Seventh-Day Adventist Church

Axia of University of Phoenix

Seventh-Day Adventist falls under the denomination of Christianity. They are a faith community rooted in the beliefs described in the Holy Scriptures. They believe that Jesus is one of the three persons; The Father, The Son, and Holy Spirit called the Trinity who makes up one God. The Holy Bible describes Jesus as the Father and the Holy Spirit as each being committed to our growth as Christians and to our salvation as their children. The salvation was made possible by Jesus being born as a human baby. He lived perfectly according to God’s perfect will, died innocently for all sins, and was placed in a tomb where he then rose from the dead in three days. When I sat down to interview my source, whom asked not to be mention by name, I asked her, what is the core or main beliefs of a SDA worshipper; she replied, “they (SDA) have a set of core beliefs we live by; we believe that the Seventh Day Sabbath or Jewish Sabbath was never changed and therefore we continue to observe the Sabbath on Saturday instead of Sunday. It is observed from sundown Friday night until sundown on Saturday night. They believe just as most other Christians that Jesus will soon return and their mission in the meanwhile is to get the people prepared for this day. The SDA believe that they have the right to “Religious Freedom based on the idea of the church that those who worship Jesus on Saturdays will be persecuted by their country. Not only do they believe in abstinence from alcohol, drugs, and tobacco, they also believe that any animal meat is unclean; therefore most of your SDA are vegetarians. Finally, they live moderate and temperate lives, so they do not wear a lot of jewelry just maybe a watch or a simple wedding ring and they do not go out to the movies or dancing because this is the…...

Finally in closing comparison between the Muslim religion and another religion will be discussed. World Religions Report The Islam Religion which is a very interesting religion; in this religion Allah is God, it can be traced along with Judaism and Christianity back to Abraham. Which according to Genesis 17:5 his name was changed by God from Abram, to Abraham which means “father of many.” The fact that Abraham played a role in the holy books of Islam, Christianity, and Judaism is the reason that they are sometimes referred to as “Abrahamic religions.” He is considered to be the father of the people of Israel through his son Isaac by his wife Sarah. When it comes to Muslims he is a prophet of Islam and an ancestor of Muhammad by his other son Ishmael who was born to him by Sarah’s servant. In order to keep Ishmael and Hagar safe from Sarah who was very jealous, Abraham took them to Mecca, where they built a holy sanctuary known as Ka’bah. After building this sanctuary God told Abraham that this should be a place of pilgrimage. The religion from there became forgotten for the most part, other than by those passing by. Many years later Muhammad was born, unfortunately though his father passed away...

...World Religion Report Today there are over one billion members of the Catholic Church and that number grows daily. What it means to be catholic is to love Jesus completely and to follow him and his teachings. Catholics try to integrate Jesus into every aspect of their daily lives. They believe Jesus is lord, father, the son and the Holy Ghost, the Holy Trinity. They follow the Ten Commandments, Thou shalt have no other gods before me, Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain, Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, Honor thy father and thy mother, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor and Thou shalt not covet. The seven sacraments, Penance, Baptism, Holy Eucharist, Confirmation, Holy Matrimony, Anointing of the Sick, and Holy Orders are the heart of the catholic religion. There are actually three different branches so to say of Christianity, Roman Catholic, Protestant and Eastern Orthodox. The Pope is the head of the Roman Catholic Church. They belong to Catholic churches that are known as parishes, where they go and worship no matter where their location in the world. Catholicism can be traced back to Jesus Nazareth. Its members are headed by Bishops, whose roles originated with the disciples of Jesus. (Patheos Library website, n.d.) Vatican City and Peters Basilica stands above the grave of Peter. ...World Religions Report Jehovah’s Witnesses Stephen Devon Hill Jr. Axia College of the University of Phoenix January 10, 2009 In modern society there are numerous forms of Christianity. Many may be familiar with Catholics, Baptist, or Protestants. One form of Christianity that has created mixed views since its start is that of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Some thoughts that may come to mind when people think of Jehovah’s Witnesses are cult activity, unusual Christian practices, and domineering individuals. This paper will take a look at the life as a Jehovah’s Witness. The paper will cover some of the common practices and beliefs of Jehovah’s Witnesses. The paper will also try to clear up some of the misconceptions that others believe about Jehovah’s Witnesses. The author of this paper has taken the time to research the Jehovah Witness religion by visiting a local Kingdom Hall, conducting an in-person interview with an actual Jehovah Witness, and also conducting research on the internet, as well as the library. ...Field Trip Report on The Calvary Chapel, a Christian Church Prepared for: Professor Shaw Prepared by: Julian Aguirre DeVry University Comparative Religions Field Trip Report February 15, 2013 Memorandum To: Professor Shaw (DeVry University) From: Julian Aguirre Date: February 15, 2014 RE: Field Trip Report on Calvary Chapel, Ranch Cucamonga CA! ______________________________________________________________________________ Introduction The objective of this report is to contrast and compare the culture of the Calvary Church with Catholicism, which is the religion that I practice. A field trip was taken to the Calvary Chapel in Rancho Cucamonga On February 12 of 2013, in which a clear observation of its services was performed. Though the primary belief of the religion is based on the teachings from Jesus Christ, some of its services are different than Catholicism. My overall experience was satisfying, but not convincing enough to have doubts about my own faith. There was a spiritual feeling throughout the church, but it wasn’t too fulfilling for me. The church had no architectural Christian nature, no religious symbols, but the word of God was felt. The church Realistically, as the church was approached, the building itself had no religious appeal. The exterior front looked like an entrance to a hotel, where cabs drove up to drop off and pick up people. There was no religious vibe. My first impression of the church was that it was an industrial building......

