Television has been broadcasting for a long time and now, it seems like a part of everyone’s life. This is because television has access everything such as news, film, music, etc to people. But nowadays, it seems like a perpetrator affects badly on kids mental for some reason. Firstly, children are being taken affect from fear of violence. Small children don’t have a good realization so they can’t distinguish between realistic and fantasy (Lane 2007). As a result, they can easily be trauma and being a victim of violent crime. Secondly, effect from negative information set up bad stereotypes and behaviours (Lane 2007). For example, smoking and drinking alcohol is a bad manner in an exciting environment. Young children are easily impacted by actions of their idols. They are too young to recognise which behaviour is right or wrong. They only want to show off themselves to be the same whom they admire. We need to teach them it’s a blind action. Next, commercials, exaggerated sense and distorted sense of materialism are also some effects that attack to children (Lane 2007). More and more game show and films or any programs give prominence to money or jewels. It makes them think little about sentiment and just notice matter. ...of corporate wellness and employee-assistance programs. "So you should eat like an athlete." At the very least, that means lots of lean protein, fruits and vegetables, and complex carbohydrates; no processed foods; and minimal white flour and sugar. But when you spend all day confronting challenging mental tasks, the brain's nutritional demands are greater. For example, have you ever worked so hard that it felt as though your brain were on fire? It sort of was, says Patti Milligan, director of nutrition at Tignum, a consultancy that helps businesses boost employee performance through holistic wellness programs. "You produce lots of oxidants in the brain when you're working," she says. "Foods that are high in antioxidants--berries, beans, apples, tea--act like flame retardants." And don't forget water. "The brain is 70 to 80 percent water," Milligan says. "When it's metabolically active 10 to 12 hours a day, removing metabolic waste from the brain requires optimal hydration." She suggests "super-hydrating" with two cups at the beginning of the day and avoiding "dehydrators," like processed sugary foods, high doses of caffeine, and soda. And watch out for "brain fog," which can be evidence that you need to hydrate. Speaking of caffeine, "coffee depletes serotonin, which contributes to a sense of well-being," says Barbara Mendez, a New York City nutrition consultant who works with many business clients. "If you have it on an empty stomach, that quick delivery to the......

You Are What You Eat

...You Are What You Eat Linand Blanc Professor Pamella Robinson Principles of Sociology 7/30/2011   Abstract Some may think that carrots and brown rice are healthy eating habits here in the United States. However there are some places in the world including the US where toasted insects, roasted cat and dogs, and even raw monkey brains are a delicacy. Whether you yourself would eat these types of food or not, we know that humans have been consuming cats dogs and yes even monkeys for decades. But my question is why did they find the need to eat these types of meats? Were beef, chicken, fish and pork not enough? Or maybe we’re the ones who don’t know what delicacy eating really is. Maybe we shouldn’t have such a closed mind to eating cats and dogs. Maybe by the end of this week I will be one that becomes an Entomophily.   The Holy Bible goes into great details on what we can and cannot eat. The dietary laws prohibit eating pork, shrimp, and shellfish of any kind, most insects, scavenger birds, and various types of other animals. (Leviticus chapter 11) Although the Bible doesn’t say anything about the domestic animals such as cats and dogs but many religions consider the consumption of these animals to be taboo. In some parts of the word others have resorted to eating felines and k-9’s in desperation during hard times and poverty, and others believe that eating them will bring good luck or good health. Cats and Dogs In North China eating cats is......

You Are What You Eat

...You are what you eat! Often when we pass McDonald’s in the city, we see that all the seats are taken. The visitors cram their mouths with cola and burger, and we can’t be sure that these often swollen people do exercise. Yes, we are all aware of the fact that our society today suffers from the so-called obesity epidemic. You are what you eat. But if you eat too much obesity can have many serious consequences such as heart disease, diabetes and difficulties with walking. But we can look at obesity as a result of social inheritance, where poor people often buy cheap unhealthy food. On the other hand you can also be genetically disposed for obesity. Studies show that being physically active, the risk of obesity is significantly less. If these poor people begin doing exercise, then they will be healthier. To be with other people and do sport instead of being indoors close to the fridge might save you from being obese. The cause of obesity can also be that a big part of the population suffers from food illiteracy. Some people think that they can eat whatever – but that might result in obesity. It’s important that the population get taught about healthy food. But do we not live in a society where everyone should be able to distinguish between healthy and wholesome, wrong and correct? We are and will be informed almost every day about what is healthy and unhealthy, but perhaps it is something you should be taught in school. You need to get control of yourself, because it is......

