Literature Review: Strategic Management

...Literature Review: Strategic Management BUSI 600 Business Research Methods Thomas Sheppard Liberty University October12, 2012 Abstract In order to have a successful study, a review of the literature will be undertaken. Then the methods and standards that were used will be addressed, and any questions that are being considered for further research into the area of strategic management will be discussed. From that point, it is vital that conclusions be drawn and recommendations be offered to wrap up the study. Without these components, it is often not clear whether a researcher has a thorough understanding of what the study was designed to do, and it is also not clear if said researcher is certain as to what else should be done in the area and should be questioned when it comes to that particular issue. In short, studies without these components lack completeness and that can make it difficult for anyone in the future to use the study as a jumping off point for similar studies or studies into related issues. The concept of strategic management is one that is highly important to organizations around the world (David, 2009). It involves taking a look at the top management of a company and the resources that management team is using on behalf of the company's owners and in order to show a specific level of performance. The mission, vision, and objectives of the organization must be examined, and it is necessary for them to...

Strategic Review

...As the new VP of Marketing at Clipboard Tablet Co., it is my duty to both analyze the results of the previous VP, and offer my own analysis on product performance for the X5, X6, and X7 tablets. Specifically, I will focus on the products themselves, their life cycles, and how they stack up in terms of price and performance. A financial review of each product will be undertaken as well, focusing on sales, costs, profitability, prices, and unit margins. I will then conduct a market review which will cover subjects ranging from new sales, previous sales, and market saturation. Finally, I will propose an alternate strategy, specifically in terms of pricing and R&D allocations. Initial observations indicate the previous VP of Marketing, Mr. Joe Schmoe, was satisfied with his opening assessment of the three products and was therefore content with keeping the project on autopilot. His satisfaction was ultimately unworthy and premature, as the CEO, Ms. Sally Smothers, does not believe these products are being developed and marketed to their fullest potential. There are a few key areas in which I can find fault with Mr. Schmoe. First, his inclination to disregard changing market forces. This is demonstrated by lack of motivation to make any changes whatsoever, despite making observations that each product performs differently. He is also negligent to make any adjustments based on future predictions and estimates. Areas in which he could have made an impact include R&D,......

Love

...Article Review The research article is based on an evolutionary approach to investigate on the topic of why men fall in love more than women. Men are more likely to falling in love if they over perceive sexual interest and physical attractiveness in women. Hence, women have become skeptical in a relationship. First hypothesis shows that men will usually fall in love with most recent partner, love more partners in their lifetime, experience more “love at first sight” and more unreturned love compared to females. The second hypothesis shows that individuals who over perceive others’ sexual interest will fall in love more frequently with chances to experience “love at first sight”. The third hypothesis states individuals who value physical attractiveness will have more partners, fall in love easily with latest attractive partner and more love at first sight experiences. The fourth hypothesis shows that individuals with a higher sexual desire will fall in love easily. The methods used were online questionnaire to both sexes with a sample size of 357. A qualitative research is used in a heterosexual community. Participants are 18-year-old and above. The dependent measures are the rating scale from 1 to 7. The specific measures used are timing of love, frequency of love, frequency of “love at first sight” and physical appearance of the latest partner. In hypothesis 1, the result shows that prediction on timing is not supported as there are no sexual differences......

Strategic Review

...Strategic Review Introduction I recently heard on the new that Mexico surpassed United States as the most obese nation in the world. Not exactly a good news since, we are still the second obese country in the world. According to CDC (2013), more than one-third of US adults are obese and suffer from “obesity-related conditions include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer, some of the leading causes of preventable death” (p.1). To tackle this issue of obesity, it is important to follow a healthy diet and exercise lifestyle. Unfortunately, this healthy diet food is under attack by use of GMO, pesticides, hormone additives, antibiotics, and other chemicals which are harmful to the body and cause other health problems. Zerbe (2010) reported that the President’s Cancer Panel is now urging people to eat foods grown without such harmful chemicals; organic foods. Due to such health concerns, organic food markets are slowly gaining popularity again as consumer demand is rising. This is great news not just for the consumers, but also the local organic farmer stands, e-commerce organic product sites and stores like the Whole Foods Market. In fact, this research will present the Whole Foods Market, Inc. strategic analysis. This analysis is being conducted to provide advice on how to integrate Whole Foods into ABC Company. It will cover the first step in the strategic planning process which is Whole Foods Market’s mission, vision and values;......

