Love is the greatest gift we can ever hope to give or receive. Love is the one thing that can overcome so many of the difficult times that we are faced with in life. Love is so powerful - it can turn frowns into smiles. It can help mend the most broken heart. It can even turn all of the ugliness in the world into the most beautiful portrait we could ever have the pleasure to behold. Such a monumental task - of course... it could be. But only if we try to do it alone. Instead, if each of us, in our own small way contributed just a little - together, the task can become the reality we're reaching for. As potent as what love can be, it can only work it's magic if we choose to allow it to. For that to come to pass we must let go of the other emotions that can get in love's way. How is that - you may wonder? Consider the thought that...
Anger - It's normal, but holding on to it indefinitely isn't really necessary. Let it go... Forgiveness is so much better for the soul than holding on to a grudge. Not only will the person you're angry at be happier but so will you.
Harshness - Harsh words take just as much effort and energy as kind ones do. Why not consider your choice of words before you speak them and choose gentler ones to get your point across.
Impatience - Aren't we all guilty of this at one time or another? Keep reminding yourself of the old saying - "Patience is a virtue" - who wouldn't want to be a little more virtuous? (Webster describes "virtuous" as being of moral quality or excellence)
Envy - We all know the saying here - "The grass is not always greener on the other side". Take that to heart and concentrate on "fertilizing" and "watering" your own to get it just as "green" as your neighbors' "lawn". You may wind up being the one envied instead.
Mistakes - We all make them! So when someone else does, forgive them as you…...

A Death in All It's Own

...English 080 A death in all its own Looking at me now, can you see the hell I’ve been through? No you can’t because I know I hide my dance with hell particularly well. You would never think to expect the women you see now ever had a brush with heroin. I’m not even sure I want to tell this story; but it needs to be told. Every person lives through things differently; every person handles different situations in their own way. My story will not be the same as the next, I imagine this is the very reason I chose to tell it. Not every relationship is butterflies and rainbows. Abuse is not always physical; it can be emotional and mental as well. How many times can someone get pushed down every time they try to get back up? Before they stop trying and decide to just lay there? He hit me; sliced my tires when I tried to leave; locked me away from my daughters; pushed me into a wall when I was seven months pregnant with our son; threw me up against steps and almost broke my back. The list of things that were done to me by him can go on and on. I won’t go into it all. See he was addicted to all different types of drugs and had anger issues worse then a hurricane. He got me started into all of it. Yes I had the choice to make. When it comes to either do this or never see your children again; you do what you are told, especially when you know if you don’t the worst will happen. That “relationship” already had me feeling like there was no way...

Essay About Love

...ESSAY ON LOVE What is the one emotion that has everyone mystified? What is the one emotion that has started as many wars as it has ended? What emotion has had more plays, songs, and stories written about it than anything else? Love, that one emotion that makes enemies into friends and friends into enemies. So many legends surround this emotion, from the goddess Athena and Helen of Troy to Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Love comes in so many different levels, that it doesn't appear to be the same emotion at all, but it is. There is so much to love, that it will be hard to put into this simple essay. It can tear people apart and make us do irrational things to bringing together entire nations. What can this emotion not do? It's hard to tell, but there is a lot it can. This emotion, bring tears to our eyes when something happens to our family members, friends, and pets. When we feel love ripped from us, as in death or being spurned by another, we do things we wouldn't normally do, such as go on violent rampages, or mourn to the extent that our loved ones have to watch us constantly to make sure we don't try anything like suicide. Some can move on, always remembering the lost loved one after a while, but others can not let go. These are the ones that need our love and support the most. There are so many levels to love, that I can only express a few of them here. These are the ones we see most in life. Friendship starts this list off. Yes, it doesn't seem like it, but...