...Amber Gray HUM/130 February 28, 2014 Rough Draft World Religions Report Catholicism is one of the earliest forms of Christianity with its elders being the Church of Rome and the Early Church, which are the original followers of Christ. With the influence of Paul, the great missionary, Christianity spread to the non-Jewish world. He traveled throughout the Mediterranean spreading the Christian message and founding numerous churches. By 313 CE, Christianity so heavily influenced the Roman Empire that it became the state religion and Rome became the center of what is now the Roman Catholic Church. However, Rome was split into two areas; the east under Constantine in what is today Turkey and the west under the Pope and a hierarchy of church officials (Fisher, 2005).  These popes were traced back to the Apostle Peter and are therefore linked to those who were close to Jesus. It is this lineage, which is said to grant the Pope special authority as the leader of the Church. The Pope is considered incapable of making errors concerning key points of faith. The churches of the east did not fall in line with the Pope’s claim to overall church authority and other practices. This eventually led to the official break in the early second century and even the Crusaders, whose mission was to take back lands from Muslims, ransacked Constantinople by destroying a sacred altar and the Holy Church of Wisdom. This act left the east and west permanently separated even until......

World Religions Report: Islam

...World Religions Report: Islam HUM/130 March 13, 2011 Introduction of the religion Islam is a major world religion, with over 1 billion followers worldwide. Followers of Islam are called Muslims. The origin of Islam can be traced back to 7th century Saudi Arabia. Though Islam is one of the largest and most followed religions in the world, it is the youngest of the many religions. According to Secular History, the prophet Muhammad introduced Islam in 610 A.D. after experiencing what he claimed to be an angelic visitation. Muhammad dictated the Qur’an, the holy book of Islam, which Muslims believe to be the preexistent, perfect words of Allah. Though the origin of Islam is generally accredited to the prophet Muhammad but to the devout Muslim, Islam began long before Muhammad ever walked the earth. The Qur’an was dictated by Muhammad but according to the Qur’an, it did not originate with Muhammad. The Qur’an testifies of itself that it was given by God through the angel Gabriel to the prophet Muhammad. "This is a revelation from the Lord of the universe. The Honest Spirit (Gabriel) came down with it, to reveal it into your heart that you may be one of the warmers, in a perfect Arabic tongue" (Sura 26:192-195). "Say, 'Anyone who opposes Gabriel should know that he has brought down this (the Qur'an) into your heart, in accordance with God's will, confirming previous scriptures, and providing guidance and good news for the believers'" (Sura 2:97). ...World Religions Report Kevin Stromsoe HUM/130 August 4, 2011 Frank Mueller The religion that I chose to write about for my World Religion Report is the religion of Christianity. Although the Christian religion is not my own I am still going to fill you in on all of the little things that make up the religion and make it the religion that it is today. I will compare and contrast the two religions of Catholic and Christianity. It will compare and contrast the differences and similarities of the two religions. The main thing that you will read about in this report is the religion of Christianity and how it came about. The main thing that you need to know about this religion is that Jesus died for the people of his religion that they can be cleansed of their sins. While you are reading this paper and you are thinking about what this religion means to you, you need to remember that not every religion is going to affect someone like it affects yourself. The thing to keep in my when you are reading this paper is that you should have an open mind about what you read so that you can take away as much information as you can from this report. The place of worship that I chose to go check out was a church that was relatively close but the place of worship in which I believed would be the best to research. The name of this place of worship that I decided to research was Revival Christian Fellowship. While this place of worship was bigger than any other place of worship that I......

...Seaton Johnson Religion 220 Report #1 In the first day of class we looked at a video which gave us a brief incite of some of the most popular religions of Asia today which includes but not limited to Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Shinto, Islam and Sikhism. In the film I felt that more emphasis was placed on Hinduism and Gandhi, which is only logical giving the importance of Gandhi in the east, he preached of peace and equality, he also played an important role in helping to calm the India Pakistan feud. It should also be noted that we looked at the four stages in life or ashrama which include a student, house holder, forest dweller, and sannyasa. Another important religion that caught my attention however it really isn’t a religion is Buddhism, Buddhism is a nontheistic religion or more so a philosophy of living that encompasses a variety of traditions, beliefs and spiritual practices largely based on teachings attributed to Gautama Buddha, commonly known as the Buddha ("the awakened one"). According to Buddhist tradition, the Buddha lived and taught in the northern part of the Indian subcontinent, He is recognized by Buddhists as an awakened or enlightened teacher who shared his insights to help sentient beings end their suffering through the elimination of ignorance and craving. Buddhists believe that this is accomplished through the direct understanding and perception of dependent origination and the Four Noble Truths. It should also be noted that in some area......

