Life Styles Inventory Every individual thinks and behaves in different manners. The use of Life Styles Inventory helps to identify the elemental factors which impact the individual’s thinking patterns and behaviors. An individual’s personal life styles greatly contributes to the role one fulfills in the workplace; from how an individual is able to communicate with fellow employees and upper management to their ability to manage situations and positions of authority. The different categories include constructive styles, passive/defensive styles, and aggressive/defensive styles; each of these categories are then broken down into subcategories which describe in further detail the main categories. These subcategories include “humanistic-encouraging, affiliative, approval, conventional, dependent, avoidance, oppositional, power, competitive, perfectionistic, achievement, and self-actualizing” (Synergistics, 2016). By completing a life styles inventory, an individual has the ability to gain insight into their personal thinking patterns and behaviors and how each of these relate to their role as a manager, their leadership style, and how effective these are in their professional life. The Life Style Inventory

...The life Styles Inventory (LSI) is developed by Dr. J. Clayton Lafferty. The lifestyle inventory is a self assessment diagnostic instrument that measures 12 key thinking patterns or “styles”. The results of the self-description are plotted on a circular graph for easy visualization of how the individual thinks and behaves in the 12 LSI styles. By responding to these 240 inventory items, individuals learn exactly where they need to focus their development efforts, without uncertainty. It promotes performance change and improvement by increasing personal understanding of one’s thinking and behavior. These styles of patterns of thinking that can either help or hinder a person from reaching his or her potential. There are 3 LSI styles namely; 1. Aggressive/ defensive style. 2. ...The LSI which is stands for life styles inventory is a test that measures how you think and behave. When I took the test and received my scores I was shocked with some of the results that I got, and I thought to myself there is no way that some of these words are describing me and definitely not in the percentile that I placed into for example, avoidance I never would consider myself as a person who avoids anything whether it is something good or bad. People high in this style devote energy to coaching and counseling others, are thoughtful and considerate and provide people with support and encouragement. The three of these categories scored 40 and ranked in the 99th percentile, these would be considered my primary thinking styles. My secondary style is the affiliate style, which received 38 and ranked in the 93rd percentile. Pertaining to the 12 o’clock position, self actualizing, I feel that I relate to this style, however it is not the style I self identify with the most. Per LSI description, Self-Actualizers are effective because they seek possibilities in all opportunities. It also states that I have a strong concern for self-development, strong instincts & intuition, and I have an energetic and exciting approach for life. The achievement style is another style that I can relate to, but do not self identify with. I feel as though I have a personal need to be the over achiever; Especially in the academic world.
