The practice of nursing is being regulated by National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) who has established set requirements for licensure, this requirements measure the competency level needed to perform effective and safe practice. Among which are the area of client needs which is divide into four categories:
 Safety and Effective Care Environment
 Health Promotion and Maintenance
 Psychosocial Integrity
 Physiological Integrity
All these categories have been integrated into the nursing courses in subjects like Fundamental of Nursing, Pharmacology and Medical-Surgical. These courses focus on Nursing process, caring, communication and documentation and patient teaching/learning. As a student nurse, I am expected to be able to demonstrate a minimal level of competence in these areas. At this time I can say I am averaging at 79.36% in both Kaplan Integrated testing and Sanders Assessment test on these categories. There is a desperate need and room for improvement for me as long as I can develop effective study strategy.
Using Testing Strategies
It is imperative for me to use the Sander Testing strategies while studying for examination in order for me to be successful. These Strategies are but not limited to:

In some cases this may be true because of the lack of knowledge of the available benefits that the colleges have to offer, especially when you’re coming straight out of high school or returning to school years after you have graduated from the 12th grade. But in the foremost case, students usually elect to take the four year University Degree, in some cases this may be wise, but people should give more consideration to attending Community College, because of the ease of attending, the lower cost and the flexibility of the classes. One of the best things is there are no enrollment essays to submit for admissions like you have in your Universities like Harvard or UNC. The test scores whether high or low still allow you to attend the school at different levels until you achieve the college course status. Then there is registration which is very easy with its open admissions policy that allows all to attend and achieve successfully. Another good thing about attending Community College is the residence cost for each credit hour is lower that the Universities. With the cost of living this is a plus for State residence. Raising a Successful College Student

...Raising a Successful College Student Carol Woods GEN/200 In order to be a successful college student personal responsibility must be learned at an early age. Children must learn personal responsibility, time management skills, and family values when they are young. If children develop a strong responsibility foundation they will develop into a successful college student. Personal responsibility is something that is taught to you throughout your childhood and developed throughout your adult life. A child is taught family values daily from the time they begin to walk. Parents begin to pass on their own values system and this is what a person’s responsibility foundation is built on. In order for a student to be successful in their college career they must already have been taught personal responsibility throughout their childhood. Children should be given household chores at a very young age, like picking up their toys, making their beds, and even feeding the family pet, at this age they are exposed to the family values at its core. Children begin to realize what responsibility is through these chores. Experts believe that any type of household responsibilities, are important for kids (Dunnewind, 2004). Successful Tips on Becoming a Successful Student

...As I read Lake, A., & Von Baeyer, C. (2005). article, " Tips for Successful Students. " Retreived from I reviewed the characteristics of what it takes to become a successful student, and I feel that most of these traits listed in the article, I possess and utilize in my everyday life, at home, work, with family, friends, and colleagues, but if I had to choose one that is my strongest trait and one that would benefit me in being a successful student throughout this program. I definitely would have to say my strongest trait is that I am a very motivated and goal oriented person, who has a strong sense of self determination. I feel there is always room for self improvement and self growth. I welcome challenges that make me think outside of the box, that challenge me intellectually, utilize my critical thinking skills to problem solve or to formulate a solution or a new idea. Some of the reasons why I feel being goal oriented is my strongest quality are challenges that I have overcome in my life such as; successfully completing my nursing school program, being a new nurse and going above and beyond for my patients and peers my efforts were rewarded and I was promoted to charge nurse, the present job that I have been at for about 1.5 years I have been given the role of training new hires and have been chosen to work on various projects to streamline work flows that will ultimately improve education and teaching methods to the medicare...

Tips for Successful Students.

...Lake and von Baeyer's article, “Tips for Successful Students,” and Lecture One “Essentials of Baccalaureate Education,” I believe that I have a combination of different characteristics for being a successful student. My strongest characteristic is of a winning attitude. I believe that attitude is a strong characteristic because it involves self-determination and self-discipline as described in the article of "Tips for Successful Students", which is required in order to succeed when you set a goal. I believe that this characteristic will help me become a successful student in the RN to BSN program. I feel very strong about attitude being everything. Life is full of bunches of surprises and for me, how I show up is what makes all the difference in the world; and an attitude of self-discipline and determination.   Also, I want to take note on the article of "Tips for Successful Students". On the second part of the article there is a statement as follows "Successful students can be distinguished from the average student by their attitudes and behavior. Below are some profiles that typically distinguish between an "A" student and a "C" student. Where do you fit in this scheme? I think this is a great question to pose. I believe that us humans are multifaceted, multi layered and to me I find it very difficult to place myself in a category of between a "A"student and a" C" student. How to Be a Successful Online Student to strive for and in the technical world of today, a student needs to decide if the online structure will work for them. Proverbs 1:5 says “Let the wise listen and add to their learning and let the discerning get guidance” (NIV). Knowledge is power and I believe God wants us to pray and search for information about the college we are supposed to attend and most importantly if we are able to attend online. Ecclesiastes 10:10 states, “If the ax is dull and its edge unsharpened, more strength is needed, but skill will bring success”(NIV). When choosing to go to college online, the student must have strong personal and learning characteristics along with certain factors that will help make the online student successful. Summary The article that I chose to read was ‘Student Preparation For Distance Education’, by Mark Taormino. It was very enlightening and it talked about some great points to achieve successfulness with online learning. One of the points that the article talked about was having a strong personal characteristic such as integrity and to be motivated. The definition for integrity is to be honest and fair and to be complete or whole. Integrity is one of the major keys while on this journey. It’s not just making sure you avoid plagiarism or cheating, but keeping your nose the grindstone and keeping yourself motivated when you want to quit everything. Another strong characteristic that a student will need to have is being able to be an......

