Sexual Strategies Theory: An Evolutionary Perspective on Human Mating
Because of the lower level of minimum parental investment incurred by men, short-term mating will represent a larger component of men’s sexual strategies than women’s sexual strategies (Buss & Schmitt, 1993). An Evolutionary Perspective on Human Mating by Buss & Schmitt examines the background on evolutionary theory when it relates to the human mating strategies. The article expands on how both men and women have particular psychological mechanism that triggers which relationships, short term or long term will help them choose a partner for life, when it relates to mating relationships. The article discussed the effects on long-term relationships and how these types of relationships, compares to the short term, which are known to be called brief affairs, one stand, or temporary liaison time lengths. “Long temporal durations, however, mating relationships can last for a few months, a few days, a few hours, or even a few minutes” (Buss & Schmitt, 1993).
The article described key hypotheses and predictions that give an outlined summary on theories that were empirically tested that identify sensitive problem in relations with sexual accessibility fertility, commitment seeking and avoidance, paternity certainty, male and females value, and parental investment. In comparison to the homosexual relationships when children were involved there is no stable paternity or parental investments. According to Sutton and Douglas one key difference between homosexuals and heterosexuals is the presence of children (2013). Unlike the past strategies studies on heterosexual mating, the modern article, Mate Retention Behavior of Men and Women in Heterosexual and Homosexual…...

Attitudes to a variety of issues changed including changes towards sexual attitudes. This altered view towards sexual attitudes and behavior is often today referred to as the sexual revolution, also known as the time of sexual liberation. Many different political movements were all important components to this period in the sexual revolution, such as Feminists, gay rights campaigners, and hippies just to name a few. American’s during this era faced many controversial issues – from the civil rights, to the Vietnam War, and nuclear arms, and the time was ripe for change. This climate of change led many, particularly the young in significantly shifting social attitudes, behaviors and institutional regulations surrounding sexuality. The Birth of Contraceptives Sexual liberation was a social movement that challenged what society viewed as the sexual norm and typical gender roles. Sex became more socially accepted outside of monogamous, heterosexual marriages, and increased. The increase in acceptance of intercourse prior to marriage gave individuals more freedom. Sexual Abuse

...about an individual’s response to sexual trauma. The victim of that trauma has a high likelihood of creating an offence of their own, possibly using substance as a way to cope, or make any number of poor choices as a means of dealing with the abuse. What the sad thing is about it all is that many of the offenders begin as children who are powerless to defend themselves to someone who is usually in their Family. It is only through later acknowledging the trauma that someone can begin to understand the outcome of what happened to them from that incident. There are a number of outcomes that will be dicussed as well as the addiction itself and the healing process in this paper. The focus throughout being what the responses are to sexual trauma. What is Sexual Abuse? Sexual abuse is not the only abuse that can occur in a home that can have lifelong affects on a child. There are many abuses at which many different homes are guilty of. For most homes there is much dysfunction and this dysfunction can lead to or open a door for abuse. Because of the home being the primary place for sexual abuse and other abuses it is important to see what types of abuse can come from the home. According to Laaser; there are four types of abuses specific to the home and they are physical, emotional, sexual and spiritual (2004). All of these are serious and can lead to problems for a child later in life what is interesting is that sexual abuse leads to shame and the......

Sexual Perversion

...• Sexual Perversion OR “Unnatural” Sexual Activity I.Introduction Sexual perversions are conditions in which sexual excitement or orgasm is associated with acts on imagery that are considered unusual with culture. In psychology, sexual perversion usually refers to the practice of sex that is beyond normally. Sexual perversion often as is as difficult to define pornography. Some people think that any sexual activity other than sexual intercourse between a man and a woman in the traditional “missionary” position described earlier is perverted or unnatural. Others feel that any type of regular sexual intercourse between a man and a woman, but nothing else, is all right, and still others allow that “anything goes” as long a pleasure is given. Although it refers to a variety of forms of deviation, it is most often used to describe sexual behaviors that are considered particularly abnormal, repulsive, and obsessive. Many recognizes perversion and deviant behavior as the same, however they differ in that the latter cover areas of behavior (such as petty crime) for which “perversion” can be misunderstood for that term. There were many that were considered; dilatory and in psychology literature, the term paraphilia has been used as replacement, though the term is “controversial”. The neutral term paraphilia, derived from Greek roots meaning “alongside of” and “love” is used to describe what used to be called sexual perversions. A paraphilia......

Sexual Addiction

...Sexual Addiction First M. Last Colorado Christian University Sexual Addiction As Christians, we are not perfect, “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us” (1 John 1:8, New International Version). We were born into a world of corruption and were given freewill upon our birth. God gives us the opportunities to “…confess our sins” so that He may “…purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). This is why our Catholic brothers and sisters go to confession; Methodist, Baptist, Protestants, and other Christian denominations go to the alter to pray and ask for forgiveness. Through our Christian walk we will face obstacles and temptations. We will not always make the correct choices and we will fall short of God’s glory by becoming obsessed or addicted to something along the way. By giving into a temptation, doesn’t make you any less of a Christian, it makes you human. The temptations of food, drugs, alcohol, fame, sex, or anything else that can be easily indulged in or over indulged can easily turn into an addiction even for the spiritually strong individual. One addiction that is becoming more popular is the addiction to sex. According to an article on, sexual addiction is defined as “a progressive intimacy disorder characterized by compulsive sexual thoughts and acts.” (Grohol, 2010) The 2010 American Psychiatric Association (APA) criteria draft of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM),......

