The Heart

...you give your friends valentines and little heart-shaped candies on Valentine's Day? Do you ever cross your heart when making a promise that you really, really mean? Or turn on the radio to hear a guy singing about his broken heart? We see and hear about hearts everywhere. A long time ago, people even thought that their emotions came from their hearts, maybe because the heart beats faster when a person is scared or excited. Now we know that emotions come from the brain, and in this case, the brain tells the heart to speed up. So what's the heart up to, then? How does it keep busy? What does it look like? Let's find out. Working That Muscle Your heart is really a muscle. It's located a little to the left of the middle of your chest, and it's about the size of your fist. There are lots of muscles all over your body — in your arms, in your legs, in your back, even in your behind. But the heart muscle is special because of what it does. The heart sends blood around your body. The blood provides your body with the oxygen and nutrients it needs. It also carries away waste. Your heart is sort of like a pump, or two pumps in one. The right side of your heart receives blood from the body and pumps it to the lungs. The left side of the heart does the exact opposite: It receives blood from the lungs and pumps it out to the body. You probably guessed that the blood just doesn't slosh around your body once it leaves the heart. It moves through many tubes called......

I'M in an Island... It Pains Me to Be Quiet When My Heart Wants to Shout!

...I'm in an ISLAND... it pains me to be quiet when my heart wants to shout! A sailor was stuck in an island where he was the only survivor. He made a hut for his shelter day and night. He's praying and waiting for someone to rescue him but no one came. He stored food in the hut for his survival. But one day, the hut burned to ashes and nothing was left. He was so angry, he said: "God, why have you done this to me?” The next morning rescuers came. He asked:" How did you know that I am here?” They replied:" we saw a smoke signal." Trust Him even when bad things happen. His plans are always greater than ours... This inspires me today. I received this message from a friend on my mobile. Been asking the same to God: "why have you done this to me?", WE might not understand the reasons why things happen, why we meet people, why we’re hurt, why we have to say goodbye, why we have to cry, why we have to go over and over the many hurtful challenges of life... we might not really understand...but we keep on hoping. We just don't realize that everything happened that makes us the weakest- will be the sign of God’s prosperity. - But amidst the weakest point of our lives, we will come up a stronger person! We just have to keep the faith and pray hard. It will make us the person God would want us to be. Remember that all those challenges and pains will make us the true great person we ought to be as God’s promise of His love to us....

Heart

...What is coronary heart disease? Coronary heart disease is the name for the disease in which your hearts blood supply is blocked or partially blocked by a build-up of fatty acids, such as cholesterol and other waste substances, in the coronary arteries. This makes the arteries narrower and restricts blood flow. Arteries are ‘tubes’ that carry blood away from the heart. The coronary arteries are the first vessels that branch off from the aorta. The aorta is the largest artery in the body. It transports and distributes oxygen rich blood to all arteries. The coronary arteries extend from the aorta to the heart walls supplying blood to the heart itself because like all other muscles the heart needs nutrients and oxygen too. Despite all the blood that flows through the heart, the heart can’t use any of the nutrients and other necessities from it, which is why it needs its own arteries. The chance of getting coronary heart disease is increased if you: * have high blood pressure * have a high blood cholesterol level * do not take regular exercise * have diabetes * have a family history of CHD * are obese/overweight * smoke Coronary heart disease can cause: * Chest pains – CHD can also cause Angina, a condition that causes severe pain in the chest. * Restricted blood flow in arteries – This can cause a fatal rhythm disturbance. * Faster and irregular heart beat * Nausea * Heart attacks What is a heart attack? A heart attack occurs......

Why Amy Owns My Heart

...aka owner of my heart, I find it difficult to come up with the words to describe how much I miss you and how lonely the world has become without you in it. I can’t explain the amount of pain I have been in not having you. I have missed you tremendously, physically and metaphorically and truly can’t imagine feeling like this every day. I want you, I need you. The only thing I haven’t figured out is how to get back to where we were. I have talked with you many times about how much I regret not having kids. I never realized what I was missing until I found out first hand. I feel that they make the total package that is you better not worse. During that conversation we had on your back porch I was truly seeking guidance and insight on how you handled the kids with so much poise. I deeply regret if it appeared otherwise. I have told you many times that between the two of us that you are by far the luckiest for having them in your life. Remember I was as concerned as you were about entering into their lives before I was positive that we had a future. I very much thought that taking the time to make sure we were right first was the absolute correct thing to do. Now I feel 100% that it was the absolutely right thing to do. Your girls are very quickly finding a place in my heart, and from what we discussed last night they feel the same way. I feel that we work so well because we are truly complimentary in our strengths. One of the factors that weighs in on that is my lack of......