The Truth About Love

...the truth about love, but I kept on asking myself, what is the truth about love? Is it the way two people fall in like and then the feelings develop to love? Or is it the way they illustrate each other the affection? I don’t know because I feel like I haven’t experienced true love. Yes, I’ve had my fair share of relationships, but I think those are the kind where in we just felt like we needed someone to be with. Like we needed someone to share something with. Now I know what you’re thinking. How old are you anyway to feel and think this way? Tell you what, I’m too young to know the truth about love, but at the same time, too old to be innocent and naïve. Now this isn’t about love in general. This is about the truth. Why the truth if I can make up my own? Because to me, it is important. It may not to you, but it is to me. I don’t know what got me thinking this way. Maybe because we lie too much. We even lie to ourselves to think that what we felt, what we’re feeling, or what we’re going to feel is true love. The idyllic idea when we say love is relationships. Boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands, and wives. Those kinds of relationships. What if feeling true love is by making someone happy like your mom or your dad or your brother or your sister? So many options to choose from, but we always think about the romantic relationships. Why do we think like that? I don’t even know why I think like that. Like it’s the end of the world when you’re alone because no one cares about......

All About Me

...By far, my favorite application essay to write was Fuqua’s “25 Random Things About Me.” However, I was surprised to talk to other applicants and hear how difficult many found the essay to write. My advice for those of you struggling with this non-traditional essay is to just have fun! This is a great and unique opportunity to show your interests, personality, and what sets you apart as a person. I’m pretty confident that after reading my first blog (The Top 10 Reasons Why I Chose Fuqua), you thought to yourself, “Wow, this Trevor McKinnon sounds like an awesome guy. I wish I could get to know him better.” Well, it’s your lucky day! Below are some random things about me, and although this is not the same list I submitted as part of my application, it should give you the gist: 1. I was born in the US, raised in the UK, and have citizenship in both countries. 2. I played alto saxophone in a jazz nightclub in Prague. 3. My daughter’s name is Surrey. No, not because of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ daughter (Suri) and not because of the iPhone app (Siri), but because Surrey is where I grew up in England. And yes, people ask me those 2 questions all the time. 4. Surrey is spoiled: she had been to Disneyland more than 10 times before the age of 18 months, even though she’s never lived in California. My wife is from Orange County, so we would visit her family frequently while living in Utah, which always included multiple trips to Disneyland to get the most out of our......

Simple Truths About Love

...Simple Truths or LOVE It is simply a mystery why we fall in love. It is a mystery how it happens. It is a mystery why some love grows and it is a mystery why some love fall. You can analyze and look for reasons and causes, but you will never do more than take life out of experience. Love is more than the sum of interest and attractions and commonalities. That two people share. And just as life itself is a gift that comes and goes in its own time, the coming of love must be taken as an unfathomable gift that cannot be questioned in its way. Too often, when love comes to people, they try to l grasp the love and hold it to them, refusing to see that it is a gift that just as freely move away. When they fall out of love, or the person they feels the spirit of love leaving. They try desperately to reclaim the love that is lost, rather than accepting the gift for what it was. They want answer where there are no answers. They want to know what is wrong with them, or try to get their love to change, thinking that if some small things were different, love would bloom again. They blame their circumstances. They blame each other. They try to give anything to give meaning to what has happened. But there is no meaning beyond the love itself , and until they accept their own mysterious ways they live in a sea of misery. You need to treat what love brings you with kindness. If you find yourself inlove with someone , who does not love, be gentle with yourself. There is......

It's All About the Literature

...It’s all about the Literature Heather Henegar Grand Canyon University: RDG-514 July 2, 2015 It’s All About the Literature As with any area in curriculum and instruction, teachers should not be fully dependent on one source, but rather use a variety of resources to help students understand content. The same can be said with the use of textbooks. Teachers should supplement core curriculum with quality trade books (GCU, 2012). Trade books can offer a wealth of information such as a means to expand vocabulary, clarify concepts, explore real-world situations, and entertain (GCU, 2012). Furthermore, Johnson & Small, (2008) stated, “In contrast to textbooks, nonfiction trade books can support instruction in nearly every subject…which allows a teacher to front-load experiences with a concept” (p. 132). The following table lists trade books that can be used to enhance and supplement instruction in Math, Science, Social Studies, and Reading within a fourth-grade classroom. Book Title | Content Area | Summary | Appropriateness | Standards | Millions, Billions & Trillions by David A. Adler & Edward Miller (2013) | Math | In this book, Adler helps students to connect large numbers to other things they already know. There are also hands-on activities that can be done, such as using one-fourth cup of sugar to illustrate what a million might look like. This book also tells students how long it would take to count to a million, billion, and trillion (Adler &......

