When comparing the SCSI Hard Drives, in my opinion the best of the group is the Seagate Constellation. Its price is one of the best, the seek time is so much better than the rest, it runs a faster interface type then the rest, and it has the best noise rating of the group. The worst one on the page is the HP/Compaq. Even though it is the best price, the maximum temperature rating is only 95°F and in a poorly ventilated room, temperatures inside a tower could exceed 95°F. The other three in the list all have about the same specification but there biggest downfall is price. The closest to the Seagate is the Dell and it is still over a hundred dollars more expensive. Other specifications were all close to each other with the exception of the interface type. The Seagate is the only one running at a faster rate. When comparing the SATA Hard Drives, in my opinion the best of the group is once again the Seagate Barracuda. Once again its price is one of the best in the group, has the best seek time, runs on a faster interface and is rated one of the best is noise specification. The worst one in this group is the Toshiba. First of all its price is the most expensive of the group, and then its spindle speed is far worse than all the others at 5400 rpms, which makes it the slowest in seek time as well at 12 ms in comparison to the rest which run at around 8 to 9 ms. The rest of the hard drives in the group all average about the same with the Western Digital running at the same interface speed as the Seagate but it is $35 more. When comparing the best two from each group, I would pick the Seagate Barracuda SATA hard drive over the Seagate Constellation SCSI hard drive. The biggest reason is the price. The Barracuda is over a hundred dollars less than the Constellation. The SATA hard drives are the way of the future also. There is a large price range between…...

Drive

...What Drives Us? What is drive and why is it important? It is the ambition and will of an individual to commit an act. We are driven by what motivates us and success is measured in many ways. Goals can be a part of this process, but are not always necessary. The most common motivator is reward, such as money; however it is not the only one. People are also driven by emotion and power. Without motivation, our society would not be as prosperous as it is today. Money, power, and emotion are the most prevalent things that compel us to wake up and do what we do each and every day. Our ability to earn money plays a large part in how we fit into society. Those that lack education and the ambition to learn generally find themselves the poorest while those that seek knowledge and want to better their lives usually hold wealth and power. Sometimes blind luck or chance can affect how we live. Winning the lottery or inventing something useful can change your life in many ways. They say you can’t buy happiness, but I would sure like to give it a try. The bottom line is having too much money is preferable to not having enough. Acting according to the law is a choice we all have to make. People who commit horrific crimes are driven, but not necessarily by the same things as the rest of the population. Feelings of power and the adrenaline rush from committing a crime can be addictive. Criminals usually commit more severe crimes after they learn how to get away with smaller......

The Price of Ram and Hard Drive Storage over the Past 30 Years

...The Price of RAM And Hard Drive Storage Over The Past 30 Years The price and capacities of RAM and hard drive storage have come a long way in the past 30 years. Take for instance, in 1981 an 18MB hard drive cost $2500, today a 1TB hard drive costs $150. In 1990 RAM costs were $50 per MB and today one can purchase 2GB RAM for approximately $50. Observe the following table pertaining to hard drive cost vs GB capacity from 1980-2009: Table Source: iStockAnalyst Observe that there is a strong exponential correlation in the capacity vs cost ratio, where r=0.9916. During the last 30 years the capacity per unit cost ratio has nearly doubled approximately every 14 months. The regression equation is given by: Many TB+ drives have become available which recently broken the $0.10/GB boundary, whilst the next milestone being $0.01/GB or $10/TB. If historical trends continue, then 10 years from now the cost per GB of hard drive capacity will become $0.0000351 per GB or $0.0351 per TB. For $100, one could purchase a 2,849TB drive 10 years from now, based on the analysis of historical trends. Although 120 PB drives are currently available in the server and super computing market, consumer grade hard drives aren’t available in these sizes, as the physical size and cost per PB is too great for the marketability in the consumer market. Based on historical trends, one could forecast the availability of a consumer level 100TB hard drive in the next five years. It must be noted all......

Hard Disk Drive Industry

...Contents 1. Introduction 2. History of Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Industry 3 Definition of HDD 4. Structure of the Industry 5. Competitiveness 6. Challenges 7. Conclusion 1. Introduction In this era, people own various types of electronics which contain hard disk drives. Among these HDD (Hard Disk Drive) industries, Seagate is one of the worldwide leaders in manufacturing and marketing of hard disk drives. Seagate’s corporate office is located in Scotts Valley, California and employs nearly 52,000 people around the world. As one of employees in Seagate Company, I will explain in detail the nature of the HDD industry and its products. 2. History of HDD Industry Behind the HDD (Hard Disk Drive) industry is an interesting and challenging history. In 24 years it progressed from a monstrosity with fifty two-foot diameter disks holding five Mbytes of data to today's drives measuring 3.5 inches wide and holding 2 Tera-Bytes. The HDD market has expanded into consumer applications such as camcorders, cell phones, audio players, video players, video recorders, personal assistants and video game consoles. Before the disk drive was created, there were magnetic drums. In the 1950s, Engineering Research Associates of Minneapolis built the first commercial magnetic drum storage unit for the U.S. Navy, called ERA 110, which could store up to a million bits of data. In 1956, IBM invented the first computer disk storage, the 305 RAMAC (Random Access Method of Accounting......

