...Synopsis Born on May 14, 1984 in Dobbs Ferry, New York, Mark Zuckerberg co-founded the social-networking website Facebook out of his college dorm room. He left Harvard after his sophomore year to concentrate on the site, the user base of which has grown to more than 250 million people, making Zuckerberg a billionaire. The birth of Facebook was recently portrayed in the filmThe Social Network. Understanding people is not a waste of time. – Mark Zuckerberg Early Life Mark Elliot Zuckerberg was born on May 14, 1984 in Dobbs Ferry, New York, into a comfortable, well-educated family. His father, Edward Zuckerberg, ran a dental practice attached to the family's home. His mother, Karen, worked as a psychiatrist before the birth of the couple's four children—Mark, Randi, Donna and Arielle. Zuckerberg developed an interest in computers at an early age; when he was about 12, he used Atari BASIC to create a messaging program he named "Zucknet." His father used the program in his dental office, so that the receptionist could inform him of a new patient without yelling across the room. The family also used Zucknet to communicate within the house. Together with his friends, he also created computer games just for fun. "I had a bunch of friends who were artists," he said. "They'd come over, draw stuff, and I'd build a game out of it." To keep up with Mark's burgeoning interest in computers, his parents hired private computer tutor David Newman to come to the house once a week and......

Reserch Paper - Capital Investments

...CAPITAL INVESTMENTS: MODELS USED IN DECISION MAKING Capital investments are long-term investments made by companies to eventually enhance profitability and shareholder value. Capital investments normally last a company for a number of years, and they take longer periods of time to implement or enhance within an organization. Some examples of capital investments include, but are not limited too: automation in factories (equipment and software), research and development, equipment to improve quality control, software to test productivity measures, etc. These investments include a great deal of labor, capital and time to implement. Since capital investments can be risky, meaning any losses will be large to the organization considering the amount of time and capital involved, organizations have a process to determine what capital investments they should get involved in, and why. Capital investment decisions are concerned with the process of planning, setting goals and priorities, arranging financing and using certain criteria to select long-term assets. (“Hansen & Mowen,” 2011) Companies may start by listing all the improvements that are to be made to affect profitability in the long run. Since these improvements will consume large amounts of time and capital, it is not feasible for companies to make multiple investments at a time. To assist in deciding which investment to take on first, the company must calculate which will be the most profitable and increase......

Heros Reserch Paper

...Heroes We live in a world where we are told we can do what we want and we are in control of our own lives, but does that mean we can take our own lives as well? Today our suicide rates are raising rapidly as the younger generations grow. As of now, the topic of legalizing assisted suicide is being as the rates of the terminally ill rise. We as morally upright people should ban together and stop the legalization of assisted suicide because it will create a black market, the emotional and mental state of the assailant is put into jeopardy and if doctors are involved in the suicide they are violating the morals the vowed to honor upon certification. If assisted suicide became legal what would happen to the bodies? Sure, some will have a proper funeral and be buried accordingly but what about those people who are financially unstable and only see death as a way out of all their problems. One possibility is they are sold to black market buyers whose specialty is body parts and organs. If assisted suicide was made legal black market contributors would see this opportunity to be able get all the organs they wanted and sold them at ridiculous prices. It could a common notion that someone of the deceased would not want their body that there “in control” of be cut up and sold off on an illegal buying place. Allen Hall presents a very compelling argument as she is reporting on a woman who is working as a nurse at Dignatis, an assisted suicide clinic named, Soraya Wernli. Wernli......

...Figurative language Figurative language can take multiple forms such as simile or metaphor. Merriam-Webster's Encyclopedia Of Literature says that figurative language can be classified in five categories: resemblance or relationship, emphasis or understatement, figures of sound, verbal games, and errors. A simile is a comparison of two things, indicated by some connective, usually "like", "as", "than", or a verb such as "resembles" to show how they are similar. Example: "His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry.../And the beard on his chin was as white as the snow." A metaphor is figure of speech in which two "essentially unlike things" are shown to have a type of resemblance or create a new image. The similarities between the objects being compared may be implied rather than directly stated. Example: "Fog comes on little cat feet" An extended metaphor is metaphor that is continued over multiple sentences. Example: "The sky steps out of her daywear/Slips into her shot-silk evening dress./An entourage of bats whirr and swing at her hem, ...She's tried on every item in her wardrobe." Onomatopoeia is a word designed to be an imitation of a sound. Example: “Bark! Bark!” went the dog as he chased the car that vroomed past. Personification is the attribution of a personal nature or character to inanimate objects or abstract notions, especially as a rhetorical figure. ...NT1110 Unit 4 Research Paper Student NT1110 Abstract Components and technology of today’s computer motherboards. This paper will give a brief description of chipsets, Motherboard bus’s, & Component Integration. NT1110 Unit 4 Research Paper The chipset on today’s computers is responsible for managing the flow of information between the CPU, Memory, & the Peripherals. Chipsets are usually deigned to work with a specific family of microprocessor such as Intel or AMD. Mother board Buses can be broken down into two different types, the first type is the internal bus. The internal bus is easily recognized by the gold lines of wire that run throughout the motherboard. The external buses are the slots filled with pins on the motherboard. Both types of bus are basically the lines of communication for the mother boar. There are six major types of external buses on a common motherboard, only a few of these are found on the mother board of a home PC, they are PCI, AGP, USB, & IDE. The external Buses connect to the Internal bus via the pins in there Appropriate slots, those pins transfer the information from the external buses to the internal bus and then to the final destination. The final topic of this paper is component Integration, component integration has eliminated the need for individual component hard ware and the heat they produce. The elimination of those two things has enabled the manufacturers to reduce the size of today’s computers enabling the......

