CHARACTER EVALUATION: STRANGE CASE OF DR. JEKYLL and MR. HYDE, (Robert Lewis Stevenson, (1886))

“I learned to recognize the thorough and primitive duality of man . . . if I could rightly be said to be either, it was only because I was radically both” (Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Robert Lewis
Stevenson (1886). Dr. Jekyll’s self-description of his personality, toward the beginning of his impending and irrevocable metamorphosis, fit comfortably into the category of what is known as psychoticism. Hans Eysenck (1952) proposed that a susceptibility to psychosis represented an important dimension of Personality and might, in fact, be present, in mild form, in the general population. Consequently, Dr. Jekyll seems to be the subject of this mental disorder, coupled with scientific product. Although it is safe to say that most of us would score somewhere at the low or high end of the Big Five characteristic traits, there is usually a plateau upon which we can be scored.
Contrarily, Dr. Jekyll fluctuated between these two extremes, enjoying each in its totality, until the pressure of the duality became too much to bear. I believe the concept of humanity’s sense of good and evil (our duality) can be represented by the low and high ends of the Big Five characteristic traits that dwell within us all. Therefore, the individual who is perceived as psychotic, as was Dr. Jekyll, could possibly be fighting the notion that good and evil exists within us all and results in the evil being projected onto others.

Analyzing the story of Dr. Henry Jekyll and Mr. Edward Hyde, theories vary as to what kind of evil Mr.
Hyde heaped on the public, as it is never really…...

...The Sleep Matrix Why do we sleep? What governs when or how long we sleep? This activity will assist you in understanding two common sleep theories, recuperation and circadian, which provide different answers to these questions. Depending on which one you support, it may change your outlook on sleep and your current sleeping habits. Categorize each characteristic under the correct theory—recuperation or circadian—by placing an “X” in the appropriate column. Then, answer the questions that follow. Recuperation Circadian Sleep restores the body to a state of homeostasis. X Sleep plays no role in physiological functioning. X We become tired when it is dark out. X Function of sleep is to restore energy levels X Function of sleep is to conserve energy X We become tired from wakefulness. X We sleep until the body is physiologically sound. X We sleep based on an internal timing mechanism. X Sleep depends on vulnerability from predators. X Sleep deprivation may cause behavioral disturbances. X We have a sleep-wake cycle. X When we sleep is based on some evolutionary aspects. X 1. What are the main differences between the recuperation and circadian theories? The main difference between each theory is that the circadian theory states that people sleep because of the sleep-wake cycle, which is out of human control and evolutionarily determined. The recuperation theory, on the other hand, states that people sleep until their bodies are physiologically......

...University of Phoenix Material Appendix C Models of Abnormality Psychologists use several different models to explain abnormal behavior. These different models have created shifts in values and beliefs as well as improvements in clinical research. These differences in ideas mean that the different models are sometimes in conflict with one another. Read the brief profile of Willard and follow the directions to complete the chart: Willard is an angry man. He often gets his way by bullying and berating others.
