Behavioral Forces Discussion Summary Organizational behavior has become a widely controversial subject throughout the years. Many organizations often have a hard time identifying an organizational culture that the majority of the employees can identify with. Today’s business world is so diverse and includes many people from different walks of life. Organizations must exemplify exceptional behaviors amongst employees and managers, not only as a positive representation of the organization, but also of each employee’s own individuality. Many internal and external factors affect organizational behaviors. Four different organizations are discussed in this paper and a summary of how the organizations compare and contrast will also be discussed.
Summary of Access (Community Enrichment Services) Access is a state funded organization who receives a certain amount of money that allows them to assist their clientele. The mission statement of Access is “to work hand in hand with those around us to assure a choice of effective, efficient programs and caregivers, and to offer excellent services that enhance quality of life.” Customer demands include counseling by licensed counselors, 24-hour crisis hotline, if indigent medication is provided free of charge, visits to psychiatrist on the grounds to assess the clients and periodic blood work to see how the medication is affecting the client’s body. A screening process is in place to determine the urgency of assistance the client needs. If serious enough to place in a managed care facility, an emergency room visit is required to screen the patient before request for an admission. A doctor to doctor will be completed between the emergency room doctor and admitting psychiatrist of facility for admission. Yes, some people tend to look for trouble. This falls under organizational behavior and the human decision. Here is a prime example of how people indeed do get messed up on their jobs. Through a survey and a series of experiments these three authors set out to prove that if not careful we can indeed sabotage ourselves. In the study they try to demonstrate how co-workers seem to pick out people with paranoia and these types of behaviors. Therefore setting themselves up for gossip, because of their eavesdropping and suspicious behavior against their peers this causes the light to come on them. Analysis: If you go looking for trouble you will definitely find it. Sometimes our actions speak louder than words. I thought that the authors did a wonderful job showing how it is possible to sabotage yourself in the work place. After all, our behavior toward our jobs and our peers, affects our attitudes and our overall performance on the job. Behavior is basically goal oriented. Generally we behave as we do because we are motivated to attain a particular goal, although the goal we are pursuing may not be known by our conscious mind. (Week 1 lecture B par.1). ...Discussion of Porters five forces The model of the Five Competitive Forces was developed by Michael E. Porter in his book „Competitive Strategy: Techniques for Analyzing Industries and Competitors“ in 1980. Since that time it has become an important tool for analyzing an organizations industry structure in strategic processes.   Porters model is based on the insight that a corporate strategy should meet the opportunities and threats in the organizations external environment. ...Discussion (Part 4): In this study, our researchers carefully analyzed the results of the data from the organization “Mimi’s Café” that we had collected from our questionnaire survey. Thirteen (13) employees of the Mimi’s Café organization participated in our survey. Of these thirteen (13) people of the organization, there were four (4) managers and nine (9) employees. A 34-questionaire survey was provided for them to take. A scale for the questionnaire was conducted in the following way from 1 to 5. 1 being strongly disagrees, 2 being disagree, 3 unsure, 4 agree, and 5 strongly agree. In order for us to interpret and discuss what the results of our data suggested. The researchers went through each question and tallied up the ratings of the thirteen 13 employees and managers. With the data provided by the volunteers, our researchers had to answer what did it all suggest through what we were trying to get at through our 6 research questions. We the researchers investigated the aspects of does the staff work together as a team, what factors influence their teamwork, as well as how could their teamwork be improved. In addition, they wanted to also investigate what were the levels of job satisfaction and motivation of the current Mimi’s volunteers, what factors increase or hinder those levels, and how can those levels of job satisfaction and motivation be improved. As with any individual my life experiences and personal influences have influenced my ethical and moral decisions along the way.