Define a Successful College Student

...2011 Define A Successful College Student Many students new to college do not know what it takes to be successful in the college environment. They understand good and bad grades in a general way, and they sense that they should attend classes, but that is where their knowledge begins and ends. College students must learn that becoming successful requires good study skills, time management and most importantly motivation and self discipline. Before you start studying, you need to figure out your learning style. You might need to focus more on paying attention in class than taking notes; a mini recorder can help. Establish a study group. This is very helpful in learning material. Since your professor may not always be around to answer your questions, the people in your study group may be able to help. Not only can they help you but a study group is way more fun than doing it alone. It is also a way to meet people in your classes. Also, make sure you have a regular time and quiet place for studying every day. Managing the time is an important factor that every good student must possess. All time management begins with planning. Use lists to set priorities. Create a weekly calendar to make a time budgeting guide. Write down all the things you want to do include homework due dates, or subjects you want to draw attention to. Often delaying the tasks, such as writing assignments, reading text books, etc, may negatively impact the ability of a student to achieve......

Successful Online Student

...Characteristics of Successful Online Students Are you motivated, responsible, and goal oriented? If you said yes, then going to school online might be for you! But before you apply to an online program, there are a few things to consider. In order to be a successful online college student, you must either be or seek to become motivated, responsible, and goal oriented, for without these characteristics, you will have great difficulty accomplishing your assignments. In the article I selected, “Students’ characteristics, self-regulated learning, technology self-efficacy, and course outcomes in online learning” (Wang, C., Shannon, D., & Ross, M. 2013), several topics were covered. Some of the topics included in the article are; self-regulated learning, relationships between technology self-efficacy and course outcomes, students’ characteristics, motivation, and course outcomes. However, the main focus of this essay is what the article has to say about the different characteristics that make online students successful. Out of everything I have learned from the article I chose, the thing that stands out the most is that it doesn’t take a certain personality to succeed in the world of online learning. It takes characteristics that I believe, can be learned and practiced. Something that did surprise me though was that in some cases, gender was a deciding factor in self-efficacy as it applied to technology and academics. “Conversely, Brown et al. (2003) found that males......

Characteristics of Successful Students

...Topic 1: Discussion Question 1 Read Lake and von Baeyer's article, “Tips for Successful Students." Also, review the characteristics of a successful student as explained in the lecture. As you consider these, which is your strongest characteristic? Why? How will this characteristic help you to become a successful student in your program of study? I have always said that I am responsible for my own education. We only get out of school what we put into it. The instructor is there to present the information and provides a framework for understanding. It is my job as a student to fill in the spaces with my own understanding. I can clarify my understanding by asking questions, which I am poor at doing, and by doing research, which I do very well. I am not a good questioner. So, I really feel that my strongest characteristic is my responsibility and accountability. The best instructors I’ve had are the ones deemed “intimidating”. The same is true for my work environment. The best leaders were always a little scary to me. But once I got past the intimidation factor, I found that they actually had the most things to teach me. And that is when I would ask questions! Secondary characteristics that will help me be successful are my time management and note taking. I am forever writing things down. I find that if I hand write something, there is a connection between the writing of the information and my recall of it later. So if I want to remember something, I write it down. That......

Successful Student

There are plenty of methods people use to become a better student, let’s focus on reading, writing and time management. By hitting these points we will break down how a student turns his academic life around and succeed in the classroom. Listening to your professor for four hours and taking down notes can be effective, but have you ever heard that reading everyday can help you expand vocabulary, comprehend new situations and become smarter? Finding an hour of your schedule to sit in a quiet place and read a book a month can help you advance your thought process. Read the chapter summary, and don’t just jump in to the book with out an understanding of it. As you begin reading, take notes and understand what the author is interpreting, it is a great technique to acquire. According to Emory University, located in Georgia, reading a novel improves brain function, and flared up parts of the brain where the receptivity of language is located. “the purpose of reading is to connect the ideas on the page to what you already know.” (Martin, pg. 7). Note taking is one of the most important things you can do in a class, unless you record the lecture of a professor. Notes lets you comeback to a certain point and re read what was being said. Writing down things helps......

Successful Students

...Tips for Successful Students Throughout my whole life, I can always remember time management being a strong point, whether it be in school or work. The statement, “you will either control time or be controlled by it” (Lake, A. & von Baeyer, C. 2005) has always lingered in the back of my mind, as my parents would say this to me often when trying to balance life, school, and work. Having a strong sense of time management has given me the ability to balance whatever it is I am confronted with. Whether it be finding time to do school assignments while working full time and also continuing my busy life, or whether it be passing meds, doing dressing changes, placing a foley, and admitting a patient all within a busy hour, time management is essential. Not only does it allow for a less-stressful flow, it also allows me to accomplish my tasks in a timely fashion and feel organized and in-control of what I am doing. I feel having this characteristic as a strong point will help me in this course because not only do I work full-time at night, but I also- like most other students- have a busy life surrounding me as well. Being able to manage what is laid out in front of me will assist in me being a successful student, without neglecting work or my personal life. Procrastination isn’t in the equation for being successful, as leaving tasks for later can lead to mistakes or to be forgotten. Scheduling your time can only be done by you; Do it wisely. (Richie S. & Alspaugh, L.......
