The Bucket List

...The Bucket List Felicia Holland BSHS/342 September 1, 2012 Marcy Stern, PhD. The Bucket List The Bucket List is a film about two middle age men who have nothing in common other than that they are both diagnosed with terminal cancer. Edward Cole, a White man, is a billionaire who owns many hospitals. He is a self-made man with a bitter outlook on life. Edward has married and divorced four times, and has no relationship his only child. Carter Chambers, a Black man, is a blue-collar mechanic who once aspired to becoming a history professor until he gave up his dreams to support his growing family. Carter and his wife have been married for 45 years, they have three children. The two men eventually bond as they endure the rigors of their respective cancer treatments. Carter begins to draft a “bucket list” of the things that he wants to see and do before he dies. Edward finds the list and begins to add his own aspirations to it. He convinces Carter to leave the hospital with him, and they set off to fulfill their desires and wishes on the list. Biological Perspective Men and Cancer Cancer and cardiovascular disease are the leading causes of death in middle age with men being more vulnerable to disease than women (Berk, 2010). In men cancer deaths rate slightly higher than in women (Berk, 2010). The likelihood of survival is affected by the socioeconomic status of the patient. The SES of the two characters in the film is opposed. Edward is a wealthy man. He can afford to......

Schindler's List

...Jews (6 millions) were being killed during a time which most label as one of the darkest periods of human history. What does “Schindler’s List” stand for? It stands for the Jewish workers that Schindler bought from the German officer, Goeth, to work in his factory, the 1100 Jewish people that he saved eventually. Who were the best performing characters of the movie? Liam Neeson does well (as Oskar Schindler), but in particular I liked Ben Kingsley (as Istak Stern, Schindler's accountant) and Ralph Fiennes (as Amon Goeth, the camp commandant). All of the performances were very convincing and reflect the good casting. What was the color of the movie? The color of the movie was mostly in black and whit. Black and white give a historical connotation to the movie which in my opinion made it very distinctive. There were a very few colorized scenes though (the Jews praying at the beginning/ the Jews putting small rocks on Schindler’s grave) Why do we still make movies about world war II? The story of the Holocaust needs to be told over and over again, in hopes that future generations can understand the horrors perpetrated on an entire race of people and prevent such future occurrences. How is the movie in general? The making of this film took over a decade of preparation and it was well worthy the time spent. Schindler's List not only entertained but also educated and amazed millions of viewers with strong emotions. It's powerful scenes and insight into the......

The List

...The List Story by 10/16/2013 I find myself on the ledge of a building with two of his thugs grabbing me. I think to myself how did I get here? Should I have done what I did? Is this the end? I should start from the beginning. I grew up in a wealthy house hold. My father was well known for breakthroughs in the technology field. He was working on many projects but the one that made him a multi-millionaire was the work in self-sustaining energy. When I was eighteen, my father and I went on a trip to China, a trip that would change our lives forever. It was a pretty quiet plane ride. Dad was working on his laptop and I was listening to music. I noticed there was a very bad storm out of the window. The plane was shaking. Suddenly the lights went out and the oxygen masks deployed. Something hit my head. The next thing I know we are in the water and my dad is yelling my name. I see him in the distance swimming towards me. He gets to me and gives me his life vest. He tells me that I have to survive, that his company isn’t what I thought it was. He gives me a book with a list of names and tells me that everyone on that list has done terrible things to stay rich, and that he is no different. He told me stories of how he and the people on this list got wealthy by stepping on the necks of the poor. That he has had people hurt or killed to keep his company on top. He stayed with me as long as he could but as time went by he got weaker. He couldn’t......

Make a List

...Top 3 most pressured situations in school The concept of the list is the ironic and twisted way of thinking and acting as a student, when in a pressured situation at school. The list is made to give students a “wake-up-call” from the way they act, and to make them start realizing that school is not that hard and bad. 3. The “last minute assignment” It is a popular situation. You have got an assignment to do for the next day, though the wall is so much more interesting to look at than your blank paper of doom. You catch yourself staring into the wall, or going to the kitchen to get food over and over again, but nothing happens to your assignment. It is an eternal blank page of boringness. The letters just will not magically appear on it. Then the classic “screw this!” reaction comes to mind. You write a lot of useless junk, which is not even right and deliver it, only to get a really bad grade that you are probably going to cry about at night. This happens to students all over the world, and it is what brings the world to its end. Maybe 2012 is not just a prank. 2. The “I am not prepared” situation This happens every day for students all over the world. Yesterday ruined it all, your favorite TV-show was airing non-stop, and you end up in class tired as hell, with nothing to say. Suddenly your teacher asks you if you are ready make your presentation. You sit tongue-tied for a few seconds, though afterwards you man up, and tell the teacher you are ready, and you are going......

The Bucket List

...The bucket list The Bucket List; what can I say? The Bucket List is a movie starring Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson about the exploits in life they never got to accomplish and set out to do so after discovering they were going to die. It is an interesting take on death and how to deal with death. It shows many different viewpoints on the subject of death not just from the view of Edward (Nicholson) or Carter (Freeman.) This movie really makes you think about how you live your life. The Bucket List was considered one of the most uplifting movies of the year. These men both view death in different ways. Carter in the beginning accepted death; if he did not accept death yet the movie would have been over fairly quick. You can tell he accepted death because he started writing his bucket list as a metaphorical contract that states he has given his life and is ready to die. However towards the end of the movie it seems Carter has no longer accepted death because he refuses to go back home to his family after starting the list. I think he feels this way because he thinks when he gives up on the list that will signify the end. Edward in the beginning does not accept death he refuses to deal with funeral arrangements and the passing down of his possessions. Towards the end Edward realizes that his life has been fulfilled not from completing the list but truly finding a lifelong friend in Carter. It makes you wonder how different these men’s lives would be if they were not to......

List of Bank

...list ------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------- Bangladesh Bank raised the cash reserve requirement Bangladesh Bank on Monday raised the cash reserve requirement by 50 basis points to 6.5 per cent for scheduled banks to curb inflationary pressure on the economy, said officials of the central bank on Monday. A BB official told New Age that the central bank would mop up around Tk 3,000 crore from the banks by increasing the CRR, also known as cash reserve ratio, as the banks had excess liquidity amid a dull business condition. Under the new rules, the scheduled banks will have to maintain 6.5 per cent CRR with the central bank from their total demand and time liabilities on a bi-weekly basis. The BB issued a circular to managing directors and chief executive officers of all banks in this regard asking them to maintain the new CRR ratio from today (Tuesday). The banks will have to maintain the CRR at 6.0 per cent instead of the existing 5.50 per cent on daily basis, but the bi-weekly CRR will have to be 6.5 per cent, according to the BB circular. The new CRR comes after a gap of more than three years and six months. The central bank last increased the ratio by 0.5 percentage points to 6.0 per cent on December 1, 2010. BB raises bank statutory liquidity reserve requirement: The central bank, however, unchanged the rate of statutory liquidity ratio (SLR) at 19 per cent. The BB official said that the central...
