Research Plan

As part of your research plan, you must first draft a research question for your research paper that will guide the rest of your writing.

A research question, which is more specific and focused than a general topic, is the question that your research paper will be answering. For example, if your general area of interest is Social Security, a possible research question might ask “How could low-income families save more money if the United States had a reformed Social Security plan that included personal retirement accounts?”

As you develop a research question, keep in mind that you will need to research sources to support your topic. Do not pick a one-sided question that will limit your research. Instead, develop a research question that lends itself to further exploration and debate—a question you genuinely want to know the answer to. Try to pick a research question that is not too broad (covering too much) or too narrow (covering too little). It should be broad enough to be discussed in a short research paper.

|What is your general topic or area of interest? |Television and children |
|What is it about your general topic of interest that interests |I picked this is because I know first-hand what it’s like |
|you? |watching TV when growing up so that’s way I picked it. |
| | |
|What questions do you have about the topic that you would like to|What are the negative things about Television and children? |
|investigate? List them. |What are the positive things about Television and Children? |

Loving You

...would. She takes my hand in hers. My hand on her dress she draws my attention in her direction. “Hey you,” I say. “Hey,” she says as her eyes focus on my chest. She places her hands there. “I didn’t know you would come tonight.” I say, struggling for words. “You didn’t?” “I’m lying.” “That one’s fine. But don’t lie to me.” “I can’t.” She brushes hair away from her face. “I know you can’t. That’s part of what I love about you.” My hands find a way to make her dress drop to floor. Her hands find the way to make my clothes magically appear next to her dress. We inhale and exhale each other’s breaths. Eyes locked into each other with every caress. Longing given a brief moment of rest. Skin on skin, sweat on sweat, the same kind of loving and laughter as if we’d just met. « Older story...

In Loving Memory of....

...In loving memory of… In August 2008, I had just returned from two months in Spain. Practically my entire wardrobe had travelled with me during the summer, which explained the gigantic amount of laundry I now had to face. After six times up and down the stairs, I had managed to get all of my clothes down to the basement of my building into the laundry room. I started the washing machines, all nine of them, and returned to my apartment. About an hour later I returned to the laundry room, to collect my clothes, but my findings there was extremely unpleasant - every single machine had been emptied. Subsequent to my findings, it occurred to me that I was the unfortunate victim of an awful crime – the worst crime any girl with a loving relationship to her wardrobe could ever imagine. Somebody had stolen my laundry! It took a while for me to calm down, but I knew what I needed to do. I grabbed the phone and called the police, in the hope that they could solve this unbearable crime I had been faced with. The policeman I talked to did not seem very surprised to hear what had happened to me. Apparently people get their laundry stolen all the time. I really can’t believe who would do something like that. It is a meaningless act of cruelness I have been put through. I have grieved the loss of my dear wardrobe for a long time. I think I have reached a point now, a year and a half later, where it is time for me to move on, and start a new relationship with my new bought......

Team Fun

...Case Application 2: TEAM FUN! Kenny and Norton own TEAM FUN!, a medium-sized company that manufactures and sells sporting goods and equipment. They are watching a CROSSKATES video about cross-country roller skates in the LOUNGE. Norton says, “I don’t know. This stuff looks dangerous! What do you think? Remember that bungee-jumping thing we tried?” Kenny responds, “Edna was out a long time with that knee problem. She sure is a good sport. Keith said we were lucky not to get sued for that. Do you think employees could sue us if they are hurt on product-test assignments?” “Let’s ask Tony,” Norton suggests. “That guy you hired as— what did you call him—director of human resources?” Kenny smiles broadly, “Yep. He sure seems to be busy. He’s pulled together all that paperwork for insurance and retirement that Edna used to handle and named her compensation and benefits manager.” “He wants to send Joe and Eric to a supervisor’s school for work scheduling, job team assignments, and project management,” Norton adds. “He started those picnics by the LAGOON for people to talk about work conditions and issues.” Kenny asks, “Do you think we should let him hire a full-time secretary? I thought Edna could do that, but Tony said she has a full plate. Did you tell him to do that employee bulletin board he tacked into the Web site?” Norton shakes his head no. “Me neither,” Kenny muses. “Wonder why he did that? Guess we’d better talk to him.” Questions: 1. Which of the......

