The Causes of Drug Abuse Among High School Students

...THE CAUSES OF DRUG ABUSE AMONG HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT’S 2 The parents of a teenager who talk to his or her teenagers about the use of drugs on a regular basis are 42 percent to not abuse drugs than a teenager whose parents did not talk to him or her. There is a higher amount of male teenagers arrested who have been tested and found positive for marijuana (The National Institute of Justices Arrestee and Drug Monitoring System). With many teenagers, drugs and alcohol are the most commonly abused drugs. Those teenagers do not see what drugs and alcohol can to him or her, or even see the consequences that can result from the abuse. The abuse of drugs can come from a variety of negative problems that the teenager may be going through. Why has there been an increase in drug abuse among high school students in the United States? Teenagers in the United States have one of the highest rates of drug abuse among other countries, and alcohol and tobacco use also still remains high (Higgins, 1988). Peer pressure has been acknowledged as one of the components that affects high school students in the United States. When a teenager is addicted to drugs or medication that he or she is prescribed, he or she may not be able to have control on the amount that he or she uses. Medication that has been prescribed to a teenager may make him or her feel better, but if the medication does not help than he or she may take more of the medication or look......

Prevalence of Alcoholic Drinking Among High School Students

...prevalence of alcoholic drinking among high school students ALCOHOLISM “It discloses secrets; ratifies and confirms our hopes; thrusts the coward forth to battle; eases the anxious mind of its burthen; instructs in arts. Whom has not a cheerful glass made eloquent! Whom not quite free and easy from pinching poverty!” (Horace first century B.C.) Initially, I wanted to write this paper on substance related disorders. However, in reading the text I felt compelled to focus on the psycological effects and problems that are related to alcoholism. With the media we are all too aware of the widespread dilemma that alcohol contributes to our current age. I am amazed that there were indeed alcoholics as far back as 3000 years before christ! Despite the pleasure and relaxation that alcohol can bring to some, it can also destroy others self-wort and integrity. Alcohol affects virtually everyone, whether the individual is himself an alcoholic, is the family member of one, or has been the victim of an alcohol related crime. In spite of the dangers alcohol presents,it is still in countless social cirles. Alcohol penetraes all ages, educational, occupational, and socioeconomical boundaries. Each year it is estimated that ten percent of all deaths are related to alcohol abuse. Am astonishing fifty percent of all major automobile accidents, and murders are associated with alcohol. On and on the statistics point to the enormous dangers of alcohol, yet it is a legalized drug. As bleak as......

...Japan of Axis power during World War II due to Einstein’s Discovery of atomic bomb which landed the city of Nagasaki and Hiroshima in Japan. The presence of technology is really advantageous but the continues dependence of people on this should be prohibited. Dependence on technology is not only prohibited in bigger sectors of society but also in smaller units. The smaller units refer to the youth today whose potentials are the products of globalization. We believe that youth can save the wrong steps of ancient civilizations including today’s generation separated from the future, but their addictions in multimedia devices can break the old tradition. Based from the National Survey of United States of America in the year 2012, the total youth population has dependence in playing computer online games like DOTA Garena, Minecraft, Crossfire International, Special Force, Grand Chase, and CABAL online which were included in the Top Ten Most Played Games of 2012. It has major courses like baking, culinary arts, international cuisine, banquet and catering, housekeeping, food and beverage procedures, management, front office, events management, food sanitation procedures, food control system, hospitality planning and design, tourism, cruise line and etc. Some universities offer the program with such course specializations. But this university hasn’t yet offered course specialization in Hotel and Restaurant Management. According to the Department of Tourism, international arrivals in 1999 stood at 2.17 million, a slight increase from the previous year’s total of 2.15 million visitors. Despite the economic crisis suffered by its Asian markets, the Philippines’ foreign exchange receipts from tourism went up by 5.83% from $2.41 billion in 1998 to $2.55 billion in 1999. Moreover, the Philippines enjoyed the highest repeat visitors in Asia at 54.22 percent, indicating that the tourism sector can survive external threats and competition in the region. Therefore, as of now, tourism is one of the industries that help the people and the country in terms of finance. As tourism serves as the main market for hotel and restaurant services, increase in visitor traffic over the past ten years resulted in a corresponding boom in the hotel and restaurant......

The Level of Involvement in Smoking and Drinking Among High School Students in Cotabato

...enjoying freedom too much. A student may be influenced to be involved in any of the stated variables. High School is far different from being a college student. A person will have a new life when one goes to college. New environment which one has to adapt, new set of friends which one have to treat nice, and new subjects or topics that one has to study based on what course you will get. Although drinking, smoking, and drug-use for some usually result in adverse health consequences, there are some perceived benefits or advantages of these behaviors particularly from the point of view of the adolescents and youths. Adolescents may view drinking and smoking as privileges of adults and may want to engage in them to feel grown up and to present themselves as adults to others. Some of the reasons given are: the availability of cigarettes at home, parents being model of smoking and drinking behavior and consequently parents lack the credibility as advocates for non-smoking or non-drinking.(Aroyo 2001) Smoking and drinking are two of the most important risk factors explaining early mortality, accounting for an estimated 14 percent of deaths among youth worldwide. Most individuals try drinking alcohol for the first time in their early teens and most adult smokers begin smoking before age of 18. Many adolescents and youths are likely to adopt behaviors that are very common among adults sometime during their transition to full adulthood, even when they are aware of the......

...How Marketable is BSHRM Program among H.E. Strand Senior High School? Today’s competitive world offers a wide array of challenges not only to the graduating students and degree holders, but as well as to the educational institutions that offers various programs aimed at preparing their students for the job-seeking competition. At present, the country’s many ongoing educational reforms to include the enhanced basic education curriculum through the K – 12 will surely bring a positive paradigm shift in the needed learning competencies. This would require a major turn in the curricula and in the course offerings of higher educational institutions. With the demands of the changing times and in response to educational reforms, higher educational institutions like LCC-C should review and assess its program offerings. One of the courses offered by La Consolacion College Caloocan is Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management (BSHRM). To measure the relevance of this program, or any program offerings of any educational institutions, we need to analyze the interests of the future high school graduates.
