Strong Foundation
Our education system is failing. Students are only expected to memorize things, instead of participating in engaging conversation. Our youth are educated in a standardized way. We need to educate our students on how to learn. Not all students learn in the same way. It is important to build a student’s confidence and learning ability. Building these attributes will help lead the student to succeed in school and creating a solid foundation for their education. It is important to have a good education with the tools needed for success.
Relationships between the teacher and the student are one sided. Students accept information from the teachers as truthful, without question. Putting the students in a position that does not allow them to think creates a mindless machine. A relationship needs to be created between the teacher and the student. Not with teachers dictating what the students should be doing.
Teachers feed the students what information they think is necessary for their education. Their actions become predictable while they teach. They sometimes lose sight of the education process due to political beliefs or maybe they are close to retirement and stuck on autopilot. Teachers provide information to students that has nothing to do with reality to purposely deny them the chance of participation.
Educating students with the wrong or incorrect material is also problematic, not only for students, but a society. Loewen states that “They leave out anything that might reflect badly upon our national character” (386). The textbook does not provide all of the details about our nation’s history and the teachers are following it like it is a bible. Boredom is created with students and they don’t retain what is an attempt to teach them. Strong Tie

...Strong Tie Ltd. This case is about the decision to hire a consultant to provide an analysis of the company’s performance and to provide suggestions on future actions. Strong Tie Ltd., located in Winnipeg Manitoba, manufactured connectors to be used to reinforce wood joints. Bill Johnstone created this company to capitalize on the high demand for the housing market. After his death, the family owned business was passed on to his son, who ran the business along with his daughters. Strong Tie Ltd. made investments in automation, which affected their numbers from 2006 to 2008. As a result, they have higher margins and can sell their connectors at a lower price. From 2006 to 2008 there has been changes in the Income Statement and Balance Sheets of Strong Tie Ltd. There statement of cash flow shows that the outflow of money was greater what they actually had on hand. In earlier years, they had a higher net income and fewer expenses, which was in their favor. Strong Tie Ltd pursued the opportunity to increase competitiveness, by becoming an automated factory where they were able to reduce labor costs and speed up design. With these investments however, most of the ratios had an either slightly decreased or had no change. The liquidity ratios that were used in this case displayed that Strong Tie Ltd, had strong financial conditions throughout the three years. Foundations

...I choose to write my foundations paper on an organization that is based in my area that I live in, and although it is in my area it is not just a local organization but one that actually has the ability to span across the nation with support from local companies, as well as government agencies. The organization with which I am speaking is the Freestore Foodbank. I will go into the details of the non-profit organization in further detail in this paper. The Freestore began in 1971 by a man named Frank Gerson who worked in Cincinnati’s incinerator. He saw that there was too many household items that were being wasted when there were so many in his community that needed help. So this man quit his job, and started the non-profit business out of his apartment. By 1979 it had grown too big for his little apartment to handle, so he decided to get a warehouse to handle the sorting, and distribution of the food items for his community. Also at this time the Freestore became a founding member of Feeding America, which helped the organization evolve into the Freestore Foodbank. Today the Freestore is one of over 200 foodbanks within the Feeding America networks, which helps serve communities across the whole nation, not just in the Cincinnati area. They distribute over 19 million meals through a network of 275 community agencies. www.fsfb.org. There are three campuses, serving about 1000 students, increasing about 5% a year, but the board believes that number could be higher and has “adopted a new strategy that uses business development as the model to increase funding sources and revenue” (UOP, scenario, p. 1). They have outlined a three year program plan, with several new projects; however, they have developed some issues with formulating some aspects of the plan, because of the lack of strategic planning.