How Much Is Too Much

...How Much is Too Much Many Americans today are angry. Displeases because of the painful recession and irate over outsized executive compensation packages at the very Wall Street firms widely blamed for the economic turmoil. Whom, many believe have rigged the game so that top level executives are rewarded handsomely even when they fail. A sharp increase in productivity over several years along with many companies enjoying record profits have only led to executives taking an increasing piece of the pie while those who have created the wealth (workers) have only seen their salaries stagnant. CEOs are being paid too much and it has little to do with their performance. These individuals might have worked hard to get there, and that is good. But if you said, “If you work harder, you would get paid more” that should mean teachers, nurses, police officers, and etc., should be paid a lot more than what they are currently being paid. In part, the issue is about equity – or the lack of it. Compensation for senior executives, especially CEOs, has climbed to levels that strike many as excessive under almost any circumstances. The Corporate Library reports that CEO pay at the nation’s 500 largest firms averaged about $10.9 million a year – plus another $364,000 in perks (Schings, 2014). The gap between the boss and workers has also stretched to levels that many find difficult to comprehend. The Institute for Policy Studies estimated that the average CEO earned about 319 times more......

...tell women what is most important in life is how they all look (Smeesters). What these teens are unaware of are the countless hours these models put in to get that one perfect picture for that one ad that also involves airbrushing, which contorts the entire ad itself. These models in the ads never have any flaws with their appearance, which makes these teens have a strong belief that if they show a flaw within their body image they are not “perfect” within society. What most of these young girls do not realize is these models that they are idolizing weigh 23% less than a typical women should weigh at that certain height and age (Clark). These ads contort the eyes of these young girls into believing that they should look identical to these models and when they realize that they do not look like them, they lose self-esteem. Unfortunately with these ads, some teens begin to change the way the eat, or do not eat at all to become more and more like these women society deems perfect. Body image reflects the way these women try to lose weight being that on average 44 percent of young teens are trying to lose weight throughout the world (Charles). These teens grow up constantly looking at these magazines that show models that are in no way healthy in the way they are treating their body and these teens always tend to want to look just like them. The ads bring out dangerous factors in these teens’ lives when it comes to their body image and how they begin to take care of their bodies......

...ENGL 111-A Essay 5 – Persuasion You Are What You Eat Did you know that there are twenty-one ingredients in that box of macaroni and cheese you are feeding your children? What is sodium tripolyphosphate? Can you pronounce it? Think about it, do you really know what you are feeding your children every day? Unfortunately, most of us do not. We all want to feed our families wholesome, nutritious meals, but in today’s busy world it seems almost impossible. Our grocery stores shelves are filled with food that is full of chemicals, pesticides, and refined sugars, but do not have much nutritional value. As a society we have got to start making smarter food choices. Obesity and diabetes have become an epidemic in this country due to the lack of proper nutrition. As working mothers, we have to get food on the table fast. Often, we have very little money to do it with so we buy what we can afford. This often means we end up feeding our family packaged and processed foods. Our children and our families are seeing the consequences of this in their health and weight. We need to stop thinking that it is too hard and too expensive to eat well, and get creative and persistent with teaching our children health eating habits while they are young. One half of school age children who are currently obese will still be obese when they become adults. (Serdula M. K.) Today, one out of every three Americans is considered to be obese. (mayoclinic.com) Obesity is quickly......

