An Educational Autobiography

December 11th, 2012
Since I could remember I always had stars in my eyes as bright as diamonds are. When I was in 4th grade I formed a group called the California Girls and each member had their own special “Hollywood “name. My Hollywood name was Debbie Ruby. I now know looking back, it sounds like a porn star name. But that was me at the ripe young age of 10 not knowing what went behind all that glitz and glamour I had seen on television growing up. In the 6th grade year book, right next to my picture beside ‘what do you want to be when you grow up’ was the words “an actress.” There was always something intriguing about the idea of Hollywood, and it has always had its grasp on me just like a collar around a dog’s neck and it still does.
The Hollywood film industry takes art in a vital role in society and within that connection lays the opportunity to help shape a socially conscious agenda in the 21st Century. Power, intentionally employed, can awaken the birth of transformational progression and advancement in our world. Power is an aptitude to be cherished- it is grimly abused when utilized strictly for economic or personal rewards. Hollywood is the epitome of power strictly for personal and/or economic gain.
Lights, camera, action! It all sounds enticing doesn’t it? The glitz, glamour, and fame is all one thinks of when Hollywood comes to mind, but what about the dark side of Hollywood? Nobody ever talks about that. It slaps you harder in the face than you could ever imagine. A lot of people move to Hollywood chasing a dream that has been a part of their entire being since as far back as they can recall. Against the toughest competition along with the hurdles of living in a big city, those…...

...Education Autobiography After being in school for the last thirteen years of my life, I would say I have a good education. Me being who I am, I think I am common sense smart more than book smart. Looking back, my education, my knowledge has improved. From learning 1+1=2, to the quadratic formula and George Washington to Barack Obama. My education has improved tremendously. We had about 15 people per classroom and it was more girls than guys I would say. Throughout grade school which being from kindergarten to the fifth grade, we were a diverse school. We had a couple gay guys, a few blacks, a couple Mexicans, and whites. This didn’t really affect me in anyway because I truly believe everyone is created equally. Having people being different didn’t affect my school. School is school, and only you can have a good or bad experience. The grading was on an easy scale which gave a wide range for an A and B and so forth. We had strict rules that basically if you didn’t do your homework you would receive a 0. Teachers had the power to do whatever they wanted with the homework and punishment. When I say punishment I don’t mean out of control, but if you miss taking a test and don’t make it up, you usually get sent to the principal’s office to take it. I had no trouble in the school with anything. I went along the day doing my own thing and minded my own business. In middle school the teachers were very on task. I think that’s because you are getting used to the fact that......

...Introduction Our analysis of Hollywood film industry show us the industry as an oligopoly and we decided to analyse its characteristics through the “structure conduct performance of this industry” (SCP) Industrial concentration has been a concern for economics studies, while analysing Hollywood film industry we found a significant amounts of concentration with the largest companies that give them an amount of monopoly power that they use on its benefit preventing new comers, the power is use as a barrier to entry the market is often exercised in ways that harm the all industry. Measures of concentration are important for the analysis of imperfect competition brought by monopolistic markets, and governments use them when are considering antitrust policies and companies merging. These measures provide an indication of the ability of the largest firms to control prices and competition. Monopolies have the advantages of lowering production costs economic of scales and profit maximisations setting mark ups prices that can be one of the reason for unequal market competition and in not much benefit for consumers. Although concentration is problematic in the industry it represent special problem in the movies business because, the big screen operates not only in the market of goods and services but also as ideological diversify market newer and fresher ideas can coming at any time. Brainwashed and manipulation can arise as a consequence of a significant monopoly power......

Hollywood

...Hollywood is a district in Los Angeles, California, U.S.A., situated west-northwest of Downtown. Due to its fame and cultural identity as the historical center of movie studios and stars, the word "Hollywood" is often used as a metonym for the American film and television industry. Today much of the movie industry has dispersed into surrounding areas such as Burbank and the Westside, but significant ancillary industries (such as editing, effects, props, post-production, and lighting companies) remain in Hollywood. Many historic Hollywood theaters are used as venues to premiere major theatrical releases, and host the Academy Awards. It is a popular destination for nightlife and tourism, and home to the Walk of Fame. There is currently no official boundary of Hollywood (Los Angeles does not have official districts), but the 2002 secession movement and the current Neighborhood Council boundaries can serve as guides. There is a sign at the northeast corner of Fairfax Avenue and Melrose Avenue indicating that one is entering Hollywood. Generally, Hollywood's southern border follows Melrose Avenue from Vermont Avenue west to Fairfax Avenue. From there, the boundary continues north on Fairfax, wrapping east around the separate City of West Hollywood along Willoughby Avenue then wrapping around on La Brea and heads west along Fountain Avenue before turning north again on Laurel Canyon Boulevard into the Hollywood Hills. The eastern boundary follows Vermont Avenue north from......

