What is green marketing? Green marketing refers to the process of selling products and/or services based on their environmental benefits. Such a product or service may be environmentally friendly in itself or produced and/or packaged in an environmentally friendly way.
The obvious assumption of green marketing is that potential consumers will view a product or service's "greenness" as a benefit and base their buying decision accordingly. The not-so-obvious assumption of green marketing is that consumers will be willing to pay more for green products than they would for a less-green comparable alternative product - an assumption that, in my opinion, has not been proven conclusively.
While green marketing is growing greatly as increasing numbers of consumers are willing to back their environmental consciousnesses with their dollars, it can be dangerous. The public tends to be skeptical of green claims to begin with and companies can seriously damage their brands and their sales if a green claim is discovered to be false or contradicted by a company's other products or practices. Presenting a product or service as green when it's not is called greenwashing.

...such as financial industries where sustainable financing and banking are the new catch-phrases. Delving into the green initiatives in Malaysia, we see the efforts and support that the government has put into realising the green concept in the country. Malaysia gazetted the Environmental Quality (Industrial Effluent) Regulations, Environmental Quality (Sewage) Regulations and Environmental Quality (Control of Pollution from solid waste transfer stations and Landfill) in 2009. Further to this, Malaysia pledged to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 40% by 2020. The seriousness of the Malaysian government’s intentions towards climate change and the need for energy security and green technology, ultimately led to the establishment of the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water on 9 April 2009. The National Green Technology Policy is defined by four main pillars – energy, minimising energy consumption; environment, conserving and minimising environmental impact; economy, enhancing economic development through technology and social, a need to improve the quality of life for all. The policy basically intends to utilise energy efficiently in bid to enhance the economy while increasing the nation’s capability for green technology innovation and educating the public on green technology. The government has put much effort in ensuring the creation of a green community in the tenth, eleventh and twelfth Malaysia plans. In the current Malaysia plan there is much......

Air Bags

...is to someone, one would simply say it is a bag that inflates during a car crash to save someone's life. But to dig deeper, what is the science behind an airbag and does it always work? An airbag is a nylon bag in the steering wheel of a vehicle. When the censor in the steering wheel goes off that an accident has happened, the airbag inflates within two milliseconds. Within the nylon bag, there is a mixture of sodium azide (NaN3), and potassium nitrate (KNO3), that react when the airbag sensor goes off (Brian). This reaction causes an explosion, “[filling] the airbag with about 67 liters of nitrogen gas- which is enough to inflate a normal air bag” (Scientific America). Theoretically, in the right amount, this will inflate the airbag to the right amount to save the person's life. However, this is just theoretically. In some instances, the airbag may inflate too much or too little, and fail to save a life. Although the scientists that design the airbags use ut-most caution, not every experiment will turn out the same and inflate the airbag perfectly. In an experiment conducted here at "Charley's Newspapers" we stimulated the reaction between baking soda and vinegar by blowing up a plastic bag that was designed to save an egg. This was to get a feel on how accurate an airbag may be. Using very precise stoichiometry, our scientists here had found that .8 grams of baking soda and 11 mL of vinegar should theoretically blow the plastic bag up enough to save the egg's life.......

Bag the Ban or Ban the Bag

...Ban the Bag or Bag the Ban: An In-depth Look Into Austin’s Ban on Single-Use Bags In today’s day and age, the topic of environmental sustainability and the protection of the environment are found at the basis of a multitude of political debates and arguments. The way we, and our government, view the protection of the environment and the impact we have on the world around us has shaped the types of policies that governments in the U.S. have passed. One of these policies which has been implemented in a variety of cities around the United States, including Austin, is the ban on single-use plastic and paper bags. This ban has been hotly debated, and there are many people who view it as beneficial and many others who see it as unnecessary and imposing. Either way the impacts of this policy are far-reaching in how it can affect customers, businesses, and the environment. In this paper, I will show the conflicting arguments in this ongoing debate, focusing on the bag ban implemented in Austin in early 2013. We will begin by looking at the two opposing sides to the argument. There are many groups of people who advocated for the implementation of a city ordinance banning single-use bags in Austin and who continue to support it. The Austin City Government, led by Mayor Lee Leffinwell, and the Austin Resource Recovery, formerly known as the Solid Waste Services (SWS) Department, were the main proponents who pushed the ordinance into effect. In addition, the Zero Waste Advisory......