Art of Loving

...I found book The Art of Loving by Erich Fromm to be an interesting and easy to read book. Throughout the book, Fromm goes about applying his theories about love to how people go about their lives. I found myself agreeing with most of the things that he said and when I applied them to real life examples I found most of them to be true. Fromm first begins by saying that people think that there is not anything to be learned about love and there are a few premises on why people believe this. To start, people’s problems are not based on the question of if they are capable of loving; it is the questions of are they lovable and are people able to love them (Fromm, 1). People use different paths in order to achieve being loved. The first path is mostly used by men in which their goal is to be as successful, powerful, and as rich as their place in society would allow them. The next one is mainly used by women where they make themselves attractive by dressing and looking a certain way. Both men and women make them themselves attractive to others by learning how to interact with other people and hold conversations, be modest, and develop pleasant manners (Fromm, 2). Fromm states, “… what most people in our culture mean by being lovable is essentially a mixture between being popular and having sex appeal (Fromm, 2).” Secondly, people assume that love is simple, but finding the thing to be loved is the difficult part. During the Victorian age people married for social reasons and......

Loving vs.Virginia

...Loving v. Virginia A Landmark Supreme Court Case of Interracial Marriages Natasha Plotnikov GVPT 432 Professor Davis December 4th, 2013 Loving v. Virginia was a very important Supreme Court case. It played a significant role in the civil rights movement: the legalization of interracial marriage. The case evaluates the constitutional question whether a statutory law of Virginia is solely based on racial discrimination and if it violates the Equal Protection and Due process Clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment. The Equal Protection Clause forbids states from denying any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws (Epstein, Walker, 2013). Nevertheless, for the couple it was just a fight to stay married and be treated as equal as every legally married couple. They were simply in love and never intended to be in the center of attention. Richard and Mildred Loving were residents of the small town of Central Point, Virginia. They had dated each other since they were teenagers. When they decided to get married Richard learned that......

Loving Support

...Which research studies mentioned in the article show a positive impact? On one research study, “if educators reach out in love consistently; possess high expectations of students; communicate clearly, sensitively, and frequently; and show respect to students and parents, then even if these educators do not expressly practice certain techniques to enhance parental involvement,” according to Jeynes, (2011) they will have good results. Can you imagine and write about the impact if you were to incorporate of a loving environment in the school you are working in or a school in which you will someday soon be employed? Since I would like to be in a classroom, I would always have music on in the morning, something happy and lighthearted and all about love, in one way or another. Smiling is an expression of love and to greet the students and parents with a smile and a “Good morning” would be a sign of love. I would like to have pictures with families and children just having fun. First words taught to the children could be about love and reading books on being kind to family, friends and pets. My favorite music for children would be, “The Greatest Love of All” by George Benson, we used to play it so much when our children were small, we had to purchase another one, and it was so scratched up. Once a week, at the end of the week, I would love to have a “Circle of Love-Chat and Chew,” where the children would sit in a circle, have some light refreshments and take turns talking......

Loving Yourself

...”How much we know and understand ourselves is critically important, but there is something that is even more essential to living a wholehearted life: loving ourselves.”- Brene Brown At the surface of this statement I hear that we must love ourselves for ourselves. Digging a little deeper into this quote and I also am feeling that we have to first love ourselves in order to love others. Living a wholehearted life means to access your whole ‘loving’ heart in everything you say or do; using your heart for genuine good. Loving ourselves for who we are and not waiting on who we want to become. Loving yourself allows you to show that love to others. Showing gratitude and joy as we go about our daily routines makes life worth living. If it is the connection that defines our purpose we should stay positively connected for life. For life…in order to live. As we need air to breathe we need connections to love. Again loving ourselves first and allowing that love to radiate through and around our being, making connections along the way. In the field as a youth worker this can be transferred by bringing your highest self to the experience when working with the youth. As a youth worker our job is to facilitate the growth and development of the youth. In doing so we have to make sure all our actions are intentional and within that intent filled with love. To truly make a difference in this field of youth work we must continue to bring our wholehearted living to the......

If Loving You Is Wrong

...If Loving You is Wrong When I was a young girl, I was taught to respect everyone no matter what race, color or gender they were. We’re all taught to share our toys in kinder garden, take turns getting on the swings, hold hands going to the bathroom, play ring around the rosy together, as well as other fun and exciting things kids love. We get to 5th grade, and we learn that we have crushes on boys and girls. We get those butterflies and simply smile when our crushes walk in the room. Middle school, we actually take risk. We send secret love letters simply asking our crush if they think we’re cute and to check the yes box or the no box. Then we grow into high school age where we began getting sexually active, some more than others not all teenagers go through this phase. While going through the school aged, we ignore the fact that we are different. Were taught in our history and social studies classes that the United States of American is known as the land of the free and the home of the brave. If we are so free, why do we stand by and let others ban the rights of marrying the one they love? Who cares if you see an inter-racial couple walking down the street? Who cares if you see two women or two men raising a child? What ever happened to loving everyone, sharing, caring, playing together. Should we have the right to fight for equality? Well sometimes that funny thing called love happens and that’s where everyone who feels have an opinion try to ban this act. Not only do......