Hard Body Research Plan

...Eshon Howard Bus 339 Marketing Research Hard Body Research Plan Victor Olufeso Introduction The Hard Body Haulers is a local moving company that is not experiencing consistent growth in revenue. The company was founded in 2008 and is located in Cleveland, Ohio; one of the fastest shrinking cities in terms of population in the United States (http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/39/3916000.html, 2006). This along with the high number of home foreclosures in the area indicates that people in the area are relocating to other dwellings. In contrast, the level of people unemployed in the area indicate that people do not have the discretionary resources available to them to hire a mover and are instead utilizing do it yourself alternatives (http://www.cleveland.com/datacentral/index.ssf, 2011). Moving costs are expensive to consumers in a recessive economy. Much of the cost of that the moving companies incur are fixed costs in the form of equipment such as vehicle maintenance, packaging supplies, and lifting equipment. Secondly, there is a high cost insurance and licensing requirements that every moving company must have in order to be in compliance with the State of Ohio (http://www.puco.ohio.gov/puco/, 2011). The availability of the moving company can also increase the costs considering that most moving companies are busiest on the last ten days of the month (Cohn, 2010). Finally, moving can be a very time consuming process. So moving companies generally charge on an......

A Drive in Chinatown

...I come from a distant country called Myanmar (previously called Burma), and in our country, citizens of ages 15 should learn how to drive. It is also their first priority way before you move on to what you want to do. In Myanmar, young citizens should go straight to the driving school as soon as they turn 15. Mainly, there are two tests that you have to answer before you earn a driving certificate. They are the training test, where you have to answer both writing and revising the basics of what your instructor has taught, and the practical test, where you have to drive around the city, even if there is a heavy. It was all easy and regular for me when I first learned how to drive. As usual, the instructor taught me all the basics of driving, and I passed the training way before my classmates. Therefore, I was just a little bit earlier than them to take the practical test. The instructor asked me whether I was able to finish the practical test earlier than my classmates. I replied, "All right, master, I will do my best." The next day when it was the Chinese New Year, I finished my training test, and I was put forward to take the practical test. The instructor drove his white Toyota Corolla and I sat on the driver's chair, which was on the right. Then I started the car and drove to where he instructed me to. As soon as I drove past the driving school, I thought what my obstacles would be, what my first practical test would be like. I did not even talk to the instructor at all......

Mulholland Drive

...Deciphering Mulholland Drive Mulholland Drive is a twisted and exhilarating movie directed by David Lynch. The movies tells the story of a Canadian women, Diane Selwyn, who moves to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting. For the most of the movie, we are thrown into a dream Diane has. In this dream many of the characters and people in her actual life are integrated into her dream with new identities. The last part of the movie we are brought back to Diane’s actual reality. Only once I was brought into Diane’s reality did I realize the importance of the fantasy. I believe Diane has realized the hard, cruel reality of Hollywood and this has caused her to have a breakdown. She has lost the love of her life to this Hollywood scene and is faced with the fact that she is a failed actress. These inner conflicts and struggles have caused her despair and ultimately her demise. David Lynch is highly praised in this movie because of his ability to mesh fantasy and reality. The fantasy part digs into Diane’s deepest desires and conflicts. A lot of the things that happen in the dream part of the movie, I feel display the way she wished things had happened, mostly with her relationship with Camille. In order to understand Mulholland Drive you must be able to distinguish between Diane’s dream and her reality. The movie starts with Diane arriving to Hollywood, she is very excited and thrilled for her new opportunity. In the fantasy Diane is introduced as Betty and is......

Drive

...Overview Rewards and punishments are failing us as motivators, declares Pink. Encouraging autonomy, mastery and purpose in personal and professional settings will lead to more productive, creative, and ultimately fulfilling lives. Part One: A New Operating System Chapter 1 questions the traditional view of human motivation that rewards pushing people to perform better and work harder. Pink explains that people have operating systems--the first, Motivation 1.0, is the biological drive to survive, and the second, Motivation 2.0 (M2), is driven by extrinsic motivators. Pink then describes organizations’ limited attempts to improve M2 by fostering environments for employees to grow and gain more autonomy. Pink describes how M2 is increasingly incompatible with how we organize what we do, how we think about what we do, and how we do what we do. He describes how organizations are morphing into entities that allow for a mix of goals rather than segregated by for-profit and not-for-profit. He describes how humans think irrationally, contrary to what economists may believe. Finally, Pink describes how people need to be intrinsically motivated in order for our motivational operating system to function. In Chapter 2, Pink discusses the negative consequences of utilizing carrots and sticks, à la M2, to encourage certain actions or results. Firstly, carrots and sticks have the potential to diminish intrinsic motivation, which is driven by passion, pleasure, and interest in a......

