New Pulsar Star Discovery
Throughout the universe many natural wonders occur on a moment to moment basis. These natural wonders have occurred for more than 14 billion years and will continue to occur as long as the universe exists. Some of these natural wonders are the super nova or the passing of the moon in front of the Sun to create an eclipse. One such wonder that has brought on quite the curiosity of late is the Pulsar.
Discovery of the Pulsar
Discovered in 1967 by Jocelyn Burnell, Pulsars are neutron stars that appear to pulse because of the rotation of the star ("Neutron Stars and Pulsars – Introduction," 2006). Jocelyn Burnell is an astronomer and an astrophysicist born on July 15, 1943 in Belfast Ireland (CSU, n.d.). Jocelyn Burnell earned her physics degree at the Glasgow University, Scotland in 1965 and was the first person to discover the pulsar, which are stars that release regular bursts of radio waves (CSU, n.d.). Jocelyn Burrell’s discovery was a milestone in the history of astrophysics (CSU, n.d.). In addition, she was involved in the construction and operation of the telescope and was responsible for monitoring and interpreting the recordings of radio transmissions once the telescope had become operational in July 1967 (CSU, n.d.).
Summary of the Article
An international team of astronomers have discovered new information about a star that man has been cognizant of for over a decade. This star, called PSR B0943+10, operates in a different fashion than any other pulsar found to date, and is being called a "Chameleon Star" due to how it changes its appearance. According to Chameleon Star Baffles Astronomers (2013), "The scientists identified a pulsar that is able to dramatically change the way in which it shines. In just a few seconds, the star can quiet its radio waves while at the same time it makes its X-ray emissions much…...

...In The News - Amazon Signs $600M Cloud Infrastructure Deal With CIA At first glance, when I saw this article, I was more curious than anything, and had no thought of how this piece of news could be blended into the BUSN-412 discussion thread. However, after reading through the article, it became apparent to me that Amazon’s deal with the CIA was still a business transaction, albeit with the Federal Government. My thoughts began to race as I pondered how this would be different from any other business decision reached by such an enormous company like Amazon. After all, they are a multi-billion-dollar company, who are in business to make money. In an article published by CRN, a very reliable technology news organization, unconfirmed reports state that Amazon has reached a 10-year, $600 million cloud computing deal with Amazon. Amazon, if confirmed, and already a major player in the building of Cloud Infrastructure, will have scored a very large victory in the tech world. With such a sizeable deal in the works, one could speculate about some of what went on behind closed doors. As it may relate to our week two discussion thread on SWOT, I would speculate that the CIA did its own SWOT analysis of Amazon. I am sure that the CIA would not have even considered Amazon for this venture, before scrutinizing Amazon from top to bottom. For the business managers that were involved in this process, it should have been the standard way to conduct business, save for the fact it was......

Bajaj Pulsar Market Analysis

....................... 15 Future Strategies for Bajaj Pulsar ......................................................................................................... 17 Page 2 Executive Summary The Bajaj Pulsar launched in India in 2001 creating a revolution and a market for itself in motorcycle market. Pulsar targeted males from age 18-20 with a tagline ‘Definitely Male’ which was a huge successful campaign. The first big launch of Bajaj after disassociating from Kawasaki, currently Pulsar has 5 variants in the market with varying engine capacity. Analysis into how Bajaj has captured the market shows us that a good mix of high operational standards like having a wide distributing network and a very successful branding campaign has made Pulsar a market leader. With a wide range of engine capacity and high fuel efficiency Pulsar has its strength is embedded in Indian society. Also it has huge growth opportunities in south and east Asian countries and also in the 250cc plus sections of sports biking. It has its drawback when it comes to differentiating in styles. The 135cc and 220cc with similar styling decreases the brand value for the 220cc bike. Its battle within itself due to strikes seem its biggest threat for now. The Pest analysis of Bajaj Pulsar produces some important results. It tells us how the demographics of India has given an impetus to Pulsar as it targets the youth. Further the biggest strength of Pulsar lies in its technology. The rising fuel prices......

Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew, visiting Berlin, urged the German government to do more to boost lackluster domestic demand, which the U.S. and others argue is partly to blame for the anemic economic growth in the euro zone as a whole. Do Tax Cheats Solve the U.K.’s Productivity Puzzle? URL:http://blogs.wsj.com/economics/2013/10/22/do-tax-cheats-solve-the-u-k-s-productivity-puzzle/?KEYWORDS=productivity abstract: Economists in Britain have long been scratching their heads over the nation’s troubling “productivity puzzle.” Now Markit, the financial information provider that publishes the purchasing managers’ indexes used to gauge activity in the global economy, has tentatively suggested that former tax cheats might be muddying the waters. Britain has a bigger workforce than it did before it tipped into recession in 2008 yet is producing far fewer goods and services. This mismatch between output and jobs has led to a collapse in productivity, a measure of how effectively an economy uses its resources that’s an important driver of future growth prospects. ...Business Policy 3/15/14 The article that I chose to talk about is about Apple and Samsung; they have both been competing to be number one in the market for phones, TVs, and now watches and new advances in technology. Apple has a huge a range of customers who are very loyal to them and that are what had made them so successful in expanding their business. Samsung is also very successful because of the advances that they have been making with Android and the new Tizen strategy. Tizen is a new form of technology that allows manufactures to turn phones in watches and other everyday items. Tizen and Android are very similar and most people cannot tell them apart if the systems are switched. Apple has a huge disadvantage with Samsung because they do not move as fast as Samsung. Samsung’s disadvantage is that China can easily make knockoffs of the brand and sell them for as low as $35 compared to $700. * Samsung’s marketing strategy is to cover everything that they can internationally, spending 4 billion dollars. * Apple’s business strategy is to keep its loyal customers happy with the products that they currently own. * Samsung’s business strategy is to keep the customers that they have while trying to gain new customers. * Samsung and Apple’s main challenges are environmental because people care about what their phones can do. Which means applications like Facebook, Instagram, and Candy crush? * Another area that they are competing in is the tablet market,......

...News and Current Affairs Programme 1 ITN National and World News This programme is a national type and is broadcast right across the British Isles on a daily basis. It is not a specialist programme in the sense that it does not focus on one particular genre of news.eg sport, instead it covers every area and delivers it in a formal manner. The particular programme that I have taken notes on appeared on our screens and was broadcast on 10/10/10 at 6:00pm. It was presented by Alastair Stewart and Mary Nightingale and the headlines of each individual story were read out in the studio. This was then followed by images and graphics appearing on screen as the voice-overs of the news presenters could clearly be heard explaining the story. The first story that was covered was about how the Vitamin B could potentially benefit people that suffer from Alzheimer’s disease. The first part of this story used graphics on the screen as well as the use of voice-overs to narrate what the diagrams and statistics on screen meant. The story then progressed into interviews with experts on the matter, all of a medical background and with extensive knowledge in Alzheimer’s disease and also the Vitamin B. These interviews were taken in medical rooms with clear equipment and charts visible on camera the whole time to reiterate the issue. Finally the story was concluded with footage of old age pensioners who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease and a summary voice over being made on......

...The company “Nutiva” did a re-branding campaign the beginning of 2014 for its product line with new labels. Nutiva is the world’s leading brand of all-organic hemp foods, coconut oil, red palm oil and chia seeds. Their logo is: “Nourishing People and Planets. Revolutionizing the way the world eats”. They are a values-driven brand, dedicated to providing nourishing food and supplements. The beginning of this year, they launched a clean simple new look to the labels of their products which hadn’t had a packaging change in 15 years. Their inspiration for the change was to look as fresh, healthy and vital on the outside of the package as what they have inside. The labels are simple, clean, modern looking white background with watercolor inspired designs of the plant product that is inside. The website article found at Nutiva.com was my choice for this assignment. This re-branding idea is very important in successful advertising to help rejuvenate a product. Nutiva’s original labels were very every day common blending in with its competition. The fresh look will attract new consumers that may be buying other similar products. Media campaigns with the new look that were launched by Nutiva are part of the marketing mix to help this product sell. The internet marketing and advertising Nutiva has done with the “new” look are the campaign mix that the DeVry course in “Advertising and Public Relations” is teaching. Nutiva wants to keep its brand image consistent and also have it......

