Light Peak
Light Peak is a proprietary optical cable interface designed by Intel to connect devices in a peripheral bus. The technology has a high bandwidth at 10 Gbit/s, with the potential to scale to 100 Gbit/s by 2020.
Currently in development, Light Peak is being developed as a single universal replacement for current buses such as SCSI, SATA, USB, FireWire, PCI Express and HDMI, in an attempt to reduce the proliferation of ports on contemporary computers. Bus systems such as USB were developed for the same purpose, and successfully replaced a number of older technologies. However, increasing bandwidth demands have led to higher performance standards like eSATA and DisplayPort that cannot connect to USB and similar peripherals. Light Peak provides a high enough bandwidth to drive these over a single type of interface, and often on a single daisy chained cable.
As a single universal replacement for current buses such as SCSI, SATA, USB, FireWire, PCI Express and HDMI, Light Peak aims to remove some of the problems in the computer industry that are now apparent such as the limited transfer speeds and multiple connectors, many of which must be supported and then are often fated to go completely unused.
A major problem in single-cable connection is the maximum length of electrical cables – DC power and electrical signals diminish rapidly over more than 5 meter distances.
In theory, a device under 5m away could be easily served by either a 10Gb DC PoE or 4.8Gb USB 3 interface on a single cable for both power and data. However, if the device must be more than 5m away it will be separately powered by AC and must necessarily rely on an optical cable anyway to achieve sustained 10Gb speeds, whether this is an Ethernet "short reach" (300m) or Light Peak (100m) cable.

...Peak Oil Contrary to popular belief, your car may not have gas forever. In the 50s, M. King Hubbert predicted what is now known as the Hubbert Peak Theory. Over time, oil production will increase until it reaches the highest possible point, peak oil, then oil production will decrease forever. Hubbert's Hypothesis was tested in the 1970s when (he believed) oil production in the United States reached its peak and has steadily begun to decrease over time, with the exception of the discovery of the Prudhoe Bay oil field in Alaska (the last major oil field discovered on March 12, 1968.) Peak oil would mean a decline in not only gas powered vehicles but also oil products, such as gas used to heat homes and plastics used in everything from clothes and household products. However, many experts still debate when peak oil will occur. Optimistic predictions regarding when there will be a global decline in oil or the point of global peak production are around the year 2020 or later. Negative predictions regarding peak oil, argue that the peak has either already occurred or is right around the corner. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), production of conventional crude oil actually peaked around 2006. Unfortunately, we will continue to see a steep decline in our natural oil reserves. Dante's Peak

...Dante’s Peak is a movie that does an excellent job in portraying what an actual volcano eruption will look like if it occurred in the mountains. While watching this movie I believe that there are some fictional aspects that were implanted while creating the movie but it gives an overall feeling of a realistic approach to it. In the movie, volcanic gases quickly turn a placid lake into an acidic death trap as a family escapes burning-hot lava by boat, aided by a volcanologist played by Pierce Brosnan. The sudden activity and eruption of Dante’s peak which occurred in just a couple of days was similar to what happened at Mt. St. Helens in the 1980’s. Mt. St. Helens first eruption in 1980 came only a couple days after earthquake activity began. While watching the film I also found it very hard to believe that the eruption could do so much damage to the city but after doing some more research on the Mt. St. Helens eruption, buildings and bridges can indeed be destroyed rather quickly from molten lava and lahars. Volcanoes can very well erupt in a short time span and if we are not ready for it, we could be in a lot of trouble. Also the part when their grandma sacrifices herself and jumps into the lake to push their dissolving aluminum boat the last few feet to safety, kind of shows some realistic views of what will happen in real life to her and the boat. While on a movie set for any show, cinematographers are artists that paint motion pictures with light (Murphy 1). They must know that lighting is their main concern while in production. In order to solve the problem of faulty lighting, cinematographers should know when lights should be used, where it should be placed, and who it should be focused on; therefore, they must communicate with the director and the lighting engineer at all times because the lighting sets the mood for the image (Morales). There are many techniques that a cinematographer works with and people wonder how. An example is that most people wonder how cinematographers control their lighting while indoors when the subject is placed by a window. If subject is in front of a window and there is too much sunlight, take some aluminum foil wrapped around a piece of cardboard and turn it towards the subject so the light will reflect on the person face which will act as a key or filled light. The graphs created using data from the US Geological Survey 2009 show how production has increased significantly over the past 80 years, yet they also show how forecasting future production is very difficult task. Water is a natural resource (PBS, 2007). Like all other natural resourced on this planet, humans have decided to do with it what they please.