Loving Monday Book Review

...In Loving Monday: Succeeding in Business Without Selling Your Soul was published in 1998 by InterVarsity Press. The book, In Loving Monday depicts Beckett's attitude about business and his faith walk after experiencing unforeseen circumstances in business relations. Failure has always caused many to come to the realization that having a stronger Faith walk with the Lord is very critical in business relations. What I love most about this book is that it gives a broader view of the significance of integrating Faith and Business not only for the English language but an additional 15 languages as well. Knowing that we have a variety of cultures reading this book raises an awareness that the American people are not the only people who need tools to help them in business relations. Beckett introduces his heartfelt thesis by sharing his own unique story -- how he came to love what is considered the first day of a work week. The acronym, “TGIM which stands for: Thank Goodness It's Monday” (Beckett, 2001). – was created in an effort so that Americans would learn to look at the concept of a “Monday” differently. Beckett thought that if Americans would appreciate the start of a Monday, countless would find their jobs more appeasing. Hence, if more Americans would learn to integrate their work and their beliefs, says author John Beckett, they would find more meaning and satisfaction in their jobs and they no longer would dread the start of each new week but create a sense of......

Loving Yourself Inside and Out

...Jamie McDowell October 27, 2015 “Loving yourself inside and out” Maleeka Madison, an eleven year old, in the seventh grade was having problems with students making fun of her. Not being appealing enough to her peers with very dark skin and homemade clothes was the start of her troubles. Very smart, however, being made fun of distracted her from her work. Other’s words helped develop her insecurities and low self-esteem which made her not see anything good about herself. Often feeling alone when with people, she was isolated to herself. The detachment of her favorite person in the world, her father, was the worst of all her problems. The person who was always there, always ready to talk, and always checking up on her: Gone! Do you know who Maleeka reminds me of? She reminds me of myself. Getting called ugly by my peers, although not because of my facial features, but because of my attire and the fact my hair was never done was the start of me being a target by other students in the poor, urban middle school I went to; only having one floor and two long hallways. Always wearing two matted puffy pony tails classified me as ugly. Now don’t get me wrong I didn’t always get defensive nor did I get upset, some of things said were funny. Bullying at times could be exaggerated, although there were serious bulling situations. Nevertheless, not always a person is trying to hurt you by telling you what you look like or how they feel about you. However, in Main Street Middle......

Writing for Fun

...Research Writing can be Fun Remember the last time your teacher asked you to write a research paper on a subject of your choosing? You probably groaned and grimaced, wiped your sweaty brow, and gasped. Relax. Take a deep breath. This paper will show you how writing for a research paper assignment can not only be done easily, but be fun! Fun you say? How? First, pick a topic that you know something about. Do you like looking for sea shells when vacationing on the beach with your family? Skateboarding at the local park? Playing video games with your friends? Baking with your mom? Making money shoveling snow for your neighbors? Playing soccer or hockey with your team? Reading books? Riding your bicycle? I think by now you get the idea – choose something that you already know a little something about and enjoy. The next steps is to research that topic. So let’s take the example of collecting sea shells on the beach when vacationing with your family. You can approach the research from several angles. You can research the specific types of shells that are located in a specific region. You can research the area where you found the shells. So let’s say that you found a conch shell on the beach in the Bahamas. You can start researching conch shells. The first step to research is one you already know about “Google”. Type Conch Shell in the google search engine and here are just three of the many......

Fun Home

... Alison Bechdel's Fun Home, appropriately sub-titled 'A Family Tragicomic', is a graphic novel style autobiography that revolves around the story of her complicated relationship with her father, and the realization of her own homosexuality. It is complex, intelligent and insightful. The story develops through the interweaving of Bechdel's memories of her childhood and the realizations she is able to make in hindsight. Bechdel challenges the concepts of gender roles, sexual orientation, and most importantly fatherhood through her own stories so that they may take on a deeper meaning in the end. Ultimately the question she aims to answer is: why am I am who I am? Secondary to this inquiry are related questions: how does a closeted gay father affect his daughter’s future homosexuality?  Growing up, Bechdel and her father both struggled with gender roles. Bechdel's refusal to grow her hair long and her reluctance to wear dresses, skirts, or jewelry were the opposite of her father's preference for the effeminate; gardening, decorating, wearing fine creams and colognes. On page 96 the author reveals that her older cousins called her “Butch”, a nickname that reflected her success at acting masculine. To her ‘Butch” was the “opposite of sissy… it was clear to me that my father was a big sissy” (page 97). As a child Bechdel was acutely aware of the breech in conventional gender roles that occurred between her and her father and she resented it, even stating on page 96 that......