The Day My Heart, Life and Soul Went from Complete Happiness to Crumbled Pieces

..."The day my heart, life and soul went from complete happiness to crumbled pieces" I was just a young, little girl. I was completely devoted to soccer, cheer leading as well as my grades in school. My family meant the world to me. I often say I had a "fairy tale" childhood with everything a child could ever dream of or wish for. I had a horse named Nutmeg, which together, she and I won many blue ribbons. I had a nice car when I got my license. We were members of the New Bern Golf & Country Club. Anything I wanted, I pretty much, always received. My family attended church together every Sunday. My siblings and I sang in the Children's Choir. My mom always had my two sisters and I dressed to a T, with ruffle socks or pantyhose. Our little brother always had an outfit on to match the three of us girls. We played T-Ball for our church. We participated in the Crop Walk every year. Mom always had her little angels in sponge curl rollers after dinner, prayers, book time and bath every Saturday night. We woke up on Sunday morning and had beautiful bouncy curls. Every Sunday morning, my whole family normally ate breakfast at Bojangles. We were the "precious little Outlaw's". We knew no harm, no violence, no profanity, and no exposure to alcohol, drugs or parents arguing. We were just simply four happy children with the best life a child thought they could or would ever have or ask for. After school one day, mom picked us up from school, took us to get a snack, as we did daily...

Can I Live Without My Heart?

...The heart is an organ that, together with the veins and arteries makes up the cardiovascular system. Being a muscular organ that pumps blood through a network of veins and arteries, the various bodily tissues are supplied with oxygenated blood (WebMD, 2009). Being located behind the sternum and between the lungs, the heart must be protected at all times as it is an important organ (Bianco, 2013). While you sleep, while you are awake sitting down or exercising, the heart never stops beating. Specifically designed chambers and valves contribute to the effectiveness of the cardiovascular system and the action of heat beats and contractions that pump blood around the body. Close to the heart is the Sinoatrial node, which generates electrical impulses that triggers the heart to contract, forcing blood out, and upon relaxing, allowing blood to pour in (Laizzo, 2010). As the human body needs a supply of oxygen, and the only way to get it is via enriched blood, the human body is not able to live without the heart you are born with. That being said, there have been medical advancements achieved which enables the survival of a patient who has suffered a severe cardiac event. Many of these techniques are only temporary until a more stable decision can be made (Heart Foundation, 2013). Cardiopulmonary Bypass is used for taking over the lungs and heart of a patient having cardiothoracic surgery. Cardiopulmonary Bypass works to oxygenate the blood and pump it around the body...

Where's My Heart

...I lost it not so long ago I wait for its return The heart from which in its depths My passion used to burn And it rumbled deep insode Before I even knew I let it fly away from me And hide inside of you I swear to God I'll find it And love again I will To live a life without a heart I think I'd rather die And when I see you laughing I wonder if you know That though its been so very long I haven't let you go And I still I lay here crying With no heart to call my own Cause I lost it with my sanity The minute you were gone All I ask is simple To set my spirit free To find my old and broken heart And give it back to me Why does it hurt so bad Why do I feel so sad Thought I was over you But I keep on crying When I don't have you So, why does it hurt me so I gotta get you off my head It hurts me so bad My life has been great since you left I must admit life is great I went and did all the things I said I would I found someone who loves me for me I haven't had much drama since the day we split My heart has never been more at ease And when I think of all the things you put me through Leaving you has been for the best Never again I said I never want to feel your pain again Just when I think its through I fall right back in love with you...

When You Love You Should Not Say "God Is in My Heart, " but Rather, "I Am in the Heart of God."

...When you love you should not say, "God is in my heart," but rather, "I am in the heart of God." When you love you should believe that you are in his/her heart. For me these quotations teach us to have trust in our love once just like when giving trust in God. Trust is the very thing that everybody in this world desires, or at least should desire from one another. Who wants to have a friendship or relationship without trust? Nobody does. Without trust, there is no friendship, and without friendship, there is no love. I believe that trust is an even greater compliment than to be loved! I believe George Macdonald said it best when he stated "To be trusted is a greater compliment than to be loved." When I read this quote for the first time, I thought to myself, "Wow that is so true. How can you be loved if you are not trusted first?" It is a special thing to be trusted by someone. Having trust is very important. It’s a big part in a relationship. Being truthful is the key to establishing trust in any type of relationship. In a romantic type of relationship, jealousy can be a major cause for a lack of trust. Both parties must have trust. In any case of relationship, trust is built, earned, and maintained. For example: If you had an ex who cheated on you, you might start experiencing trust issues in relationships with others especially when you get close to one another. It may be difficult and you may end up not being able to trust the other person. When someone loses your......

Heart

...There are many parts to a human heart. Each structure of the heart has a different function and a different location. The hearts size is the about the size of a human fist. It takes in deoxygenated blood through the veins and brings it to the lungs to get oxygenated and then pumps it into the various arteries. The heart is in a fluid filled cavity called the pericardial cavity. The walls and the lining of the heart are membranes which are called pericardium. Its function is to lubricate the heart and to prevent friction between the heart and the other organs of the human body. It has two layers, a visceral layer that covers the outside of the heart and a parietal layer that creates a sac on the outside of the pericardial cavity. The heart wall has three layers. The first outer layer is called the Epicardium. It is the thin layer that helps lubricate and protect the outside of the heart. The muscular middle layer of the heart is called the Myocardium. Its function is to pump the blood. The third layer that lines the inside of the heart is called the Endocardium. Its responsibility is to keep blood from sticking to the inside of the heart which could form blood clots. The heart has four chambers. Those chambers include the right atrium, the left atrium, the right ventricle, and the left ventricle. The atria are smaller, and the walls are less muscular and thinner. They are connected to the veins because they are the receiving chambers...