Bajaj Pulsar

...High-end Products Brand Name: Bajaj Pulsar Parent Company: Bajaj Auto Category: Motorcycles Sector: Two-wheeler Tagline/ Slogan : Definitely Male, The Fastest Indian USP: Powerful engine and good pickup Product Description- Bajaj Pulsar The Bajaj Pulsar is a motorcycle brand owned by Bajaj Auto in India. The two wheeler was developed by the product engineering division of Bajaj Auto in association with Tokyo R&D,[1] and later with motorcycle designer Glynn Kerr. Currently there are five variants available, with engine capacities of 135 cc, 150 cc, 180 cc, 200 cc, and 220 cc. previously it was also offered with a 200 cc DTS-i oil cooled engine, which now has been discontinued. Instead a new version Pulsar 200NS was launched in 2012.[2] With an average monthly sales of around 86,000 units in 2011, Pulsar claimed a 2011 market share of 47% in its segment.[3] By April 2012, more than five million units of Pulsar were sold.[4] Before the introduction of the Pulsar, the Indian motorcycle market trend was towards fuel efficient, small capacity motorcycles (that formed the 80–125 cc class). Bigger motorcycles with higher capacity virtually did not exist (except for Enfield Bullet). The launch and success of Hero Honda CBZ in 1999 showed that there was demand for performance bikes. Bajaj took the cue from there on and launched the Pulsar twins in India on 24 November 2001.[5] Since the introduction and success of Bajaj Pulsar, Indian youth began expecting high power......

...In the News Apple has revealed a new promotional material that lets its users have the ability to switch between major mobile carriers for their data plans. Apple will now ship out in their new iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3 a built-in sim card that allows users to purchase wireless service on the spot. Previous ipads have always had the ability to let you hop between carriers just by swapping out the sim card; however, Apple has simplified this process further with one sim card that lets you hop onto whichever carriers is listed on their iOS. These carriers include AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile in the U.S., and EE in the U.K. Apple does plan to expand the list of global carriers in the future. Why does this matter? Well I think this really takes the carriers out of the retail loop and makes it easier for Apple users to be able to switch seamlessly between the three major U.S. carriers for on the go data plans. It makes the carriers a lot closer to the interchangeable pipes that they’re afraid of seeing because it effectively lessens the powers of the mobile carriers since they rely on their control of the retail sales and service channels to prevent customers from switchovers and to be able to upsell additional products. Interestingly enough, Verizon has opted out of this new Apple sim so far, which shows the disproportionate strength of Verizon in our market as compared to the other three carriers. Verizon thinks that they have enough market power to tell Apple what to......

...News The News is a wonderful and scary thing at the same time. I personally steer clear of the news as it tends to blow matters way out of proportions and with being in the military I rather be briefed on things of national security by my superiors vice the local news that only gets pebbles from the locals. I think that the news can be good at times, but in my experiences it tends to stress society out way more than it needs to be. An example of this is I have been to Bahrain numerous times, and all my mother would see on the television is riots and unruly behavior there. I on the other hand did not watch the news, got the security brief from my superiors and carried on my mission. While I was there it was nothing as what my mother and the news had depicted. Every time I have been there it has been peaceful and the locals have always been so very nice. Audience The intended audience was originally for locals, as it was broadcasted on the local news channels. The written news article I chose was from New York Times. Since the incident occurred in Phoenix, AZ, I purposefully chose the New York Times as it is located across the country. This choice makes for a better comparison of data from across state lines. Credible MSNBC and the New York Times are both credible sources that individuals rely on everyday to hear anything from the weather to local in international news. Both of these reports were similar in nature. The New York Times tends to go more in depth, so their...