Plastic Bag

...UNIVERSITY OF MALAYA CRITICAL THINKING CBEB1108 PLASTIC BAG SHOULD BE BANNED WHAT IS PLASTIC BAG? Plastic bag is used to carry item especially from store to home. Most of the time plastic bag is used for storage and trash in common. Plastics are made from non-renewable natural resources such as crude oil, gas and coal. IMPACT The impact of plastic bags on the environment is enormous. As of August 2010, between 500 billion and 1 trillion plastic bags are being used each year worldwide. Approximately 100,000 sea turtles and other marine animals die every year because they either mistake the bags for food or get strangled in them, says Natural Environment. In Australia, 50 million garbage bags end up as litter yearly, and the "plastic soup" patch floating in the Pacific Ocean is twice the size of the continental United States. It is roughly 80 percent plastic, according to The Independent, a British newspaper. What exactly the impact of reusable bag usage in the U.S. is far from clear. Even though, according to the website Earth 911, reusing or recycling one ton of plastic means the equivalent of 11 barrels of oil are saved. ALTERNATIVE As we can see nowadays grocery chain carries cheap reusable grocery bags and more upscale bags are available in practically all chain stores. In addition, many people sew their own from leftover fabric or by converting old jeans or beach towels into personalized carry-on bags, which is fun and creative way to......

...Plastic Bag Jeff Blanchard COMM215 November 3, 2014 Gayle Thomas Plastic Bag I feel that the Senate Bill 270 has too many negative consequences to be of significant value to the citizens California. Because of the dramatic change in environmental resources used and the financial impact for fixed income citizens. The tax increase on California consumers are also an issue. This bill is a ban on the use of single use plastic bags at grocery stores. Which has been a controversial subject for a number of years. I think this is the worst decision that the Governor has ever made. On September 30, 2014. The California Governor signed a very controversial bill that bans the use of single use plastic bags in grocery stores in the State of California. “This bill, as of July 1, 2015, would prohibit stores that have a specified amount of sales in dollars or retail floor space from providing a single-use carryout bag to a customer, with specified exceptions.” (California SB270). First of all, I would like to state that there are two very opposing arguments that view this bill. To ban and not to ban. I would like to state my position as not to ban the use of plastic bags. This ban like some others will affect all the citizens of the State of California. In which, we will all either have to pay for the use of paper bags or buy reusable grocery ones. It requires all grocery stores to “charge a fee” for paper bags at no less than .10 cents a bag or, sell reusable bags. “Union......

...the car were to crash into a tree, the force of the tree would bring the car to an abrupt halt. The speed of the occupants, however, would remain the same because of their independent inertia and they would bang into the steering wheel, the dashboard or the windshield. The force exerted by the steering wheel or the windshield would then bring the occupants to a stop but may in the process cause injury to vulnerable body parts such as the head and the face. Car manufacturers use 2 different restraint systems to help stop the occupants while doing as little damage to him or her as possible. The oldest one is the seatbelt that spreads this stopping force across sturdier parts of the body over a longer period of time to minimize damage. The air bag is the second and a more recently developed system that is used to deploying a rapidly inflating cushion in the space between the passenger and the steering wheel or dash board to prevent crash injuries. Fig1-Diagram of an airbag.[3] 2.History of Airbag:- The car manufactures has spent a great time in advancing car safety features. The airbag is one innovative safety feature. Before the airbags that were placed in cars, the cars did not have any safety features. They had an automatic seatbelt. The car manufactures first introduced the airbag system in the 1970s. In 1971 the Ford Company tested the airbag system at an experimental fleet. Then a few years later the Chevrolet made the airbag in cars just for the governmental......

