The Evolution of Sprint Wireless

... cameras, mp3 players and personal computers. Cell phones have served as a security tool for parents who want to keep an electronic eye on their children while still keeping their distance. They can be your GPS when you are lost in the middle of nowhere. They can be your best friend in an emergency or if you find yourself in any other tight spot. I once had a classmate who told me that he had a paper due in less than 45 minutes and he wrote and submitted it on his Blackberry. For these reasons and many more, the cell phone industry has exploded in the last quarter century and some of the major service providers have made profit hand over fist. This narrative is meant to give the reader an insight into Sprint; one of the top three service providers here in the U.S. The Sprint company began in the late 1800's as the Brown Telephone Company based out of Abilene, Kansas. Started by visionary Cleyson Brown, the Brown Telephone company was originally meant to challenge the local power, Bell Telephone Company. Bell, which owned all important patents related to the telephone, enjoyed a monopoly on local telephone service. But in small towns like Abilene, Bell service was expensive and often viewed by the public as big business. In addition, Bell's patents were about to expire, leaving the door open for entrepreneurs to create alternative services. (Robinsonlibrary.com, 2014) By 1899, Brown had announced the formation his own company carrying his namesake and in 1902 the Brown......

...Sprint Nextel, a service provider of mobile voice, data and web services over a nationwide wireless network. It also provides long-distance voice, internet and data over a landline based network. Their wireless segment also sells accessories, such as carrying cases, hands-free devices, batteries and battery chargers, as well as the handsets and accessories to use their service to agents and other third-party distributors for resale. Consumers use several of these products along with their service they provide to communicate through mobile (cell) phones, laptops, personal computers, video game consoles, televisions and DVD players loaded with apps, Global Positioning Systems, Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP), etc…, the list has far too many uses to name the all. Consumer demand is greatly affected by price, service availability and reliability and the technology offered in their products, both theirs and that of their competitors. Other factors are laws that restrict usage, regulations set by governing bodies such as the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and terms/lengths of contracts. Supply is affected by costs of materials, wages, production equipment and other input expenses, technology advances, taxes, regulations on uses both nationally and internationally and the availability of substitutes. Substitutes include other wireless service providers, landline service providers, letter mail, and meeting in person. Basically any other form of communicating without......

Sprint Resisted Training

...Sprint-Resisted Training Rashad Jefferies FIT 125-G2 Sprint-Resisted Training Training within sports is a vital part of becoming a world class athlete. Without the proper training, workouts, diet and willingness to put the time and work in, becoming a world class athlete is not likely to happen in your future. We have grown up in our lives and have had visions and dreams of becoming our favorite player. There were times when we as children would try to emulate popular sports figures Michael Jordan, Carl Lewis, Barry Sanders, the late Walter Payton and Wayne Gretzky. These sports figures that I mentioned have been named as greats in their perspective sport and they did not get there by just talent alone. As I was growing up playing football, I wanted to be just like Walter Payton. The moves that he would perform on the football field week in and week out were amazing to my eyes and wanted to be just like him. Walter Payton had the total package; he had the moves, the strength and the speed to make defenders miss or he was able to just run right through a defender or outrun anyone trying to chase him down. He was just pure poetry on the football field. I was a good sized young football player up until the age of 13 when I stopped growing. I had the strength, because of doing push-ups and lifting weights, while my moves were also great because I practiced them every week. The only problem that I had left was becoming a faster......

A Sprint on T the Wild Side

...English 201 A Sprint on the Wild Side “Trainspotting” is a movie that shows a glimpse of the lives of four young men in their late teens to early twenties, who are in various stages of heroin addiction. Two contrasting characters are Bixby, an older, extremely violent alcoholic who despises heroin, and Diane who at 15 mostly indulges in pot. Trainspotting takes place in the Scottish Edinburg of the early nineties. The movie is narrated by the main character Marc Renton, through whose perspective viewers witness life and death on heroin. “Trainspotting” (shot in 1996) is so popular that it is now known as a cult movie. Unique to this movie about the heroin drug culture is its fast pace, pointed criticism of society, and humorous absurdity. In spite of covering two tragic deaths, “Trainspotting” remains rooted in the subject of the friendships between its main characters, and the rapid deterioration of these friendships. The movie does depict drug addiction and its consequences in quite an ugly way; however, it uses equally ugly means to depict mainstream society. The excitement and adventure of Trainspotting far outshine the depiction of tragedy as a consequence of drug addiction. To the age group most at risk for drug addiction, Trainspotting glorifies drug use. As late as August of 2014 arts correspondent Hannah Furness quoted retired health official Sir Kenneth Calman: “Trainspotting was more powerful in the fight against......