Drive for Working

...focus is on pay and time off of employees instead of the day to day operation of the business. I informed her to write everything out and present her concerns in a professional manner. When she let me know that this had been done on several occasions, I determined based on what I have learned recently, that it is time for some research. Research needs to be done to find out if the original incentives are common for her field of work. We need to talk to other people in the industry to find out what the norm is. Research needs to be done to determine the average compensation in her area. This can be done online through different websites that keep track of current pay rates. No matter what information is found I believe that there are only two solutions. The solution is going to be for her to find another place of employment or stay where she is and just deal with the changes. If the research shows that in fact she is being under-paid and benefits or incentives are the norm for the industry then I believe the solution would be to create a good resume and start looking for employment elsewhere. I know that some people would argue that jobs are hard to come by and just be grateful to have. On the contrary, people have to work to live so although everyday won’t be perfect people should at least be able to have a job that they halfway enjoy going to. However, if what is being offered is the pretty much the same for other companies then the solution should be for her......

Hard Drives

...HDD Power Consumption VS Performance Hard Disk Drive- abbreviated as HDD is a data storage device used for storing and retrieving digital information using rapidly rotating disks coated with magnetic material. Magnetic hard-disk drives are used to store most of the data accessible by personal computers and workstations, as well as much of the data being processed by large enterprise servers. The data is stored digitally as tiny magnetized regions, called bits, on the disk. In this assignment, I would like to compare two different HDD by Western Digital. Western Digital is one of the largest computer hard disk drive manufacturers in the world. The way WD designed their website is intuitive so it’s easier for the user to comprehend, and decide which hard drive will best fit the customer needs. They say “Our colors give you the power”, by comparing each individual HDD we can easily decide which hard disk drive should be purchased according to customers’ needs. Refer to Figure 1 to compare between various HDDs that Western Digital offers. The two HDDs that I would like to focus on are the WD Green- Cool, quiet, eco-friendly, and WD Black- Maximum performance for power computing. WD Green Desktop Hard Drive WD Green Desktop Hard Drives are designed to run very cool and quiet when in operation, in other words eco- friendly, which are beneficial for energy efficiency. WD Green 1TB Desktop Hard Drive: 3.5-inch, SATA 6 GB/s, IntelliPower, 64MB Cache WD10EZRX. This HDD is......

Scenic Drive

...Scenic Drive The picture is named “Scenic Drive” by Ron Cobb and is a cartoonish drawing. The picture shows a busy road, which leads to the city. There are a couple old school cars and a lot of billboards along the road, with beautiful pictures of nature on it. You can begin to see the city and a lot of smoke in the horizon. It shows a lot of negative aspects of the modern lifestyle. The drawing really shows issues that the modern life courses like urbanization, destroying the environment and a lot more. The road is a very big part of the picture it is the first thing you notice when looking at the picture. And that road leads up to the city and draws the attention to the smoke. The smoke then leads to the power lines. All these things show how little people care about the environment. The power lines are symbolising all the power and electricity we need in our world, the smoke and many cars are there to show how little we care and how much garbage we put out in the air, but all that mat-ters is getting home fast without any trouble. The sign on the side of the road which says “Scenic Drive” is used ironic, because there is nothing scenic about that drive, everything is sad and every-thing other than beautiful, but there are many billboards on the sides with images of beautiful nature settings, that almost give an illusion of being in the wild with a great view. The movement is very dynamic there are many dynamic lines; you can feel the picture moving the cars driving....

Changing Ps3 Hard Drive

...Capacity. In order to do that, you need to buy a new hard disk which is a SATA type and sized 2.5”. As far as storage capacity goes, you don’t have to go through the process unless you want a large capacity like 120 GB and above. A philips screwdriver will do fine for you purpose. To upgrade your PS3 capacity, you need to do the following steps. First, you need to backup your current data if you don’t want to lose it. Insert an external drive; it could be a flash or a hard disk, which is FAT32 type. Next, from the system menu on you PS3, choose the backup utility. Now, the data of your PS3 is copied to your external drive. The next step is extracting the hard disk of the console. First, open HDD plastic cover which is located on the left side of your console. Next, remove the blue screw using the philips screwdriver. After that, open the metal latch. Then, slide out the hard disk drive. After that, remove the four screws that hold the hard drive to the tray; you’ll need a little power in order to do that. Now, it’s time to change the hard disk. Swap the hard disk drives and install the screws into the new hard disk. After that, put the drive tray back into the console and slide it inside into place. Then, replace the blue screw and tight it. After that, place the HDD plastic cover back. Then, switch on the console. Now, the new hard disk is automatically formatted by the PS3 system. After that, insert the external drive which has your PS3 backup data and from the system......