Sexual Harassment

...When people think of sexual harassment, they typically think of a group of guys saying dirty jokes to a woman. Although that is an example of sexual harassment, it goes much further. Sexual harassment is unwelcome sexual advances, requests for favors of a sexual nature. Title VII applies to employers with 15 or more employees, including state and local governments. It also covers employment agencies and labor organizations as well as the federal government. ( Sexual harassment like many other things has a history. The concept of sexual harassment is not an old one, it is a relatively new term that was started in the 1970s. The term was used in 1973 in “Saturn’s Rings”, a report written by Mary Rowe. This report was given to the Chancellor and President of MIT. The report included multiple types of gender issues that were going on at the institution. Rowe stated that in her opinion she was not the first to use the term because it was talked about in some women’s groups in Massachusetts in the early 1970s. MIT may have been one of the first large......

Sexual Discrimination

...Sexual Discrimination and Sexual Harassment among the sexes Name: Institution: In a post-modern society characterized by rapid economic progression, technological advancement, progressive diversification and complication of social life, issues of sexual harassment and discrimination have come into play, demanding more and more reflection and attention. Research indicates the shows that a large fraction of the current sexual discrimination and harassment occurs in the workplace, and the form of harassment produced has dire consequences as compared to harassment occurring in the public place. The effects exacted on victims extend further than mere mental anguish to include deterioration of employment conditions, where some victims are forced to resign to avoid more harassment ultimately causing economic losses. Notably, the high probability of occurrence of sexual harassment and the severity of harm go beyond the imagination of people and thus it is necessary to understand and solve this issue. This paper investigates sexual harassment and discrimination at the intersections of gender. Specifically, the paper examines the reasons as to why harassment occurs among sexes and why it is underrepresented among each gender. Sexual Deviance

...Sexual Deviance Abstract Sexual deviance has been one of the most maligned stigmas that has been attached to an individual in any society at any time. From the earliest of times, even in Biblical times, there was a connotation of evil surrounding the suggestion of improprieties in any area of the sexual arena. So much so, that areas of life where man, woman and even livestock interacted with each other were regulated. From that time until now sexual acts have been subjected to scrutiny; and a disreputable label attached to any who would openly flaunt its conventions. Keywords: deviance, sanctions, homosexuality SEXUAL DEVIANCE I have expressed an interest in the topic of sexual deviance because it has a personal application in my life at the present time. I am seeking some additional information into the subject and wonder why it is so objectionable to just about all societies. The mass media is a sounding board for the mass audience and is the premier agent that reflects back to society what it is that we accept and what it is we reject. There are a number of social norms that govern sex concerning what is acceptable and what is not acceptable. We will discuss the three different theories of sociology along with mass media and its implications. ...

Sexual Harrassment

...SEXUAL HARASSMENT Abstract Sexual harassment includes a range of actions from mild transgressions to sexual abuse or sexual assault. Sexual harassment is a form of illegal employment discrimination in many countries, and is a form of abuse (sexual and psychological) and bullying. For many businesses and other organizations, preventing sexual harassment, and defending employees from sexual harassment charges, have become key goals of legal decision-making. Many men and women around the world believe that sexual harassment is a practice based on simple sexual attraction.  It is often seen as an expression of male interest and a form of flattering sexual attention for women – a sometimes vulgar but essentially harmless romantic game, well within the range of normal, acceptable behavior between men and women. What is Sexual Harassment? Sexual harassment includes unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical harassment of a sexual nature in the workplace or learning environment, according to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Sexual harassment does not always have to be specifically about sexual behavior or directed at a specific person. For example, negative comments about women as a group may be a form of sexual harassment. Sexual harassment interferes with your performance by threatening your job security or becoming an obstacle to effective work. Although sexual harassment laws do not usually cover teasing or......

Sexual Harrassment

...Sexual Harassment Sexual harassment is described as “intimidation, bullying or coercion of a sexual nature, or the unwelcomed or inappropriate promise of rewards in exchange of sexual favors” by Wikipedia. Sexual harassment is illegal. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission states “It is unlawful to harass a person ( an applicant or employee) because of that person’s sex” (Wikipedia). It can include harassment, unwanted sexual advances, asking for sexual favors, and talking or acting in a sexual manner. It can also include making derogatory remarks about a person’s sex. The victims of sexual harassment can be male or female as well as the harasser. The harasser can be anyone that the victim comes in contact with from the highest management position to just the regular hourly worker. Many victims are hesitant in reporting sexual harassment for fear of retaliation. This is my story: I used to work at McDonald’s in Richmond, VA. I started as a crew person and worked myself up to shift manager. A few months after my promotion cooperate sent us a new general manager. I will call him “Joe”. When Joe first started at my store he was all business and no nonsense bur after a couple of months Joe started to change. He became very touchy feely with the female employees. The female employees became the object of sexual innuendos whenever we had to talk to him. He did not care about the age, size or race. He acted like his attitude was that since we were females we......