Module 1: Strategic Review - Slp

...Module 1: Strategic Review - SLP MBA Integrative Project BUS599 April 16, 2014 I am excited to be chosen the VP of marketing at Clipboard Tablet Co. We sell 3 different types of handheld tablets. The X5 tablet is targeted at the price conscious market whereas X6 is targeted at the performance oriented market. X7 is the newest product with focus on consumers that value both price and performance. Let us review the performance of each product category along with my proposed strategy and recommendations for the forthcoming years. Let me Start with X5: Indeed, X5 is aimed at price conscious consumers. The company has historically done quite well with this product in the last 5 years in terms of performance against the competition. The sales for this product peaked in 2013. However, the sales started declining after 2013 in the last couple of years due to saturation of the market. Joe kept the pricing of this product same throughout this period which turned out to be negative for the company as the organization needed a price cut in order to attract customers from other competing products. Since the product was competitive in terms of performance, Joe should have declined R&D investment on this product as consumers were more price conscious than performance conscious for this product. ("forio.com," 2015) Since this product competes in a highly saturated price conscious segment, my recommendation will be to reduce investment in R&D on this product as performance is not......

Fear, Love, and Sacrifice: Film Review of Donnie Darko

... Fear, Love, and Sacrifice: Film Review of Donnie Darko By Ruby Redmond Professor Heck English 1010-122 9 September 2013 Outline Thesis statement: Donnie Darko (2001) is an excellent must-see film because of the conflict between Donnie Darko (Jake Gyllenhall) and Frank the Bunny (James Duval) and the underlying theme of sacrifice. I. Conflict A. Donnie Darko B. Frank the Bunny II. Theme A. Sacrifice to save loved ones B. Sacrifice to change others Fear, Love, and Sacrifice: Film Review of Donnie Darko Weird, attention-grabbing, different, and back to the future explains Donnie Darko perfectly. It is all about sacrifice and caring for loved ones more than you care for yourself. The characters are definably cut out, and their attitudes are astonishing. I guarantee this movie will draw you in more than any other movie you have ever seen. Donnie Darko (2001) is an excellent must see film because of the conflict between Donnie Darko (Jake Gyllenhall) and Frank the Bunny (James Duval) and the underlying theme of sacrifice. In Donnie Darko there is this weird, but agreeable, conflict between Donnie Darko and a bunny only he can see in his head, Frank the Bunny. Since Frank tells Donnie to commit crimes some viewers may not agree with these “crimes” because, they may think that any crime is bad, even if they are good. However, these “crimes” help Donnie and others as well. In one incidence he burns down a house of a man who speaks on letting go of your problems and helping......

Love

...“The greatest feeling in the world is to love and to be loved.” People have different connotations in love. Some would say it is indefinable. But what is love? What is teenage love? How does love affects the behavior of teens? Love is an intense feeling of positive emotion toward, or enjoyment of, a person or thing, especially strong romantic or sexual feelings between people (Encarta Dictionaries, 2009). It is the feeling you feel when you like someone. This variety of uses and meanings combined with the intricacy of the feelings involved makes love remarkably difficult to consistently define, compared to other emotional states. Love is patient and kind and does not keep a record of your wrongs, never give up on you and never fails. Love is unconditional and everlasting. Love is the nourishment of my human soul. It is a process which evolved naturally, but with many obstacles. Those are some of the connotations of people when it comes to love. Love is always a positive feeling but oftentimes, it is abused, misused, and overused. Everyone falls in love especially teens. At their age, they tend to be more aggressive in loving someone. Friends from our childhood or adolescence are special, no matter how much time has elapsed between visits. These compelling connections are the result of shared roots during the formative years. Our childhood friends and teenage sweethearts experienced with us all the wonderful, horrible, boring, and embarrassing moments that......