...You are what you eat Strayer University Author Note Abstract As a child when asked what I wanted to be when I grew up the first thing that I would say was, ‘a biologist’ not because it was the only big word that I knew at 8 years old it was because I knew that biologist got to study the very thing that I loved. ‘Life’ and ‘nature’. You are what you eat Imagine if you became the very thing that you ate. If your cells mutated into the cells of the very thing that you consumed. I would say that there would be a lot half-human half-beast walking around, if not already. THE SEA SLUG THAT BECAME A PLANT In a recent article published Sidney K. Pierce she shows her findings of how the emerald green sea slug lives months at a time by feeding on the sunlight, similar to a plant, (Photosynthesis) the article clarifies how the sea slug (Elysia chlorotica) absorbs the genes of the algae (Vaucheria litorea) that it eats, thus turning the slug into the very algae that it eats. The slug (Elysia chlorotica) manages to live for months by utilizing photosynthesis. To do this the slug stores the chloroplasts from the algae that it feeds on and by doing so, initiates a gene transfer; from one multicellular species to another. A new find for scientist. If not amazing enough that the slug can steal and store the chloroplast from the food that it eats it even goes as far as boosting the usefulness of the chloroplast 10 times longer than the algae that it adsorbed it from could......

You Paid How Much for That Seat

...Airlines charge different prices to different group of consumers for the same or similar product (price discrimination). Airline companies can segment customers with different price sensitivity- have different demand curves Tickets are offered at a different price depending on when you purchase it, at what time of the day, day of the week, services you purchase and cannot be resold. By offering different fares airlines are creating consumer groups who in turn will self select based on their elasticity of demand. This is an example of second degree price discrimination. The consumers pay different prices for different amount of quality of the good purchased.
Having market power, airline companies charge higher price to business travelers who are willing to pay more. Business travelers usually do not purchase in advance they do not select their travel dates and time they travel. Their ticket is not bound by restrictions (time, day of the week etc.) they do not chose when to fly and the cost is covered by their company. The other segment of customers are more price elastic and unwilling to pay higher prices. However, their ticket comes with restrictions attached to it. A firm is setting the price of its products given the market conditions and its desire to maximize profit. Since it sells the same product to different segments its marginal cost is the same for both groups. Most of the cost for a flight are fixed cost and are well known in advance. As the variable cost......

You Are What You Eat

...You Are What You Eat Ever wonder why organic food prices are higher than non-organic produce? For example, when shoppers go into the produce section of the store they see two parts, organic produce and non-organic. Non-organic strawberries are cheaper than organic strawberries. Why would the price differ if they are both the same strawberries? They may taste the same, but the non- organic strawberry have pesticide residue on it. Eating organic food is healthier than non-organic food, because organic food does not contain harmful pesticides, have a higher nutrient content, and does not contain genetically modified organism. Organic is referred to the way farmers grow and process their products. Organic food is better for the environment. Organic growers conserve energy by decreasing the use of fossil fuel. By organic farmers doing this, it helps to minimize the environment pollution. Farmers on an organically farm do not use harmful pesticides to grow their food. A pesticide is a substance used for destroying insects or organism harmful to discriminating animals and plants. Organic farmers use safer methods to protect their crops. One of the rigorous methods is trapping insects instead of using pesticides that can stay on non-organic produce. On the other hand, conventional growers use toxic substances to protect their crops. Even with washing off conventional produce there is still residue left on the food. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, pesticides......

...the eye. The dishes I create take me on a remarkable journey that leaves an everlasting impression of memories and stories. Can you say the same? Maybe not, maybe yes. Either way it goes let's imagine it can together. I remember the first time I tried my grandmother's Rice pudding. The memory is still fresh on my mind. The rice was sticky and creamy, raisins were ripe and perky, and the smell of the cinnamon indulged my senses, with each and every waking bite the pudding did a tantalizing salsa dance on my tongue that I will never forget. The very next day I asked my grandma can she teach me how to make her rice pudding, at first she was reluctant but eventually she gave in. The most important lesson that my grandma taught me, was in order to make this pudding successful, the rice had to be just right (no Uncle Ben's) this was drilled in my head over a dozen one times, no excuses. "Today as I stand over a bowl of cold water and rice, scrubbing, (Dash, 140) I felt a strong presence watching over me just like Dash felt when her Aunt Gertie was watching over her. So if I was to make a mistake today it better be on an ingredient and not the rice. I wasn't always a picky eater not until I got older and was able to pick and choose what kind of food went into my mouth.
