1. Vision *(Knowledge)
2. Ability to motivate *(Value)
3. Efficiency *(Knowledge)
4. Organization *(Knowledge)
5. Control *(Knowledge)
6. Ability to plan *(Knowledge)
7. Positive attitude *(Value)
8. Sense perspective *(Value)
9. Respect *(Value)
10. Trust *(Value)

I believe that a manager is very important for many different reasons. All of the characteristics that I listed above will help a company. First it is important to have a personal vision in order to motivate others to work for you and your company. When the vision is to be at the top, you need to have a plan and be very organized. All of your employees need you to help them do their jobs correctly, so a manager has to always be sure that there is a plan to help their employees and help them be successful within the company. Since managers have a lot of responsibilities and not very much time but they need also be efficient. Managers tend to have very little time, and so it is important that they keep their time organized and do as much as they can in the small amount of time that they have. Control is something that is important to many managers, because no one can keep an entire company running if they cannot control what is happening within the company. Someone always has to be in control and it should be the manager otherwise, complete chaos can and will happen. Good managers also keep a sense of understanding. Many employees look to their managers for understanding and guidance. When a manager shows their employees respect and also gains their trust, the employee will not feel intimidated by their manager and will be more comfortable with their job. A group that works together should be able to rely on each other. They are working for the same goal for the company. Employees work better, happier, and…...

...Check Point: Researching Human Service Agencies Teresa Laing HSM/210 June 7, 2013 Laneisha Searls There are many Human Service agencies that provide assistance to countless of people in need here in Arkansas. These agencies provide assistance in shelter, food, medical and care for the elderly, child welfare and assist many in finding employment. These are only a few of the many ways that Human Service workers help in providing assistance to all people here in Arkansas. While there are many services, I have chosen two that I am personally involved with through volunteer work. * ElderChoices Program: ElderChoices is an Arkansas Medicaid home and community-based waiver program designed for the elderly population. ElderChoices, approved effective August 1, 1991, is designed for persons who due to physical, cognitive or medical reasons, require a level of assistance that would have to be provided in a nursing facility, if it were not for the services offered through this program. The major goal of this program is to provide services that assist eligible persons to remain in their homes or live with family in order to prevent or delay institutionalization (“DHS division Of Aging and Adult Service”, n.d.). * Division of Behavioral Health Services: Children’s Services The Division of Behavioral Health Services (DBHS) ensures mental and behavioral health care is available to children and youth throughout the state. Outpatient mental health services are available......

When you share the majority of your vision and goals for the organization in hopes they wish to be a part all that your organization has to offer them, they will strive to be all they can to the organization, as long as they feel appreciated and are compensated for some of their hard work. The manager’s commitment to providing excellent leadership provides an incentive for the employees to be willing to take part in the organizational efforts of making the organization more known or by creating more......

...Check Point: Environmental Factors Holly Regan HSM/220 September 11, 2013 Melissa Lichau Check Point: Environmental Factor Economic, Sociological, Technological, and Political & Professional factors are the four external environmental factors which help organizations achieve optimal functions. 1. Suppliers and competitors, 2. Clients or consumers, 3.funding: as funding resources are secured through grants, contracts and other sources, each funding source becomes an important part of the agency’s relationship with the external environment. 4. Noncash revenues. Technological factors refer to any computers and/or software. Sociological factors worry demographics in communities. Political & Professional factors are mainly deeply concerned with any local, state and federal laws and regulations, along with those also created by the people living in surrounding communities. According to our text, Kettner (2002) describes how Montana and Charnov (1993) use five factors as an organizing framework for understanding the internal environment: financial resources, physical resources, human resources, technological resources, and corporate culture/ethics and they have three levels of organizational planning: strategic, long-range, and operational planning. To better understand why you propose different models for different environments and organizational planning is why you should break down each situation that relates to an organizational planning process and utilize......

...Check Point: Management Structures Holly Regan HSM/220 September 12, 2013 Melissa Lichau Management Structures Departmentalization is conducted in six different ways or in relation to six different set of circumstances that have been departmentalized categorically. I process, in these six different ways to departmentalize, each has its very own unique way of precisely targeting the necessary criteria which could be by program, by function, by market, by consumer/client, or by geographical area. In order to be successful with each type of departmentalization, the board must effectively and precisely pinpoint its general area of need and what it will take to be successful in terms of assistance in these particular areas. Matrix organizations are kinds of structures that a categorized flexible and responsive and are characterized by employees having more than one supervisor and in order for them to perform at their highest level of productivity, they must have some area of expertise that is disciplined. The project team happens to become a creation of several highly imaginatively intelligent groups of people that are formed to collaborate with each other and strive at creating more diverse ideas, or putting a different take on some of the many already formed ideas and the opinions of those more diverse ideas. The collegial model works flawlessly when each member is able to be independent, but equally share management responsibilities or work out a specific......