...Running head: WORLD RELIGIONS REPORT World Religions Report XXXXXXXX Axia College HUM 130 XXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXX World Religions This paper presents research of the beliefs and practices of Roman Catholicism; describes the worship space of the church; summarizes an interview conducted with a believer; and finally, compares Roman Catholicism to Islam. The Roman Catholic Church’s origins come directly from the teachings of Jesus and his disciples, as do all denominations of Christianity. “Jesus sent his disciples into all the world, and Paul had opened the church to the Gentiles. In a sense catholic Christianity was simply a development of Jesus’ plans and Paul’s efforts”. (Shelley, 1995) When Constantine became the first Christian Roman emperor in 313 A.D., Christianity became free from persecution and later even became the official religion of the Roman Empire. This however; marked the unofficial end of the unified church as power plays and politics became as much a part of the church as the gospels themselves. In 1054, the Eastern Orthodox Church split from the unified Church over the principle of supreme authority being held by the Bishop of Rome (better known as the Pope). During this time, the Roman Catholic Church also established its own authority to teach and interpret scripture. “Individual believers are not encouraged to read the Bible and seek its meaning;......

...World Religions Report Kevin Scott HUM/130 July 15, 2012 Glenda B. Mitchell World Religions Report Due to the fact that, religion is in itself a very sensitive subject, when discussing the topic great care must be taken to solicit the best answers to many questions. Religion refers to what many call a way of life, where a person expresses the belief in a higher power or faith. Assessing religion helps determine the meaning of believing in a “higher power”. This report will evaluate Pentecostalism and provide an understanding of what religion means to the people of this faith. An interview was conducted with Miss Monica Hampton, who is a believer of the Pentecostal faith. Christianity is a religion that has approximately 38,000 denominations. Many of which cannot be verified, to be significant. However, the denomination known as Pentecostal is not one of those unverified denominations. Pentecostalism like other denominations believes that there is only one God. Jesus is the son of God, and he died on the cross to erase the sins of man and granted passage into Heaven on Judgment Day. This is the central belief of most if not all Christians and the denominations of Christianity. They believe in “The Trinity”, which is “The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit are one of the same. According to Apostolic Pentecostal Beliefs website, you were required to repent for your sins, be baptized with water and The Holy Spirit. To be baptized in the Holy Spirit, means you had to......

...World Religions Report Hum 130 Saturday 4, 2012 World Religions Report When I read the Syllabus at the beginning of this course, I wondered, what religion could I chose to do this report on. I had been away from the area for so long I did not know anyone to talk to. Someone knocked on my door and asked me if I could come outside, they would like to talk to me. There stood two men who told me they were missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (AKA Mormons). I felt like a higher power sent them to me. I knew nothing about this Church, but I had heard of Mormons and what I had heard was not good. I was curious and wanted to learn more. The missionaries started talking to me about their faith and read to me from the Mormon Bible, and we had prayer that day. They asked me to do some reading in the Bible and write down any questions I had, and we would discuss them when they came back. When they came back we started with some of the history of their Church. They talked to me about Joseph Smith and asked me to keep an open mind. They explained that Joseph Smith was a prophet sent by God to restore the gospel and the priesthood to the earth. “Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph and told him not to join any of the churches, for “They were all wrong” and “they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the......

...World Religions Report Beverly Ross HUM/130 Kenneth Dietz December 17, 2010 Credentials are important when you are choosing a religion. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe in the Bible as the guiding source based on worthy credentials. Their truths are based on the sacred writings of the Bible. For example Genesis 1:1 says: There is one almighty God and Creator who made all things. They believe in one creator who has a name, and that name is Jehovah. Jehovah’s Witnesses are members of a World Wide Christian Religion who share with others information about God and his son, Jesus Christ. They base their belief mainly on the principles found in the Holy Bible, and view first century Christianity as their source. Their founder is Charles Taze Russell whose background and study of the Bible led him to conclude that hellfire does not exist, God is not a Trinity, and that 1914 marked the second coming of Christ. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that all scriptures are inspired of God and beneficial, but some people have even claimed that they are not even Christians. They believe that “There is not another name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must get saved, which is Jesus Christ”. That is quoted in Acts 4:12 of the Bible. They believe that God is greater than Jesus, and that Jesus himself acknowledged that: “The Father is greater that I am,” (John 14:28) they also believe that they should be like Jesus by making God’s......
