Studenter eksamen – del prøve 2 - Task A 1.
The first text is written by Elizabeth Scott. She is introducing us to her opinion about the theme “Simple living”, which is a very positive view. She is telling us about how we should and should not live. Her statement is that we need to “pare down and get rid of all the extra “stuff” that we think we need, but do not”. By getting all the “stuff” we can live without out of our way, we can focus and remember to enjoy the real important things in life, which could be all kinds of things, including relationships: family, friends, boyfriends/girlfriends and so on.
When we are not thinking about the shallow “stuff” we will have some extra time in our schedule, which will result in less people suffering from stress and more people having/building stronger relationships. And with that extra time, there would also be time to consider how to be a better person and maybe if you are lucky find “your true self” or “who you really are”. Only few people have the option to execute the “simple living”, but many do it because they want to save money and does not have any other choice.
Text two is a written interview which is led by Rachel Fudge. The person who is interviewed is the journalist Judith Levine. The interview is based on Judith Levine’s own book called “Not buying it: My year without shopping”. The book is about how she and her partner made it through a whole year without them buying anything that was not necessary. They took this challenge because they thought they used too much money on material stuff. Her opinion is that the consumption is very harmful to our society, but if we did not have consumption we would not have a good economy.
People are not forced to practice “simple living”, but only few people even have a choice. Judith Levine is overall telling us that you cannot expect the world to change just…...

...Attempting to define how Flaubert wanted the reader to view religion in his short story “A Simple Heart” is frustratingly beautiful. The title figure, Felicite has been variously interpreted by many regarding her representation of religion. Her unsophistication is not to be viewed as a hindrance as it allows her to share a saintly relationship with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Sprit had been reduced to taxidermy as it is portrayed as Felicite’s pet parrot Loulou. Felicite’s quasi-satirical world of spirituality had been diminished to something so non-permanent it made the story difficult to evaluate seriously with regards to religion. However, upon reevaluating the role Loulou played in Felicite’s life and her hardships “A Simple Heart” becomes a compelling tale about a triumphant spiritual journey. This story could easily be dismissed as an artless tale about a woman who experienced adversity and amounted to nothing. But, with some true thought and open-mindedness it is evident that Felicite is truly worthy of sainthood through her dedication to her religion, loved-ones and hard work. The happenings in the movie Donnie Darko built up a purpose for him as well as an understanding as to why he was in the tangent universe in the first place.