Hsm210 - Wk 7 - Check Point - Comparing Values

...Check Point - Comparing Values HSM/210 January 10, 2014 Check Point - Comparing Values 1. What values underlie your desire to help others? The values that underlie my desire to help others I believe came from my parents. They always taught me to respect all people, and not judge anyone by the color of their skin or their level in society. With this said, I believe the values I have that underlies my desire to help others are tolerance of others and fair play. I believe you should not judge someone until you have walked a mile in their shoes and everyone should be treated the same no matter what their place in society might be. 2. What social issues do you feel strongly about? The social issues I feel most strongly about are the poor treatment and abuse of children and the elderly. There is no excuse to abuse anyone, much less someone who cannot defend their selves. The thought of anyone abusing a child makes me angry because of the fact I have two step-children who were severely abused by their biological mother before their father was able to get full custody of them. 3. What would you like to accomplish in human services? The one thing I would like to accomplish in human services is to work with the elderly population because I feel they are forgotten about. I would like to lobby my local politicians to have stricter laws in place about elderly abuse and how long-term care facilities are inspected to......

Hsm210 - Wk 8 - Check Point - Evaluating Communication Strategies

...Check Point: Evaluating Communication Strategies HSM/210 January 17, 2014 Check Point: Evaluating Communication Strategies In order to communicate effectively with the multicultural group of women, children, the elderly and homeless, it is important to first learn how to communicate with them. To reach an understanding with each group it is essential to appreciate and understand each one of them, and to be kind and honest with them all when giving any kind of feedback or sharing experiences. It is also good to keep yourself in check to make sure you are aware of how your behavior and personality is affecting others. When you interact with each group, you should accept every person for who they are and not the current state of their life in general. Furthermore, you must show interest in helping them, while having the patience and understanding to do so (Burger & Youkeles, 2004, p. 195). One of the best strategies used for communicating with each of these clients are listening, communicating, giving honest feedback, observing their visual cues in order to gain insight, or to clarify their situations back to them to make sure you understand it by highlighting their struggles. Then summarize the situation and struggles to see what their most current, pressing needs are that you could help them take care of (Burger & Youkeles, 2004, p. 202). Moreover, in order to adapt your communication approach from one individual to the next you must be aware......

...Natasha Arrington HSM 220 WEEK 2 Environmental Factors The environment has a great impact on every individual and its influence on every person reflects on how he or she lives her way of life.  Most of the times, the environment is the one where most people learn lot of things which a person does not learn or cultivate inside his or her home.  If the environment is well-managed and well-cared, everything will be very much in order and organized.  If an individual joins a group or organization, that is when things become related to one another, one learning to the other and then shared within the group.  If the environment already gave a great start up with these individuals that comprise a group, a vision of a successful organization can be achieved. The four external environmental factors that help the human service organization successful and achieve optimal function are the following: Government: The assistance of government to human service organizations plays a vital role to a continuous support and function of the organization. Economy:  This is the describing factor when and how funds are to be distributed and how much are to be given away to assist people in dire needs. Technology: The modern technologies make life simpler.  If the technologies and machines needed by the human service organizations are present, a more efficient service will be granted to those who need the service. Businesses: Usually successful businesses caused by good economy......

Discussion Q Wk 1 Bis/220

...Some of the challenges the entertainment industry faces with internet sharing is loss of money. More people have the ability to download music, movies, and other products illegally because of “sharing” web-sites such as limewire, frostwire, and bear share. The entertainment industry does not have a way to track these illegal downloads and numerous people know that the chances of being prosecuted are extremely small. Some people believe that what they download has little effect of the entertainment industry and no one suffers in the process. If one takes into account that one person downloads a CD that costs $16, that one CD for that one person does make little difference on the larger picture. Take that one person and multiply it by 1 million, which is likely a fraction of the amount of illegal downloads; the entertainment industry will now have lost $16 million. Imagine the ramifications if each person downloaded two or three CDs each. How much less would CDs cost if every piece of music was purchased properly. Education has opened my eyes to see that piracy can harm entertainment companies. I was not aware that not just illegal downloading but copying or uploading friend’s CDs, movies, and other items is also considered piracy and hurts the entertainment industry. Educating the general population, I believe will help reduce piracy and potentially decrease the purchasing cost of movies and music. Creating anti-piracy ads and presenting them at the movie theatres and on......

...10 Characteristics for Effective Management April Flory HSM220 April 25, 2014 Susan Anderson 10 Characteristics for Effective Management Having a good understanding of the organization’s vision is important because you will want to move the company into that direction. In addition, a person will want to know what the vision is because it may go against their beliefs. Having good communication skills is important to be able to effectively communicate the vision statement to others, such as employees or community. In addition, as a manager a person will have to effectively communicate what needs to be done in order to follow the vision. Having good communication skills is knowledge-centered. Any situation needs someone that can look at it from all sides to find the best solution for all involved. Becoming a critical thinker is a learned trait, knowledge-centered. A well-organized manager can get more work done and in the long run that can save money for the organization. Saving money for the organization means more money that can be spent on needed items, or even opening up a new department. Organization skills can come naturally, but it is not a value, so knowledge-centered. Analyzing data will allow them to continually improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization. Analyzing data is a skill that needs to be learned, knowledge-centered. If a manager is going to get employees to do the work they are assigned to do they will need to know how......

... An employer may want to limit how an employee uses e-mail during work in order to limit the chance of a lawsuit from someone outside the company. E-mails are often hacked and sent to the people it was never meant to reach and sensitive information about the company may be inadvertently compromised. Personal e-mail use during working hours also cuts down on productivity and may cause a company loss of revenue. An email’s path once it leaves an organization is through a mail transport agent or MTA which will begin the electronic message process. Then the e-mail will go to a mail delivery agent also known as MDA which then sends the message to the recipient’s e-mail inbox. Two servers work together to deliver the message from point A to point B....
