What if? (Remart Dumlao) If only I could turn back the time, the time that my family is still complete; laughing, sharing, helping each other. I will do all graceful things that I haven’t done before. My life could have been much happier and more colorful as it is now. Maybe I don’t have regrets why I haven’t tried to do things that somehow will make me happy and satisfied. There are so many what ifs that are running on and keep taunting on my mind. What if I did this? What if I’ve done that? What if? I can still remember my graduation day, where the wall was my companion. No one in the family bothered to waste even a single minute. I saw my classmate and her mother who were then very happy having their snacks. They kept on laughing and I could see in their eyes that they are very much contented being together, as if they do not have any problem and the world smiles at them as if they’re only soul in the world that would be happy. Drop of tears suddenly fell down my face from the windows of my soul. Then, someone tapped my shoulder and whispered saying “I’m available balong to be your mother”. I’m so thankful for that living angel, which is my adviser. I continued watching my classmate and his mother when suddenly; I paused and had a little realization. What if my mother and I were doing that? Could we get happier than them? Will they also envy us? This scenario created the question that kept on dashing my mind, which I could not escape and make self-pity. As I went through my apprehensions, I have seen that life is not fair. Experiences are not fair. Individuals are not fair. Why? It is because I have proven everything in this world. It is not fair but even though the very thing that I have is my faith to God. How can I make everything fair? Did God created us with life’s uncertainty? What if I had a happy childhood?
Would I become the person I am right…...

...INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE The internal combustion engine is an engine in which the combustion of a fuel (normally a fossil fuel) occurs with an oxidizer (usually air) in a combustion chamber that is an integral part of the working fluid flow circuit. In an internal combustion engine (ICE) the expansion of the high-temperature and high-pressure gases produced by combustion apply direct force to some component of the engine. The force is applied typically to pistons, turbine blades, or a nozzle. This force moves the component over a distance, transforming chemical energy into useful mechanical energy. The first commercially successful internal combustion engine was created by Étienne Lenoir. The term internal combustion engine usually refers to an engine in which combustion is intermittent, such as the more familiar four-stroke and two-stroke piston engines, along with variants, such as the six-stroke piston engine and the Wankel rotary engine. A second class of internal combustion engines use continuous combustion: gas turbines, jet engines and most rocket engines, each of which are internal combustion engines on the same principle as previously described. The ICE is quite different from external combustion engines, such as steam or Stirling engines, in which the energy is delivered to a working fluid not consisting of, mixed with, or contaminated by combustion products. Working fluids can be air, hot water, pressurized water or even liquid sodium, heated in some kind......

...2013 Stem Cell and Human Cloning Research and Ethics Questions about ethics in research have increased and unethical issues rise from different fields such as Medicine and Science. When the discussion about stem cell and human cloning researches rise for the meaning, “what is life?” the question is simple, but the answer is still unclear. This paper is an overview of the articles about stem cell and human cloning researches that discuss business research ethics and involves ethical and unethical issues. A stem cell is a type of cell found into the body of all human beings, has the capability to reproduce them, and to produce other types of cells such as brain cells, muscle cells, and others. In the New York Times’ article is very clear that the ongoing battle to make this research valid is relentless. This research can be the potential that holds for the future generation and scientists affirms; “stem cells may be used to replace or repair damaged cells, and have the potential to drastically change the treatment of conditions like cancer, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease and even paralysis.” (Harris, 2012) However, opponents of embryonic stem cell want the research to be restricted or prohibited entire as inhumane because most researches are done by creating embryonic stem cell from fertilized cells. When the approach is human cloning there is no difference, opponents to the research claim that it is immoral and unethical. In human cloning, women's eggs were......

