Two boats, the Prada (Italy) and the Oracle (USA), are competing for a spot in the upcoming America’s Cup race. They race over a part of the course several times. The sample times in minutes for the Prada were: 12.9, 12.5, 11.0, 13.3, 11.2, 11.4, 11.6, 12.3, 14.2, and 11.3. The sample times in minutes for the Oracle were: 14.1, 14.1, 14.2, 17.4, 15.8, 16.7, 16.1, 13.3, 13.4, 13.6, 10.8, and 19.0. For data analysis, the appropriate test is the t-Test: Two-Sample Assuming Unequal Variances. The next table shows the results of this independent t-test. At the .05 significance level, can we conclude that there is a difference in their mean times? Explain these results to a person who knows about the t test for a single sample but is unfamiliar with the t test for independent means.Since the p-value is less than 5% we reject the Hypothesis Test: Independent Groups (t-test, unequal variance) Prada Oracle 12.170 14.875 mean 1.056 2.208 std. dev. 10 12 n 16 df -2.7050 difference (Prada - Oracle) 0.7196 standard error of difference 0 hypothesized difference -3.76 t .0017 p-value (two-tailed) -4.2304 confidence interval 95.% lower -1.1796 confidence interval 95.% upper 1.5254 margin of error From the results, we are able to conclude that the difference in the mean times is -2.7050. This tableis the results from an independent t-test, showing the differences between Prada and Oracle. The independent sample t-test is used to compare the mean difference between two groups and in this case, the difference in mean times is -2.7050. If the value of the test statistic is beyond a critical value then there is less than a 5% chance we would obtain that outcome if the null hypothesis were correct, so in this case we reject the null…...

...Statistic- is a number computed from a sample of data. It is characteristic of a sample. A summary measure that is computed from a sample to describe a characteristic. (Numerical summary of the population) (Ex. The proportion of females randomly selected from the registered voters of a county or the average time it takes for the first 5 students to complete an exam) Parameter- A characteristic (numerical summary) of the entire population. A number computed from the entire population usually unobservable. Subject- the entities that we measure in a study. Population- the collection of all subjects under study. Proportion- of the observations that fall in a certain category is the frequency (count) of observations in that category divided by the total number of observations. Proportion and percentages (aka relative frequencies) Probability- the chance that an even will occur. Sample- a subset of the population. Random Samples are most valid. Design- Plan for how the data will be collected. Two events are dependent if the outcome or occurrence of the first affects the outcome or occurrence of the second so that the probability is changed. Sample Space- set of all possible outcomes for a random phenomenon Variables (COLUMNS)- characteristics or measurements on the subject. Event-subset of the sample space Description- summarizing the data that are obtained. Descriptive Statistics- methods for summarizing the data. Usually consists of bar graphs and...

...= 0 e) We know that there are 100 students taking stats this summer and that the average height of the students is 67 inches with a SD or 3.7. If we take a sample of 20 of these students, what is the probability that we get an average height less than 64 inches? Continuous Normal Distribution µ = 67 σ = 3.7 x = 64 n=20 n/N = 20/100 = 0.2 > 0.10, therefore we must use the FPCF Z-score = χ-μσn*N-nN-1 = 64-673.720*100-20100-1 = -4.0337 We look up -4.0337 in the Z-table and find a value of 0 P(X<64) = 0 g) University of Ottawa claims that 82% of students say they are happy with their current course load. If we were to sample 75 students, what is the probability that we would find over 66 of them are content with their current work load? Probability P p = 0.82, q = 0.18, x = 66 -75, n = 75, p_hat = 66/75 = 0.88 np = 61.5 > 10 nq = 13.5>10 Z-score = p_hat-pp*qn = 0.88-0.820.82*0.1875 = 1.3525 We look up 1.3525 in the Z-table and find a value of 0.9115 P(p>0.88) = 1 - 0.9115 = 0.0885 h) University of Ottawa claims that 95% of students think that the grading structure is too strict. ...good and it makes the audience feels more pressure by emphasize the flow of time. I think the acting of all the main actors and actresses are very impressive, especially the actor Morgan Freeman who plays the Acting President. He successfully presents the nervous, pain, and hesitation of his character. I think this movie talks about the meanings and relationships of peace, war, responsibility and courage using topics that are really hot around the world like terrorism and nuclear war. For the main character, Mike, when the attack begins, even though he is no longer a security agent of the White House, his responsibility makes him to fight against terrorists without any hesitation. And obviously, he doesn’t forget anything from his past work experience since he is the only one survived and stays in the House. One thing I feel especially touching is the friendship between Mike and the President’s family. He is much more than an employee to the President and that might be the reason why seeing Mike is very painful for him after that tragedy in which he lost his wife. Those scenes where Kang kills people in front of the screen make me feel how vulnerable our lives are. Lots of people and soldiers died in this attack in such simple and cruel way. Even though the reason Kang attacks the House is to stop the civil war between North and South Korea, he still does not have the right to kill all those innocent people. For me, he is just a poor person full of hate in his heart. There......
