“For infants and toddlers learning and living is the same thing. If they feel secure, treasured, loved, their own energy and curiosity will bring them new understanding and new skills”. There are many factors that contribute to an infant or toddler’s development; these characteristics are known as milestones. “Milestones are punctuations in a baby's growth and development. Milestones of physical development proceed from head to toe. Hence, the child first learns to control his head, then his body, arms and then legs. These milestones provide a guide to parents telling them what to expect and when to expect it.”(Physical development in Infants starts right at birth. Infants cannot control their body movements. Most of their movements are called reflexes. Their nervous system is not entirely developed. During the first months, infants can see clearly objects that are about 10 inches away from their faces. This is why holding baby close and looking at them face to face is important with bonding. By six months, their vision is more fully developed. By four months, most babies have some control of their muscles and nervous system. They can sit with support, hold their head up for short periods of time, and can roll from their side to their stomach. By five months, most babies can roll over. The next characteristic of infant development is social and emotional. . Babies cry to express anger, pain and hunger. It is their way of communicating. They begin to build trust as their parents or caregivers meet their needs. These needs can be met by feeding them when they are hungry, changing their diaper, and holding and comforting them when they cry. Infants smile in response to an enjoyable sound or when their tummy is full.

...- hello haven’t seen for ages. How are you? What’s news? - Thanks I’m fine what about you? - I’m pretty well too. To be honest a bit tired because of the university. - I see. Oh what’s is this in your hands? - The book by Audolous Huxley Crome Yellow. I have just finished reading it and I’m really impressed by it. By the way have you read it? - yes, sure we had this book for our Home Reading classes. And I agree with people who call this book “the book of ideas”. Moreover, it is for prepared readers, who can see all those ideas which the author wanted to express. - That’s it I defenetly agree with you. Even though I can not call it one of my favourite books, but the problems which the author raises are worth mentioning. And all of them will be always urgent. - for example the theme of the Lost Generation in the book. - could you please remind me what this theme is about? unfortunately I don’t remember why they were called lost generation - Sure, the Lost Generation was the generation that came during World War I. The term was populized by ernest Hemingway who used it as one of two contrasting epigraphs for his novel. People say that Gertrude Stein heard words “lost generation” from garage owner, who shouted at an young mechanic. - Well, Huxley uses this theme in his novel. He probes the psyche of human nature through the eyes of amused, and somewhat detached, young men searching fot meaning in a meaning less world. - Yes right and this meaningless......

...lights might click on and faces appear and an entire street be startled by the passing of a lone figure, himself, in the early November evening. On this particular evening he began his journey in a westerly direction, towards the hidden sea. There was a good crystal frost in the air; it cut the nose and made the lungs blaze like a Christmas tree inside; you could feel the cold light going on and off, all the branches filled with invisible snow. He listened to the faint push of his soft shoes through autumn leaves with satisfaction, and whistled a cold quiet whistle between his teeth, occasionally picking up a leaf as he passed, examining its skeletal pattern in the infrequent lamplights as he went on, smelling its rusty smell. 'Hello, in there,' he whispered to every house on every side as he moved. 'What's up tonight on Channel 4, Channel 7, Channel 9? Where are the cowboys rushing, and do I see the United States Cavalry over the next hill to the rescue?' The street was silent and long and empty, with only his shadow moving like the shadow of a hawk in mid-country. If he closed his eyes and stood very still, frozen, he could imagine himself upon the centre of a plain, a wintry, windless Arizona desert with no house in a thousand miles, and only dry river beds, the streets, for company. 'What is it now?' he asked the houses, noticing his wrist watch. 'Eight-thirty p.m.? Time for a dozen assorted murders? A quiz? A revue? A comedian falling off the stage?' ...

...M7D1: On the SOAP box 1. How would you characterize the interaction between the physician and the patient in the video? Would you consider this a good interaction? Why or why not? In my opinion, I believe the patient and physician (nurse) relationship was well established. The medical interview performed was very effective and efficient. She was able to gather information, develop and maintain a therapeutic relationship, and was able to communicate with him. The patient seemed to trust the practitioner and disclosed information that people withhold (smoking). The patient was able to be honest in letting her know he smoked and abused antibiotics (prescribed and quit taking them). The practitioner was very warm and inviting which may have led to the patient being more open and relaxed and not feeling anxious with the practitioner. Some people develop white-coat syndrome when they are around doctors, nurses, or any medical type person. White coat syndrome is when the blood pressure surges when measured in the doctor’s office. However, I do not think his high blood pressure was the cause of white coat syndrome. I believe his smoking is a contributing factor to that because he seemed relaxed during the medical interview. 2. Based on what you saw, what parts of SOAP note were not covered? Were any missing? I believe all aspects of SOAP were covered. She came in and followed protocol by asking questions and documenting all his past illnesses and health......