A Critical Review of ‘the Fall and Rise of Strategic Planning’

...A Critical Review of ‘The Fall and Rise of Strategic Planning’ The arrival of strategic planning had attracted general attention because it implanted in managers’ minds a kind of imperative about the process that was rational and future-oriented (Mintzberg et al, 1998). Nevertheless, Whittington (2001:4) observed, “the plan is bound to get forgotten as circumstances change”. The purpose of this essay is to critically review ‘The Fall and Rise of Strategic Planning’. Firstly, the position of this article in the wider debate will be given followed by its theoretical underpinnings and its main strengths and weaknesses respectively. A conclusion will be drawn on the article’s contribution to the field of business strategy. The article’s position falls in between Whittington’s classical and processual approaches. On one hand, Mintzberg challenged the traditional classical planning and progressed towards the processual approach through identifying three fundamental fallacies. Firstly, classicalists held conventional wisdom that the world was sufficiently stable that today’s planning could forecast and fit market changes (Whittington, 2001). However, Mintzberg (1994:110) took the fresh view that the prediction of discontinuities was “virtually impossible” through questioning Ansoff’s “extraordinary statement”. Hogarth and Makridakis (1981) strengthened that longterm prediction was notoriously imprecise. If Wilbur Wight had anticipated the prevalence of airplanes......

Book Review Signs of Love Fraud

...The book I read, “Red Flags of Love Fraud” was written by Donna Andersen, published in 2012, and has 235 pages. Donna Andersen is merely a freelance author of two books and a creator of the website “Lovefraud.com.” She was wooed by a sociopath and married him. She catalogued all the information she discovered about sociopaths from her own experiences, and those of other people, and then wrote a guide to tell if you’re dating, married to, or interested in a sociopath. Love Lace Critical Review

...The Power of LACE Miriam Elia Powerhouse Museum ‘Love Lace’ 30 July 2011 – July 2013 Stereotypes are being challenged universally. The ‘Love Lace’ exhibition is a contemporary collection of artworks challenging the misconceptions of lace, exhibited in Sydney’s Powerhouse museum. Over 130 artists from 20 different countries have explored lace in a range of new and interesting ways and unanimously showing the significance of space in art. The exhibition as a whole engages in laces pre-perceived fragility, using it to ironically represent power and strength through the works and their meaning. This is seen through the layout of the exhibition, the campaign like advertisements, understanding the context and in particular three of the artworks; ‘Cheongsam’ by Elise Benjamin, ‘Secret Forest’ by Karen Richards and ‘Marriane’s Memories’ by Jane Thean. Walls of adverts before the exhibition walkway gives the audience a sense of the power created by the ‘Love Lace’ exhibition. The manipulation of clichéd lines, ‘Make Lace Not War’ and ‘Not Just A Thread’, engages the viewer and emits a feeling of purpose, as this is very campaign like. Contrast of red, white and black colours and the weight of the writing also give the exhibit an urgency and significance along with attracting the eyes to the bold adverts. This in itself is already challenging the popular belief of delicate lace. The horseshoe layout of the exhibition allows the audience to be directed......

However, there is also evidence that many of these implementations are not successful. This paper reviews the different performance measurement system design processes published in the literature and creates a framework for comparing alternative approaches. The paper then proceeds to review the literature on performance measurement system implementations and concludes that the performance measurement literature is at the stage of identifying difficulties and pitfalls to be avoided based on practitioner experience with few published research studies. This paper is the first of two, the second going on to consider performance measurement implementation from the point of view of the change management literature. Keywords: Performance measurement; management process implementation. Reference to this paper should be made as follows: Bourne, M., Neely, A., Mills, J. and Platts, K. (2003) ‘Implementing performance measurement systems: a literature review’, Int. J.......