Mtv: It's Not About Music

...premieres, album release dates, and any and all other pieces of music related information was there. It changed the way the world perceived music. In the past years, it has fallen, from the once mighty music giant, to a predictable pop culture machine catering to the weak minded. When MTV first aired, it was filled with music, 24 hours a day. Every now and then, a commercial followed by a VJ setting up the next block or giving out some concert dates for a big tour. There were countdowns, specialty ’shows’ that catered to specific genres, with live events and specials thrown into the mix. The downfall began with a barely remembered show called Remote Control, a game show about pop culture, past and present, with a little sex and humor thrown in. The next year, another game show appeared with a dating show. From there various other shows spawned and MTV went further away from music with each progressing year. Focusing more on pop culture, the number of actual videos decreased, until you have what you see today, an MTV filled with reality shows and teen soap operas. 95% of the shows on MTV aren’t even music related. Even the one show on in the daytime that features music, TRL, is more talk and interviews, than music. You only see a clip from most videos on it’s countdown. It sad to see what was once the best media for music to be seen, heard, and discovered, turned into the pop culture advertising monster that it is today. MTV is more about advertising to the most spontaneous......

It's Not About Me Anymore

...Topic: clothes shopping before kids vs. clothes shopping after kids Controlling idea: it’s all about me/it’s all about them Points: appearance, frequency, experience Format: Introduction I. Appearance a. Before kids b. After kids II. Frequency c. Before kids d. After kids III. Experience e. Before kids f. After kids Conclusion It’s Not About Me Anymore My experience with clothes shopping changed seemingly overnight. One day I’m thrilled to find myself at a mall, the next day I dread going to any place that sells clothes. What was the reason for this sudden change? I married a man who already had two children; Kevin was seven and Haylie was five when I met their father. I became a mother, overnight, to two rapidly growing children. What I knew as shopping was no more. Before I became a mother, I loved going to the mall. I would spend hours getting myself all dolled up; who knew whom I might bump into. I made sure I looked perfect; my belt matched my shoes and my shoes matched my purse. My stylishly coifed hair glistened in the sunlight. After Kevin and Haylie came into my life, the sunlight never got to see my stylishly coifed hair. Instead, my tresses never saw the outside of a bun. The time that used to go towards my own appearance was now directed toward my children. I had to make sure the little ones were appropriately dressed for the weather. The same amount of time was taken to get ready; the......

It's All About the Law

...It’s All About the Law Diana Green May 16, 2012 Grand Canyon University: ESL 523N “Using state ballot initiatives to regulate the education of language-minority students is like using a sledgehammer to repair a wristwatch” (Mora, 2009, pg. 14). Issues of language use and instruction are a past, present, and future hotbed of debate. It seems that teachers are instructed on how to instruct, while voters are granted the power to make or break educational practices. California is one of the most volatile states when considering how best to instruct English language learners (ELLs). There has been regular discussion about the best way to educate ELLs. In 1968, the door to funding was officially opened for bilingual education. According to Purcell (2002), the Bilingual Education Act authorized federal funding for programs that addressed the needs of students who had limited English skills. With more cases of disgruntled students and parents, it was clear that the education of English language learners was not going to come easily. While the concept of bilingual education is admirable, the fact is that the delivery of the education left much to be desired. With the level of dissatisfaction, the need for reform had arrived. According to Purcell (2002), businessman Ron Unz funded a large portion of Proposition 227. Under Proposition 227, Limited English Proficient (LEP) students would be given instruction in “sheltered English immersion” classrooms for a period not to exceed...