...In The News Chipotle Mexican Grill was first founded on July 13th 1993 in Denver, Colorado by Steve Ells. With his experiences in culinary school, his vision was to establish a restaurant that was simple and creative. Chipotle Mexican Grill became one of the fastest growing industries in the world. There are now a total of 1700 locations worldwide located in the United States, France, United Kingdom, Germany and Canada. Recently, there has been an E. coli outbreak with Chipotle restaurants which led to the closing of 43 stores. All cases of E. coli have been confirmed in the Washington and Oregon area. Many victims have filed lawsuits against Chipotle because they have become ill due to the bacteria. Anyone that have eaten at Chipotle between Oct. 14-23 have experienced vomiting, stomach cramps and bloody diarrhea. Health officials are urging anyone experiencing those symptoms to report to the hospital immediately because E. coli has a possibly of leading to death. The public is questioning Chipotle about how the E. coli outbreak even began. Many assumed that the products used in the chain restaurant have been unsanitary. The most common way to spread E. coli is through feces. Chipotle released a statement that they believe the source of the E. coli is from their vegetables and that they are doing their best to investigate the situation. This isn’t the first time that Chipotle faced food safety issues within their chain. In August, a Chipotle restaurant in California was......

...A news article discusses current or recent news of either general interest (i.e. daily newspapers) or of a specific topic (i.e. political or trade news magazines, club newsletters, or technology news websites). A news article can include accounts of eyewitnesses to the happening event. It can contain photographs, accounts, statistics, graphs, recollections, interviews, polls, debates on the topic, etc. Headlines can be used to focus the reader’s attention on a particular (or main) part of the article. The writer can also give facts and detailed information following answers to general questions like who, what, when, where, why and how. Quoted references can also be helpful. References to people can also be made through the written accounts of interviews and debates confirming the factuality of the writer’s information and the reliability of his source. The writer can use redirection to ensure that the reader keeps reading the article and to draw her attention to other articles. For example, phrases like "Continued on page 3” redirect the reader to a page where the article is continued. While a good conclusion is an important ingredient for newspaper articles, the immediacy of a deadline environment means that copy editing often takes the form of deleting everything past an arbitrary point in the story corresponding to the dictates of available space on a page. Therefore, newspaper reporters are trained to write in inverted pyramid style, with all the most important......

Bajaj Pulsar

...Bajaj Pulsar : Definitely Male Brand : Pulsar Company: Bajaj Auto Agency ;O&M, Leo Burnett Brand Count : 226 Pulsar is one of my favorite brands both as a bike rider and as a marketer. This bike has virtually redefined biking in this country. Pulsar launched in 2001 is the market leader in the 150 cc + performance bike segment. More than that , this brand changed the fortune of Bajaj Auto Ltd. Before the launch of Pulsar, Indian bike market was divided broadly into Economy,Executive and Premium Bikes. In 1999 Hero Honda created a new segment of 150 cc performance segment with its CBZ. But Pulsar came and gave a new life into the Performance segment. Although not a pioneer, Pulsar made the performance segment one of the fastest growing segment in the two wheeler market. It was not only the bike's performance that triggered the brand becoming an icon, a major part of the success was due to the classic advertising campaign by O&M. According to agencyfaqs, the birth of the "Definitely Male " campaign is interesting. The creative honchos found the new product from Bajaj distinctly different. It was Bajaj's first bike without Kawasaki label. The new bike was an R&D and design marvel.Pulsar was designed by the renowned design house Tokyo R&D. O&M knew that the communication of this brand should also be different.Starting with lot of ideas, O&M stuck upon the Big Idea of India's He-Bike. Although lot of bike take the persona of Macho bikes it was...