Hello People

...John Rolfe (1585 - 1622) was a member of a group of settlers who journeyed to Jamestown in 1609. Rolfe’s infant daughter died on the journey to Virginia. His wife died shortly after arriving at the colony. Rolfe served as recorder for the colony from 1614 to 1619. He married Princess Pocahontas, the daughter of the Native American chief Powhatan, in 1614, and they had one son, Thomas Rolfe. In 1616, John Rolfe returned to England with his wife Pocahontas. Rolfe returned to Jamestown after Pocahontas’ death on March 21, 1617. Rolfe became a landowner and married Jane Peirce before his death in 1622. Jamestown Settlement, 1607-1625 In 1606, the London Company received a royal charter from King James I to organize an expedition and establish colonies in North America. The Plymouth Company would establish the short-lived colony in Maine (see AJ-042). The Virginia Company set up England’s first permanent colony in Jamestown, Virginia. Their primary goal was profit; investors hoped settlers would find valuable natural resources, such as lumber, herbs, pitch, and even gold, to send back to England. However, the English government also wanted to resist the Spanish colonization of North America (see AJ-077 for the report of a Spaniard on the Jamestown colony.) One hundred and four men and boys came ashore in May 1607-no women arrived until the following year. Over the next three years almost eight hundred settlers would arrive to colonize the Virginia coasts-six hundred of them...

...Hello Life is difficult. There are choices to make, things to understand, people to love and so much more. As a child, the most important things in life can sometimes be hard to understand, good or bad. Therefore, a life threatening and traumatizing experience will not always affect children the same way, as if they were more mature and old enough to understand the true meaning and consequences of an accident. In the short story ‘Ice Break’ by Astrid Blodgett we are introduced to the main character Dawn, who through the story goes on an ice fishing trip with her father and younger sibling. But on this trip, the ice collapses beneath them, while they are still in a truck and they begin to sink down into the icing cold water. ‘Ice Break’ is told by a first person narrator, Dawn, where we see the story from her point of
view. Dawn is approximately 12 years old, since she has just started working as a babysitter and thinks that five dollars is a lot of money. Since Dawn is such a young main character, she is more reliable as a narrator, because children almost always tell the truth. She lives with her parents and her two siblings, the older sister Marla and the younger sister Janie. Dawn has an awkward relationship with her father: “I didn‟t want to be alone with Dad. [...] we both ended up saying all the wrong things” (Page 4 lines 90-93). So when Dawn is forced to go with her dad on a fishing trip, she persuades Janie to join them by giving her a 5 dollar bill. On the trip,......

...exaggerated facial expressions (e.g when picture-perfect smiling was taken to frightening extremities). When we added dialogue the overall approach seemed mocking of this 'perfect lifestyle'. Alice's line "it is hard being a man" showed how we scorned this unequal representation of men and women. Whilst discussing, Ella brought up the shared disbelief of the fact that it was only about sixty year s ago that women would've lived like this. The idea of respectable women taking it seriously was unfathomable. We then created characters based on women at a point of unhappiness. We used the Stanislavski method, meaning we first constructed our characters lives before approaching acting. I find this an effective way of seeing the characters as real people. By knowing their lives in detail, concentrating on even the minute seemingly unimportant details, we create a person who we're able to relate to, and therefore act more convincingly. My character was a very high-powered businesswoman who'd discovered she was infertile. Someone commented afterwards on the opposites in the situation, a modern woman wanting children, a need deemed as out-dated to women like her. I learnt a lot from the diversity of the other pieces, each individual story told so much. For example, Clementine used an effective drawn-out repetitious sound in her opening alluding to a housewife chopping vegetables. The harsh sound made the image seem sinister and set the tone for her entire piece. Lucy took the......