... SIMPLE DISTILLATION OF VODKA (THE BAR) Somo, John Carlo , Sopoco, Marc Andrew , Sotong, Patricia , Venturina, Flian Lyra , Tia, Queenie de Leon 2B- Medical Technology Faculty of Pharmacy UST ABSTRACT Distillation is the method used for purifying liquids and separating mixtures of liquids into their individual components. The experiment targets to differentiate the two methods; simple and fractional distillation, to separate its water and alcohol components, and to determine the percentage of ethanol present in the vodka using simple distillation. A volume of 15mL vodka was poured into the distillation flask for heating/boiling by the alcohol lamp. 0.50 ml of distillate was collected in every calibrated test tube until the temperature reached 100 C. The initial/first and the final distillates were kept for the testing of flammability. The first distillate was the one containing the ethanol since it is flammable, while the other one is inflammable so it is the one with the purified water content. INTRODUCTION Distillation is the method of converting a liquid to vapor, condensing the vapor, and collecting the distillate in another container. It is used to separate liquids from nonvolatile solids, as in the separation of alcoholic liquors from fermented materials, or in the separation of two or more liquids having different boiling points, as in the separation of gasoline, kerosene, and lubricating oil from crude oil. In the modern organic chemistry laboratory, distillation......

Innovation Strategy

...R&D: investment in basic researches (researches that advance knowledge) Investment in applied researches (researches for specific problem or topic, usually with commercial object, followed by development to create product)--different spending on applied and basic researches for different firms (low-tech and high tech); difference spending between firms and government. * Incentives (financial or non-financial) for employees to come up with new ideas. Usually, firms tend to spend more on applied researches while government tend to invest more on basic researches. Applied researches have direct positive relationship with return on innovation, while the basic researches don’t (for low-tech firms, it even has negative effect), and it’s harder to prevent it from knowledge spillovers (hard to appropriate for firms). So firms spend more on applied researches with commercial object, which could help them to introduce innovations and stay competitive. Some firms do spend on basic researches because it could complement applied researches; it signals firm’s competence in different scientific areas; it establishes new relationship with universities and institutes; it sometimes creates unexpected discoveries that lead to innovations; it increases the knowledge stock that creates new avenues for problem solving. For high-tech firms, their products and processes change rapidly. Considering consumers’ expectations, they tend to spend more on applied researches to keep up with......

...isolated to Ethnic, Gender and Geology, specially in the management level researches. Example: Surveys conducted by Etienne (Exploring Workplace Bullying in Nursing, 2014, p8) and Johnson (JONA, Vol 45,No. 9, p458), responds rate was at merely at 1% and samples were predominately White American(88%) and Female(94%). Does this mean ethnic minority nurses don’t feel bullied? More databases needed to be researched to accurately measure the affects of Majority Managers and Minority Subordinates relation where 50% of above respondents feels they are being bullied by the managers or directors(Johnson and Rea, 2009, Exploring Workplace Bullying in Nursing, 2014, p6). ‘Workplace Bullying’ within the Nurses are in a way more serious than in other professional field. Many researches implies that the Bullying not just affect the victim’s performance and lead to personal trauma but affects the treatment of the patients as well. Survey conducted by Rosenstein and O’Daniel(2005) shows that workplace bullying not only affects the workers(Nurses) and the Organization(Hospital) but shows the link between disruptive behavior and patient mortality by increased risk of clinical error. It’s imperative that ‘workplace bullying’ in Nurses need to be identified and acknowledged in more urgent manner to ensure the safety and of both worker and the patients. To eliminate and to prevent workplace bullying further researches need to be made on contributing factors in Nursing not only in Working......

There Is No Hope of Doing Perfect Research

...fast changing where one invention is outlived with another greater invention through a series of various researches. The first known feedback control system is the Ktesibios’s water clock in Egypt in the third B.C, followed by the furnace temperature regulator by Drebbel (1620) and James Watt’s flyball governor speed regulator in 1788 (en.wikipedia.org). Until then, a lot of automatic devices have been improvised for human’s convenience to accomplish tasks in an attempt to present solutions to a lot of inconsistencies in nature. According to Murill (2000) the scientific principles that process control is based upon are unchanging. There is, however, considerable variation in the hardware and software available from vendors and in the application and practice of these control principles from one industry to another. These unchanging scientific principles are products of research that can be considered perfect in their own time and objectives by which they have been done. Another example of product of research is the periodic table. Remarkable people in the history that had contributed to the periodic table of elements are Hennig Brand, Johann Dobereiner, A.e. Beguyer de Chancourtois, and John Newlands. The periodic table of elements was then published in 1870 due to the follow-up intensive researches of Lothar Meyer and Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleev (bpc.edu). Current researches are on going to discover other elements. It is an open possibility that the currently renowned rules......