...This is my autobiography about me! I’ll be telling you all about me. My name is Michelle Rain Ballentyne. I was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on November 13th, 1999 at 1:51am, while my fraternal twin brother was born at 2:02am. His name is Michael Thunder Ballentyne. As of today, we’re fourteen years old. These pictures are the Women’s hospital, my astrology sign and a picture of us. In 1990, our mom and dad were together. They had a horrible relationship. Three years later, they broke up and our dad stayed in Flin Flon while our mom relocated to Winnipeg. Our parents had us in 1999. Our mom was 18 at the time and this caused problems because of the great age difference between our parents. At 1 ½ months our mom took off with us to Thompson. At 2 ½ months, we were put into foster care because our mom left us with a babysitter to go to a party and she never came back. We went to a bunch of homes after that. One time, we went to live with our dad but Child and Family Services received calls from a dentist saying that our dad was drunk when he took Michael to the dentist. We went to numerous homes after that, although we don’t really remember what they were like. Our dad had six months to prove that he was able to take care of us. Sadly, he never got to keep us. I came home to my dad in a police car with my brother crying in a black car. I got in the car and a lady drove us to a new home. Those pictures were at our kindergarten graduation and us at the fair. We started......

An Autobiography

...The page before Donald M. Murray’s “All Writing is Autobiography” warns readers that Murray’s opinion on writing is different from most other opinions. Prior to reading Murray’s article, I agreed with those opinions which included the rule: never use the word “I” in a formal paper. While writing this paper, I feel a strong urge to erase the words “I agreed” and rewrite the entire page in a more formal manner. Murray’s article changed my idea of the writing process by making me realize that every piece of writing is autobiographical whether or not an author is writing objectively through word choice, sentence structure, metaphors, and even punctuation. A reader can learn much about an author through his or her word choice. An author’s diction may seem more colloquial or more obscure and academic depending on his or her personality. Murray demonstrates how an author can use creativity by creating words when he uses the words “squenched and “companioned” in his poem “At 64, Talking Without Words.” Though these are not words one would find in a dictionary, they are understood by readers and aid in defining the author. Sentence structure is an important piece of writing. An author may utilize a run-on sentence or a one-worded sentence in order to create a point or emphasize one, however grammatically incorrect the sentence may be. Charlotte Brontë, for example, frequently uses run-one sentences in order to complete a thought without the interruption of a period. Authors......

...“My Idiosyncratic Life” Idiosyncratic means unique and one of a kind. Everyone has an individuality and uniqueness of their story in their lives. I am Deirdre Ava M. Castanas and this is my autobiography. I am cheerful, kind-hearted, understanding, outgoing, adventurous, and an average thinking person. I was born on June 29, 2000 in UPHMC. I grew up here in Las Pinas with my family. I have 2 siblings, 1 sister and 1 brother. My parents work abroad so they can help us with our financial needs. I study at University of Perpetual Help Las Pinas since I was 5 years old. My siblings studied here too in their highschool days. I am studying as Grade 8 now and I must say, it was really going well. I am studying hard and aiming high for I felt this feeling that I want to take my studies seriously. I don’t know why but I just woke up and felt matured. Like matured enough to take things seriously. Growing up must be really hitting me. Maturity is spreading through all of me. They said, highschool life is really important and memorable. It is true, but sometimes it is hard to handle things in highschool life. Like having the same sched, doing some hard projects and handling teenager’s stuff like love. I am young but thinking like adult. They called it Young-adult stage. This is the stage where I’m in now. Handling studies and that teenager’s stuff, was not that hard. You’d just know when or how to deal with these things. You could have a relationship which has a priority of taking......

...Cultural Linguistic Autobiography Linguistic and Ethnic Background: As a bilingual facilitator and instructional coach for a primarily EL school, I’ve always wondered how much my personal cultural and linguistic background has affected my capacity to fulfill the needs of English language learners. My family and I are Mexican American with family background from Spain. I was born in Mexico and migrated to the United States at the age of 10. I grew up in a very close and proud family where Spanish was the primary language. Spanish was used in my home by my parents and English by siblings. I was never exposed to other languages until I migrated to the United States. Throughout my life I’ve been exposed to Spanish, English, French (high school) and Italian (college). I believe that my personal experience in acquiring a second language has made me realize and understand the needs of English language learners. K-12 Schools in the United States I consider myself very fortunate to have had the opportunity to attend school in Mexico from K-4th and the remaining of 4th -12th in the United States. I have to admit that my first years in the US school system were challenging but certainly rewarding. I migrated to the United States in the mid 1980’s. At that time, being an English learner was not well accepted by society. Our education system was not equipped with the proper resources. I struggled with acquiring the language properly. My parents were very concern about our......

...The Effects of Hollywood Since the eventful day of September 11th torture has been a hot topic for the media, movies, and has even sparked debate amongst government officials. In the article, “Whatever it Takes” by Jane Mayer, she debates on the subject by comparing real life torture from an interrogators point of view and those of the fantasy world from which the producers and writers come up with for the hit TV show 24. Mayer attempts to influence her readers about the effects that the show 24 has on its viewers, which include young cadets, through interviews with highly trained interrogators. Mayer also interviews the show’s writers, producers, and actors to expose some of the main concerns in regards to the torture scenes in the hit show 24. Throughout the article, Mayer makes it clear that she does not agree with the way torture is being projected in the show 24 by starting off her discussion questioning the producer’s credibility, Joel Surnow. Mayer wants people to see Surnow as an arrogant and selfish person by quoting Surnow as saying, “People in the Administration love the series, too, it’s a patriotic show. They should love it” (Surnow Qtd in Mayer 1). Mayer’s point is that Surnow is very confident in the show’s popularity regardless of the criticism the show brings amongst some of its viewers. Surnow also bluntly tells Mayer that he is arrogant, there’s no denying it. She also points out many times in her article that he is a conservative and goes on to say......
