Conceptual Framework
To have an effect that will give positive change in our lives, we need to reorganize our lifestyle according to the way we spend our time. It should be based on the concept of importance - not urgency. The problem for most people, is that they usually prioritize urgent matters more than the important ones. But what they need to realize first, is that there are three basic steps which we must consider to get what we want out of life: first, understand that you can achieve success, second, define what success represents for you and third, organize your life around your achievement.
Covey (2004) illustrated a highly effective system of time management that can benefit anybody. This system is primarily based on the theory that most of us are driven by a consuming sense of urgency. But through this system, Covey is instructing us to divide all our priorities into the following four quadrants: Figure 1. Stephen Covey's Time Management
Quadrant 1: Important and Urgent – Items in this category are integral to your life and require your immediate attention.
Quadrant 2: Important but Not Urgent – Items in this category are integral to your life but do not require your immediate attention right now.
Quadrant 3: Not Important but Urgent – Items in this category are not integral to your life, but they do require your immediate attention. Quadrant 4: Not Important and Not Urgent – Items in this category are not integral to your life and do not need to happen at any particular time (or not at all, for that matter), yet doing them consumes your time and energy. Independent Variable * Subject * Teacher * Time * Mind set (Pessimism vs. Optimism)

...FACTORS AFFECTING STUDY HABITS OF GENERAL ENGINEERING STUDENTS A Research Paper Presented by the General Engineering Students, General Engineering Department, Batangas State University Batangas City Researchers : Acorda, Mariella H. Austria, Limuel Gabuco, Shaira C. Lumalang, Johnlinne U. Macalalad, Princes Rose R. GE- 2118 September 2013 Chapter I Introduction A. Background of the Study Did you ever stop to wonder what sets apart the really successful students from the average ones? Why do some students who appear to study all the time just get by, while others who don’t appear to put in as much time and effort do well? Is it all related to IQ or are some other factors involved? The truth is that success in school is not so much determined by sheer intelligence as knowing how to study. Studying is a skill. Being successful in school requires a high level of study skills. Students must first learn these skills, practice them and develop effective study habits in order to be successful. Very often the study habits and practices developed and used in high school do not work for students in college. Good study habits include many different skills: time management, self-discipline, concentration, memorization, organization, and effort. Desire to succeed is important, too. Study habits are the ways that you study the habits that you have formed during your school years. Study habits can be good ones or bad ones. Good study habits include......

...NEGATIVE FACTORS AFFECTING THE STUDY HABITS OF STUDENTS ACADEMIC YEAR 2013-2014 In Partial Fulfillment Of The Subject Requirements In English 2 A Colloquium Presented to The English Faculty of the Our Lady of Fatima University GRANTUSA, WINORE D. CONCEPCION, SOFIA LORRAINE P. CHAPTER 1 THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND Your study habits play a big role in determining your success in the learning process. Study habits are the ways that you acquire knowledge that you have formed during your school years. Study habits can be good ones or bad ones. Good study habits include being organized, keeping good notes, reading your textbooks, listening in class and working every day. Negative study habits include skipping class, not doing your work, watching television or playing video games. Therefore, negative study habits of students are not helpful for a better education. Study habits are defined as the regular tendencies and practices that one depicts during the process of gaining information through learning. The manner with which you consistently use to study for school or college even for next day lesson plans if you are a teacher. It means you are not distracted by anything, you have a certain place to go where it is quiet everyday where you study and do homework. (Sanchez, 2010) Studying is a skill. Being successful in school requires a high level of study skills. Student must first learn these skills, practice them and develop effective study habits in......

First Avenue, Highland Park, NJ 08904, 732846-6850 Eileen Stec, Instruction & Outreach Librarian, Douglass Library, Rutgers, New Brunswick, NJ 08901, 848-932-5009 Hannah Kwon, PhD Student, Rutgers SC&I, New Brunswick, NJ 08901 Abstract Despite the considerable attention paid to the need to increase the information literacy of high school students in preparation for the transition to college, poor research skills still seem to be the norm. To gain insight into the problem, library instruction environments of nineteen high schools were explored. The schools were selected based on whether their graduates did well or poorly on information-skills assignments integrated in a required first-year college course. The librarians in the nineteen schools were asked to characterize their working relationships with teachers, estimate their students’ information-literacy achievement, and provide data on their staffing and budgets. Findings suggest that school librarians are seldom in a position to adequately collaborate with teachers and that their opportunities to help students achieve information literacy are limited. Introduction The study reported in this paper was inspired by observations made by students in the Master’s in Library and Information......