Research Paper on Sprint

...with Sprint network Since the beginning of September I bought a new blackberry phone only to add more headaches to my busy scheduled life I have. I was happy with my old blackberry phone I had then I wanted a new phone since my seven month son finished beating up my old phone with his two new baby teeth. My problem with my new phone began when my husband tried to call me and my calls were going straight to my voice mail last week. I tried to call out with no luck. My blackberry said “service failed." I tried to use the text system and it was taking a long time or even the text system was failing to go through. All this added more headaches and frustrated only because I relied on my cell phone and never bothered to buy a house phone as a backup in case my cell phone ever failed me. I made a service call to Sprint twice last week and so far three times this week. I finally got ahold of a supervisor technical support person that helped me with my phone. It took about forty minutes to fix the problem. We had to change my IBM number to trick the system that is attached to the Sprint network. We trouble shot the phone twice. We did this to confuse the chip on my phone. The gentleman from Sprint was a great help with lots of knowledge regarding the problem I was having with my cell phone. He also mentioned that the area that I live around have a few dead spots that is another reason for my lost calls and failed calls. After we hung up, I looked up the problem up on the Sprint......

Sprint Performance Management

...Sprint Performance Management System Douglas Tennyson Excelsior College Abstract Every company needs to have a performance management system in place to build employees into what the company desires from them, to help them retain the best employees and to assist with active communication. Sprint seems to have a performance management system today that is much better than it was previously and this paper will explore the current performance management system and compare it to the old one and also make recommendations as to what Sprint can do to improve their current system. Sprint is a telecommunications company that specializes in mobile devices and mobile service. They currently hold fourth place in the mobile provider market being overtaken by T-mobile in 2015 according to a report on RCwireless.com with Verizon and AT&T maintaining a firm grip at the top of the market share. "The report found that "no major shifts in market share among the major four carriers" between now and 2020" (Kinney, S. (2015). One of Sprint's bigger problems was their employee turnover rate; they were losing employees faster than they were getting new ones. This would be a problem for any company, but especially for a company that is in the cutthroat business of cell phones and service. Trying to grow and take more of the market when you can't keep the trained employees created a problem for Sprint and they knew they needed to address this. "In July 2002, Towers Perrin released......

Case Study Two: Southwest Airlines & Sprint Telecommunications

...Case Study Two: Southwest Airlines & Sprint Telecommunications DeVry University: BUSN258 November 30, 2011   Southwest Airlines & Sprint Telecommunications There are many factors that contribute to the success of a company and customer service is one of the more important elements that determine this. A company’s customer service reputation is not built nor fixed overnight; yet it can be a company’s greatest attribute, or attribute greatly to its downfall. Southwest Airlines is known for its world class customer service; this is just the opposite of Sprint Telecommunications which is often noted for its lack of customer service. While exploring the customer service reputation of these two different companies we will discover the vital role and impact of customer service as pertains to the success of these companies. “Southwest Airlines Co. is a low-fare domestic airline that provides primarily short haul, high-frequency airline services. Southwest is one of the largest carriers in the U.S. based on number of domestic passengers. The firm operates 547 Boeing 737 planes, serving 72 cities in 37 states throughout the U.S. The firm operates over 3,100 flights daily (Plunkett 2011).” For those of us who are unfamiliar with Southwest Airlines customer service practices look no further than the company’s philosophy and mission statement. “The Southwest Airlines philosophy serves as the vision and mission for the organization. Certain quality management principles are......