...Topic: How to make a paper heart Specific Purpose: To teach the audience the history and how to make paper hearts Thesis Statement: The audience will learn how to make a paper heart in less than 10 mins Introduction Attention Getter: So this might take you back to the good times and maybe show my age Transition: As a kid in middle school my friends and I would write notes back and forth to each other. And there came a point in time where either we got to sloppy with it or the teachers got really smart because they started seeing us and taking the notes and reading them to the whole class, and at this time most of our letters were who liked who . So of course nobody wanted that information to get out. So we came up with making paper hearts, and we would put them in the front of our folder so it looked like art and if the teachers seen us passing it around they would think we were just giving it to our friends to put inside their folder. Credibility: When I first started middle school I didn’t know that writing notes in class was such a big thing. I thought texting each other was a lot better but I see I was wrong not many phone companies had the unlimited plan till after 7pm. So unless you wanted to get in trouble by your parents later you were writing notes to each other in class. Thesis Statement: I’m going to tell you some of the history and then show you how to make a paper heart Preview: Tonight I will tell you what paper hearts can be used for and......

The Letterto the Guy Who Broke My Heart

...ear Man,Words are beautiful. To produce them, I allow my fingers to move about in a rhythmic and rather therapeutic manner. These movements then deliver my thoughts and emotions intothe minds of human beings who cannot be reached by the sound of my voice. I think it's time for me to start understanding that you are now just one of those people that is out of my reach. So here are a few words to the man I no longer know and cannot seem to find.Let me explain to you what it feels like to be told you are perfect in every way and will always be taken care of. Let me convey the emotions that rip through a young woman like myself when she is convinced she is someone's forever. Let me express thehope and loyalty that is instilled inside of a girl who built up wall after wall only to feel as though they were peacefully torn down by a man who pulled her deeply into his love. I cannot formulate those emotions into words the same way I cannot describethe way it felt to have you rip that all topieces.I want you to know that I loved you. I loved you through every emotional part of the roller coaster you have brought into my life. I loved you on the days that you were pleasant and kind and also the days you were unrecognizable to me. I loved you through changing circumstance and the rapid movement of time. I even loved you when you decided that you didn't love me anymore. I think a part of me still loves you while I sit here in the darkness, face hot with tears and disillusionment. But......

Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee Book Review

...Karen Raybould March 21, 2013 SOCI 1310 Book Review The book Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee, an Indian History of the American West written by Dee Brown is a unique look at the “civilization” of the West through the eyes of the Native American populace rather than through the point of view of American settlers. It is intended to open the eyes of the reader, presumably a white American, to what truly happened during the conquering of the American West and dispel the romanticized version of western settlement popular in mainstream media and history. In the author’s own words “Americans who have always looked westward when reading about this period should read this book facing eastward.” (Brown, XXIV). Through his retelling of history, Brown discusses the effects of stereotypes, the influence of European habits of colonization, and the evolution of American policies regarding the native people. This book was written as a revisionist history of the American West from the point of view of the loser instead of the typical history which is written from the winner’s perspective. In that regard it was highly successful as even Native American authors wished they had written the book. “’Every Indian will wish he had written it,’ said Vine Deloria, author of Custer Died for Your Sins. ‘I wish I had.’” (Brown XVIII). In this work the author presents the history of the Native Americans from their own words and records. He has painstakingly combed through military......

My Hometown Is Still in My Heart

...inimitable place to be, besides in my husband’s arms, is Harrogate, Tennessee. The rolling hills, clean crisp air, and spaciousness all surpass the city life. The memories and joy I experience when I am there will always have a special place in my heart. My house resided in the country. A cow field was my backyard, and I would play hide and seek with my friends behind the hay bales. From the moment we got home and put our Bratz Doll backpacks down until the moment the pinkish, yellow sun was setting, my friends and I were always in a new adventure. At times, the golden rays would shine and radiate without a cloud in the sky. The gentle breeze was just enough to make it comfortable. The grass had already dried from the early morning dew, making it look freshly cut and greener than ever. As we would run around making up games to play, my black and white English Springer Spaniel, otherwise known as Bubba, would follow us eagerly with his wet teeming tongue hanging out of his parched mouth and his tail wagging like a hammer in an ongoing alarm clock. In Knoxville, the population and space is far too crowded to enjoy pleasures like those in Harrogate. In a way, it is suffocating here, and I miss the feeling of peace and contentment when at home. During winter season, it would snow fervently. My yard also consisted of a rather giant slope. Due to many hills and back roads that would get black ice very easily, school was called off frequently. My friends and I......