...“Plastic Bags” 1 Romonia Ceaser December 16, 2014 Grantham University “Plastic Bags” 2 From slide the three most important thing I learned was nearly 200 different species of sea life including; whales, dolphins, seals and turtle die due to plastic bags, they die after ingesting plastic bag which they mistake for food, second bag find their way into the sea via drains and sewage pipes, third the effect on wildlife can be catastrophic, birds become terminally entangled (To complication). ...2015 LD 325 An Act to phase out the use of single use plastic shopping bags LD 325 An Act to phase out the use of single use plastic shopping bags One hundred and sixty thousand plastic bags are used globally every second of every day. China, a country of 1.3 billion, consumes three billion plastic bags daily, or one trillion ninety five billion per year, according to China Trade News. (Plastics News) In 1965, Celloplast came up with the design on which all modern plastic shopping bags are based: a tube of plastic sealed at the bottom to allow for the packaging of goods, an open top to insert such items into the bag and handles for convenient carrying. This bag is commonly known as the T-shirt bag or single use plastic shopping bag. By the end of 1985, 75% of U.S. grocery stores carried plastic bags in addition to paper ones, and today, plastic bags have secured more than 80% of the grocery and convenience store market. When Exxon Mobile introduced these bags to the U.S. in the late 1970’s they were immediately met with controversy. Not only were people worried about the environmental impact of the plastic, but suburban shoppers preferred paper bags that would stand upright in the trunks of their cars, while city folk liked the handles on the plastic bags to carry on their walk home. Plastic bags won the minds and hearts of business owners worried about their bottom line. (Petru) Plastic bags are much cheaper to purchase than paper by up to 4 times. The plastic is......

...of plastic bags from our local stores daily. These days, there is so much hoopla about banning these convenient little bags that many of us love. Opposers of these bags claim (or were misled to think) that they are not environmentally responsible. Before we take on a war against these plastic bags with hopes of saving the world one bag at a time, as citizens we should get the facts into perspective about alternatives being advertised before making earth saving decisions. Also, what happened to being presented with choices and choosing the ones we find to be more responsible? Regularly, you may hear critics stating that yearly a billion bags are not recycled and filling up our landfills. This is in fact true. Plastic bags take . To remedy this problem, has anyone ever asked the question as to why we don’t just find a way to recycle the bags with all the technology available these days? Matter of fact, the truth is that these bags are already recyclable! Plastic bags can be recycled into things like plastic wood which can be used to make backyard decking components, shopping crates, park benches or even more plastic bags. The EPA reported that only 1% of these bags are being recycled? As responsible citizens we should all get together to push for new laws that encourage the manufacturers who can use this plastic to do do so rather than piling it up in the landfills. Consumers have been misled to associate these new thick recyclable bags or paper bags as a mean......

...Green There has been big talk about saving earth or going green, over the past few years. The main purpose is to preserve earth’s natural raw resources because we are running out of natural resources including gas, oil, and coal. There are energy efficient products being promoted such as battery operated cars, appliances, light bulbs and even homes. The problem is many energy efficient items are so expensive, that not everyone can afford to pay for an energy efficient car or an energy efficient home, but there are still many ways to help save the planet earth. Think about what is in that trash bag before you throw it away. Saving the trash could possibly mean saving the earth. If consumers could do something with the trash they discard the manufacturer would not have to use raw natural materials to make products. The average person generates four pounds of trash per day (Brown Par 2 ). If consumers could recycle some of that trash they could reduce landfills. Landfills are a place where your discarded trash goes; it is then buried. Not only are landfills not good for the environment, but they are not good for the wildlife. Another good reason for recycling is it saves energy because the big companies do not have to burn as much energy to produce something new. By using recycled materials it cuts down on the energy consumption as well as the cost for consumers. That means more money in everyone’s pocket. Consumers can also save a lot money recycling because instead of......
