Nowadays different brands, companies and organisations compete with each other on different fields. It starts with the research, technologies, data management to the final strategy that is going to put them ahead of the others. “Organisations that understand their true strengths are better able to compete successfully in a rapid expanding and competitive world economy. A charismatic leader is generally an excellent communicator who vows people through the understanding of their traits, works on their weaknesses and emotions. They may not have a succession plan, example, to replace them. They often lack integrity and management skill in the workplace. This style suits people who are gullible, like to be led, who puts all faith in the leader, never questions but accepts readily. I can think of only a couple of ways that Jim Steiner could be considered having this style- his influence on his staff to follow his thoughts and deeds. He would also have to be a good and effective communicator. But that is where it ends. His influence is not for his own benefit but for his staff and the company. His gain is the success of his team. Through his integrity, promoting self belief, helping them take responsibility for their actions, making up their own minds, et cetera. He influences them. ...CASE STUDY Hennes & Mauritz, the leading Swedish clothing retailer and Sweden’s third biggest company, is attempting to become a world scale organisation. Expansion has already been successful in Europe, with 1010 of its 1134 stores located in 22 countries other than Sweden. The first steps to Internationalisation were taken in 1976 when a UK store was opened, followed by entry to Germany in 1980. Germany has been an especially successful market, becoming H&M’s most important market in 1995. Although H&M’s share of the German market is small, the low-priced, well-designed, value-for-money fashion lines are nevertheless popular and a store expansion programme is still underway. Sales outside Sweden generate 90% of turnover and that figure is likely to rise as more stores are added. In 2005, around 150 new stores were opened, mainly in Germany, France, Spain, Poland Italy and the USA, all following the same retail format. H&M normally opens its first store in a country in the largest population centre and then expands out to smaller centres.
