Psychology and Health Issues

When the weight of an individual is greater than what’s considered to be healthy for their given height is exceeded, and then they are labeled as obese. The ranges of weight also have been able to show the increase and likelihood of other diseases and health care problems. “About one third of the United States adults are obese and approximately 17% of children and adolescents between ages two and 19 are obese” (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2010). According to the center for disease control, “ in 2010 no states has a prevalence of obesity less than 20%, thirty six states has a prevalence of 25% or more, and twelve of the states had a prevalence of 30% or more” (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2010).

Individuals can become obese by eating a large number of calories and not exercising enough to burn the calories off. Although diet and exercise plays a part in obesity there are also other factors such as age, gender, genetics, environment, physical activity, illness, and medication (WebMd, 2005-2011) that takes a part in obesity. As individuals begin to age their metabolizism slows down. Women sometimes tend to be more overweight than me. Men are know to burn more energy at rest than women and require more calories to keep up with their body weight. Lack of exercise and the continuous consumption of junk food also contributes to obesity in youth and adults. Nowadays some families depend on fast food for dinner, although its good, fast, and easy it can cause individuals to eat bigger portions than recommended. Enviornmental and social activites also play a role. Because of new technology and games, children may choose to stay home instead of going out and getting the chance of exercise and burning calories.

Hca Final: Substance Abuse Paper

...Substance 1 Final: Substance Abuse Frank T. DiBona HCA250 May 12, 2012 2 Substance abuse is a disease that does not discriminate, no matter what race or gender, it can affect anyone, anywhere, at any given time, and children as well as adults can fall prey to this type of addiction. According to Robinson, Saisan, and Smith (2012), “Some people are able to use recreational or prescription drugs without ever experiencing negative consequences or addiction.” (para. 1). I have known people that were addicted to drugs, whether street drugs or prescribed, and I have seen the what they were like when they were clean, as well as when they were high, and I have heard the horror stories that were associated with their addiction. Being addicted can tear apart a family, make a person do things that they would not normally do, and sometimes their addiction would cause problems even when they were clean; people looking for money that was borrowed or stolen, as well as drugs. Families have gone broke, college savings gone, jewelry from a family member taken to get their next fix, household items pawned for a few dollars to buy a bag of heroine that would only last one day, if that, cars repossessed because the money that should have gone to making the payment was used to buy cocaine, and marriages......

...Final Paper Paul Rosaschi MGT-337 Western International University Final I would like to do my final paper on a great leader; Abraham Lincoln, our 16th president. I believe he was a good leader because he possessed many qualities that qualified him as great leaders here are a few qualities he had: Capacity to Listen to Different Points of View Ability to Learn on the Job Ready Willingness to Share Credit for Success Ready Willingness to Share Blame for Failure Awareness of Own Weaknesses Ability to Control Emotions Know How to Relax and Replenish. Go Out into the Field and Manage Directly Strength to Adhere to Fundamental Goals Ability to Communicate Goals and Vision All these qualities I believe would have translated to any supervisory role he could occupy. While I think the presidency was what he was meant to do, these skills are vital to a successful leader. I am interested in him as a final paper because of everything he accomplished during his life, which was ended too soon. I will write about his success as well as his failures before and during his term.  Abe Lincoln could debate. Think about leaders and think about how they do with pubic speaking. Do we consider George W. as a good leader? No. But he can't speak either. Hitler was horrible man, but why did a whole country follow him. He could speak and articulate ideas......

I use all my learning patterns i don't avoid any. My Learning Pattern scores are Sequence 32 Percision 32 Technical 27 Confluence 21. I use sequence first as I always do things in order and I dont like clutter. I use percision first as I always ask alot of questions and need an explanation for everything. I use technical reasoning first as I like to work alone and build anything. I use confluence as needed as I brainstorm before starting a task and to create things from the top of my head. All four of my patterns interact like before starting a task I brainstorm ideas then I get the information I need. That I put everything in order then draft what I have to do. ...Health is “the ability of a system (a cell, organism, family, society) to respond adaptively to a wide variety of environmental challenges (physical, chemical, infectious, psychological, social)' (Brody and Sobel, 1980: 168-69). The relationship between health and psychology has become more focused in the 20th century. It has been considered as far back as ancient Greece, but has taken root heavily in the 20th century. Health and psychology has the meaning that our mind and bodies interact with each other. If we are overly stressed then we may likely see physical health effects such as higher blood pressure, increased heart rate, etc. When we keep a positive balance between our physical health and our mental health, then we are working on the close relationship of health and psychology. We can directly affect our health by our lifestyles. By this I mean if we choose to smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol, consume to much caffeine, or be overweight. Since these lifestyle choices affect us physically and mentally many workplaces offer wellness programs to help aide in the education of health and psychology. When an employer makes the choice to provide wellness programs for their employees both the employer and the employee benefits. The employer benefits if they provide medical insurance to the employee in the possibility of lowering their health insurance cost. The healthier lifestyle the employee lives the less cost in time loss from work, or possibilities for workplace......
