...At this time the United States of America does not required men to serve in the military like other countries? Well I have wondered why myself to. But I am going to point out three reasons on why I think men should have to serve in this essay. One being men need to learn discipline. Two we need to keep this country that we live in safe and secured. And lastly to boost our economy and put more people to work. Men should serve in the military to lean discipline. Men these day have no respect for there parents let alone the cops. The military will help train them to respect people above them. Not only that it will help them with work ethic from the discipline point of view to be able to do their job and work hard at doing it. They will break you down and build you back up through training and physical training. If you screw up they will teach you how to act and then make you do some kind of physical training so it will sink you to your head. W. Bush deployed U.S. forces into Saudi Arabia, and also urged other countries to send their own forces to the scene. An array of nations joined the Coalition. ...Controversy in the Military For the longest time homosexuals have had to deal with discrimination everywhere, including the military. When Bill Clinton ran for president, he gave a promise to the gays he would allow them to fight, but changed his stance when elected and did not follow through on his promise. Instead Clinton issued the policy Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell that still hindered the homosexual’s chance of getting into the military. Finally, now after years of discrimination, a Representative of the House wrote a bill that will allow homosexuals the right to join and fight in the armed forces. The H.R. 1283 Military Readiness Enhancement Act of 2009 states homosexuals can join the military and should pass for the benefit of all those who serve the armed forces. Official discrimination against homosexuals began during World War II. Before World War II, it was only African Americans who had a hard time joining the military, but then the military started becoming stricter on who can join and who cannot. The military started making people take a psychological test, where anyone who wanted to join the military had to get tested by a psychiatrist (Katel). If people claimed they were gay, they could not join the armed forces. Discrimination continued in every war America has fought until Bill Clinton came along. The recruiter then will start the process, one of the recruiter’s first assignments is to get the civilian ASVAB scores from their local high school or if the recruit is from out of town they can be retested on the ASVAB. The ASVAB stands for Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test and it accesses a recruit’s probability for enlistment, military job placement and career exploration after the military. ...“Left, left, left right left!” There I was marching down the scorching hot asphalt in the middle of July, summer of 2009 alongside my flight. First week of hell, basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, rethinking what I got myself into. Should I have just gone to college instead of volunteering for the service or should I be here serving the country? Week one seemed like the longest week I’ve ever experienced. Here we are in the second week of this prison like training. Staff sergeant (SSgt) Feete shouts “Wake up, you nasties,” it was finally time to get our uniforms issued from supply. Standing in an enormous room along the wall where they threw different parts of our uniforms at us. Last we receive our blouse with nothing on it besides the boring ABU pattern. They told us that we weren’t good enough and hadn’t earned the right to wear our name and Air Force patch on the uniforms. Feeling like I have been living in the barracks for eternity, even though it was only week three. Finally getting into the routine and starting to understand the military lifestyle. Day after day we are learning new tools we will be able to use in this career. Week three was all about self-aid buddy care, where we learn to treat our own wounds and provide first response to combat related wounds to other airmen. ...Why We Serve In the Military Sometimes it takes something terrible to realize what is important in life. When I was in the Army, I would constantly raise questions in my mind. “Why did I have to sacrifice being away from our love ones” or “Did we really need to protect anyone else other than our own”. It was 6:00 AM on a Monday morning. Everything was normal; I woke up, laced up my boots and went to work as a Squad leader over construction equipment operators. As I was driving to work my cell phone started to ring. I answered and on the other line was my 1st Sergeant; “Cotten I’m going to need you to come see me in my office for possible re-assignment”. At that point I thought he had a last minute tasking for me to go deploy to one of the countries in a faraway land. As I arrived at our unit’s building, I couldn’t help but think of the possibility of being gone for next twelve to eighteen months in a faraway country under a 100 plus degree sun. With palms sweaty and heart pounding at an incredible rate, I knocked and entered my 1st Sergeant’s office; “You wanted to see me Top?” I responded. “Yes, you are temporarily going to be assigned down the road as liaison for dignified transfers” he uttered. ...Have you ever wonder what it is like to be in the boots of a US Service Member during their deployment phase? Also have you ever wonder what it was like to fight in a combat zone and the trials and tribulation they face when the deployment goes on? Well I’m going to tell you the three phases of a deployment. First you start with the ceremony, the lonely flight and finally the trials and tribulations of the combat zone. As you well know I’m no longer in the military but I going to tell you these phases through my eyes when I was in the army during my combat tour in Afghanistan from June 2010 to June 2011. It all started when I first sergeant told us what time to be at the company so we can have our early formation before we head to the Green Ramp. If you don’t know what Green Ramp is, it’s the final holding area that separates the soldiers and the plane. The reason why they call it that because it’s a small ramp that leads to the plane and it has green lands on the sides of the ramp. The formation time was 0500 and the weather was so nice that I could hear all the early birds chirping away. The formation time came and the first sergeant held accountability for all the fellow enlisted and officers that were going with us to Afghanistan. When we all found out what time we were heading to Green Ramp, we all decided that this was going to be a very long day. ...Military leadership theory brings forth the discovery of many ideas regarding the application of knowledge from a military background in a business environment. Much information was premised on business owners, managers and employees working collectively, how to improve communication skills, and how to define a goal and motivate others to follow it based on military leadership. The connection between these two worlds of business and military is apparent. Many of today’s companies derive their structure and leadership model from that which is applied in the army. The military typically has a main leader or a decision \ maker, who transmits orders to subordinates at lower levels. This model is almost identical to what is seen in many business organizations throughout the world (Rost, 1993). The US Army defines leadership as “The process of influencing people by providing purpose, direction, and motivation, while operating to accomplish the mission and improve the organization” (Army Leadership, 2012). The 2016 national defense budget is 534 billion. I know that is a lot of money but can we really put a number on our safty. I got that fiqure from the Department of Defense website under fiscal year 2016 which started on Oct 1,2015 There are a lot of reasons we should maintain this budget but im going to highlight 3 of them. According to the Department of Defense website the US has a total 1,486,000 millitary personal on active duty with that in mind if we make cuts to the budget we could lose key personal in military ranks that could hurt us in some areas like intelligence, special forces and aviation. According to Global Firepower.com and business insider.com the United States has the best Trained Military personal in the World . My second argument is that in order to keep this elite status and to protect America we must maintain the budget and continue to train at a top level.
