of Leadership. Kouzes (2003) believes that to view a few men and woman as innate greatness is wrong and that heroes do exists in organizations. Other Theorists like Stogdill’s Leadership Traits, Maccobys Leader, and John Gardner’s Leaders noted characteristics believed to make great leaders. Stogdill believed leaders were strong, task-oriented, confident, handled stress, and accepted responsibility for actions were qualities of a good leader (Clawson, 2006;......