Factors That Affecting Student Study Habit

...Factors Affecting Study Habits of Students In: People Factors Affecting Study Habits of Students Chapter I Introduction Research Background Teachers are educators that teach us what we must learn. They are one of the most inspiring people not only in school but also within our nation. They help us to achieve our goals and dreams in life, and the ones who shape every person’s character. We consider them as our second parents who guide and lead us to the right path. And it truly proves that all educators are such a magnificent person. According to Benito (2000), the best hope for education lies with the teacher; his education is of primary importance. She explained that the quality of education the teacher has to transmit to his students largely depends on the quality of his education. The teacher’s best teaching device is herself (Adams, 1994). It follows then that in order to be an effective communication of knowledge; the teacher should have sufficient background of the subject matter that he/she teaches. In Teaching, Every educator must master his/her lesson plan. And everything that a teacher will teach to his student must be based on her own learning and experiences. Every teacher has their own way of providing knowledge to their students. They have their techniques in teaching for the student to better understand everything about their lesson. There are so many factors that affect students’ performance, and it includes the way of how the teachers communicate to...

...profession by secondary school students in Ilala district, explore factors that promote aspiration to enroll in nursing schools and to explore factors that deter aspiration to enroll in nursing schools. Methods: The study was exploratory cross sectional using both qualitative and quantitative methods and was conducted in Azania and Jangwani secondary schools in Ilala district. The sample size included 50 male and 50 female students who were opting for Physics, Chemistry and Biology from form III to form VI in the above mentioned schools. Results: Awareness above 50% for males was 79.2% (95%CI: 66.6, 91.8) while that of females was 76.9 % (95% CI: 65.4, 88.4). Awareness below 50% was 31.4% (95%CI: 8.4, 54.4) for the males while that for females was 31.1% (95% CI: 11.3, 50.9). Non awareness was mostly about nurses being capable of independent practice, making decisions for themselves, working with high technology, following physician’s orders without questioning and feeling good about what they do. Factors that were pointed out included: social, economical, educational and individual perceptions of different students. Although students were aware of nursing, they did not want to opt to join the profession. Conclusion: This study has shown that students are at least aware of the profession but they do not want to opt for it due to the image they have of it from the public. The factors that have been addressed in this research have to be put in consideration if at all we are to......

Factors Affecting Study Habits

...Chapter 2 REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE & STUDIES Foreign According to Palm Beach Community College (PBBC, 2008),they recommend that student’s study should have at least three hours out of class for every hour spent in class. They also said that a student must have a special place to study with plenty of room to work. And students should not be cramped. They presupposes that study time will go better if a learner take a few minutes at the start to straighten things up. A desk and straight-backed chair is usually best. “ Don't get too comfortable--a bed is a place to sleep, not to study” as what they said. A student must have everything close at hand(book, pencils, paper, coffee, dictionary, computer, calculator, tape recorder, etc.) before starting to study. Students are not suggested to spend on time jumping up and down to get things. The PBCC suggests also that distracting noise should be minimized however they said that there are some people need sound and some like silence. In this case, a learner must finds what works for him or her. Culprits are family and friends. consider a "do not disturb" sign and turning on your answering machine is the way also to have better study habits according to the PBBC.. Frank Pogue(2000) did a research project to determine why students fail. What he founds to be true in that study habits survey was that more than 30 years ago still rings true today--students fail because they do not know how to study .The best advice he can give is to...

Factors Affecting Study Habits

...Chapter I THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND Introduction Parents are the first teachers of their respective children. Prior to birth, the fetus interacts with the mother through its gestures. The child learns his first lesson in alphabet, numbers, colors and shapes at home. When the child starts his formal schooling, parents transfer their responsibilities to teachers- the second parents of the child. The teachers are given the sole accountability for the total growth and development of the children. On the other hand, children, because of wisdom, have no other alternatives except to perform good or bad in the school. Oftentimes, they formulate their own study habits to cope up with the demands of their respective teachers in every class, at the same time, the demands of the family at home. All too often, children perform poorly in school simply because they lack good study habits. In many cases, students don't know where to begin, don't fully understand the material, are not motivated by it, or feel that there was too much work given to them with too little time to complete or study it. If their studying skills do not improve, these students will continue to test poorly and not perform to their fullest potential. Sorenson (1954) defined study habits as basically consist of effective methods of study. Study habits, a behavior that is repeated until it is automatic, find its way in the aspects of education. Good (1998) define the term study habits as:......