Reserch Report Solar Energy

...reserch report Solar Energy Solar energy is a perfect source of energy. Energy with no pollution what so ever. No poisonous gasses or destruction of rainforests. This never ending source of energy comes from the sun. Solar energy is the visible energy produced in the sun as a result of a constant nuclear fusion reaction. The amount of energy at the solar constant, which is at outer edge of the earth's atmosphere, is two calories per minute per cm squared. A calorieis the amount of energy needed to raise one gram of water one degree Celsius. If we could efficiently harness the energy bombarding the earth for twenty-four hours we could power New York for a year. Unfortunately the photovoltaic cells that change the energy into electricity are so inefficient that it would take twenty-five years to pay for it's self in output. There many uses of solar energy. Some homes rely fully on the power of the sun to heat their water. Other houses have flat plate collectors which aid in the heating of the house and water. Solar Energy plays a vital role in the absorption cooling cycle in a process called solar cooling. Since wind is caused by the up and down movement of hot and cold air, wind energy can be a branch of solar energy. The same thing with tidal energy. And since the sun plays a vital role in the water cycle hydroelectric energy can be attributed to solar energy. Solar Energy has great potential in becoming a main source of energy in the future....

Volkswagen Reserch Paper

...The Volkswagen Beetle The Beetle Volkswagen is an old car that has been around for decades. The first Beetle was made by Adolf Hitler in Germany in the year of 1938. That makes this car over 75 years old. They prices the first Beetle at $106 on average to an average family. Not like the cars at the time, it had an engine that could go over 100km without using more than 7 liters of gasoline. For that reason it was presented the nickname “the people’s car”. Now, the Beetles have been modified to be different. Since there are so many different models in different years, I chose one that when I think beetle, I think the Volkswagen New Beetle GL Hatchback 2b. Most people don’t know what it is called but see the picture below to get a good idea. This particular car has a 1984cc, 2 liter in-line 4 engine with 82.5 mm bore, 92.8 mm stroke, 10 compression ratio, and overhead cam, three valve per cylinder, air-cooled and with a torque of 122ft at 2600rpm. As well as a horsepower of 115mph at 5208rpm. Also, this car goes 21 mpg on city roads and 28mpg on the highway with a 14.5 gallon tank. For this particular car, the pricing varies. If you want a brand new, 2015, beetle, the price would average at about $24,993. If you were to get a used, 2000, beetle, the price would average at $3920. Now, the oldest beetle you can get is from 1998, still, that is over 15 years old. Anyway, it wouldn’t be as long as you think. The average for that year and model of the beetle would be $2953....

The previous owners landscaped part of the backyard, but she would like help in landscaping the rest of it. Andy has the potential to be a great landscaper, but isn’t very good at math and will need Jourdan’s help before he can get started. Jourdan’s yard is 200 feet long, and its width is 75% of its length. The portion of her yard that does not need to be landscaped is along the shortest part of the yard and is 10% of the width of that part of the yard. Jourdan would like to put in grass, but does not want it to take up more than 1/25 of the space in her yard (space is in ft2). What is the largest area the grass can take up? If Jourdan’s grass takes up that much space and each grass piece 4ft wide, how long are they? Jourdan would like to add some brick to her patio. If each of those bricks is 6 inches long 3 inches wide. She only needs to cover 15 square feet, how many bricks does she need? We have discovered that the length of her yard is 150 feet. She will not need to landscape 15 square feet. 120 square feet of yard space will be covered in grass. Each piece of that grass is 30 feet in length. The last part of her landscaping will include laying down some brick and we found out that she will need 10......

...student-centered environment is a beneficial pedagogy to extend learners’ academic-style writing practice. Therefore, this study focused on investigating effectiveness of peer feedback from communal, cognitive, cooperative and pedagogical perspectives. This study also argues that it is English writing teachers’ obligation and responsibility that they should ensure their writing learners compose articles in an atmosphere where they can learn from their peers cooperatively. According to Coit (2004), “Based on theories in collaborative learning and social cognitive development, peer review has assumed an important role in both L1 and L2 writing classrooms.” (p. 902) When students are authorized to take on the role of the editor for their peer’s papers to carry out the correction process, they seem to be more confident and motivation-stimulated in their writing courses. In order to achieve this significant goal of releasing students’ anxiety and raising their confidence in their writings, this study associated with peer correction was conducted and demonstrated at a required writing course assigned by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature, a National University in Taiwan, Republic of China. During eight weeks of writing training and peer feedback activities, seven volunteers out of sixteen 16 English majors provided their feelings of the selected pedagogies in their advanced writing course in three credits. The results of this study revealed that most......

Reserch Methods - Cat

...Using Communication Accommodation Theory (CAT) as a framework, this paper presents a multi-method investigation of the communicative behaviors in culturally heterogeneous workgroups (CHWs). Analysis of observations (participant and non-participant), semi structured interviews, and self-report surveys from both field and student samples provide insight on the communicative behaviors and strategies employed in the production and management of both productive and destructive conflict and outcomes for CHWs. The research demonstrates the usefulness of the CAT framework to analyses of conflict in CHWs and provides fresh insights on the triggers and management strategies associated with conflict in CHWs. A topical organizational scheme will be used in this section to increase the knowledge of this theory for the reader. As you may perhaps guessed, many scholarly articles focus in the concepts of convergence and divergence when it comes to testing or supporting CAT but instead of stating one research scholarly article at the time with its hypotheses, methods and findings, a synthesis of several articles with overlaps in topics will be given instead. Let’s start with relationships, One important aspect of speech accommodation theory to consider is how researchers evaluate speech. By examining factors that are used to determine speech behaviors, much can be learned about the study of accommodation. There are several characteristics of speech upon which researchers have focused...
